53 is not a lot... at all. But then again something is better than nothing.

What movie is this from?

The down clock talk was about the eSRAM. No one knows the various clock rates and their internal history of going up or down. These two numbers (800 & 853) are the first ever acknowledge by MS.

The downclock rumors were never directly about the ESRAM. it was always more specifically about the GPU, and only indirectly related to ESRAM, since the ESRAM speed is supposed to be synced with the GPU clock speed. Presumably if you raise the GPU clock speed, you automatically raise the ESRAM speed, and if you lower the GPU clock speed, you lower the ESRAM speed. A lot of people thought that there would be a downclock to the GPU as a result of ESRAM yields causing problems. I said at the time, based on a first party dev source, that there was no such downclock, and the person I was speaking to, who should be in a position to know about such things, had heard absolutely nothing of the sort regarding a GPU downclock, which made me pretty confident that it wasn't going to happen, even though ESRAM problems were apparently real and something they had heard about.

Also, courtesy of Microsoft themselves, we've basically just been publically provided with the internal history of clock rates going up or down. They said that the clock speed of the GPU went up from 800MHZ to 853MHZ.

Lots of talk about a GPU down clock in that thread.

EDIT: God that thread is hilarious now.

The thread has been added to my favorites. :p Also won my ban bet.

Really impessed with how fast and well MS is turning things around. Took Sony close to 2 years after the PS3 blunder. Then again I'm also impressed that Sony was able to 1 up MS with tech and price this gen. We are going have one awesome generation.

Does anyone think this also talks to the yields that MS are expecting at the manufacturers?

To be fair there never was a downclock rumour, only speculation based on the rumours about bad yields.

No one on Gaf can point to any rumour or post from a supposed insider saying definitively that the GPU had been downclocked.

I think they can. There were 3 posts in this thread from insiders. (Well insiders that have been banned in the past for being wrong, so they are not CBoaT level.)

Well this is good for Xbox One owners!

:)

While I find it amusing that such a small boost is announced when they refuse to officially announce the specs...every .066 or 6.6% helps.

I think these Bish gifs are probably the best thing to come out of GAF.

I'm going through the Bish gif thread laughing my ass off.
On topic 53mhz is a weird number. I would assume 50mhz would have been a nice safe round number. I wonder if there is some reasoning behind 53mhz due to memory timings or something similar.

The ps2 was weaker than the GC and Xbox and it dominated that gen

But PS2 came after Dreamcast, though, & was stronger than it. And Dreamcast first officially came out on November 27, 1998 in Japan.

The Gamecube didn't first come out until September 14th, 2001 in Japan (PS2 first came out on March 4th, 2000 in that same region), while OG Xbox first didn't come out until November 15th, 2001 in the U.S.

How come no one is talking about Cboat's post in the Destiny thread?

What does it mean? Can someone translate it?

*laughs*

That's not even in CBOATalk.

It could be from World of Warcraft: When a player from the Horde, for example an Orc, says "lol" to an Alliance player, he only sees "kek", because they have different languages in the game.

"Kekeke" represents laughter/giggle in Korean.

It's from Starcraft, it's the Korean equivalent of "lololollolol".

Probably because this is not the Destiny thread?

haha I wasn't seriously asking for a translation. Just making a joke about how whenever he posts its usually in cboat speak and people start going nuts. :D

Most definitely can. Thuway was talking about it like a done deal at times. There were times when he said he hoped he was wrong, but it didn't sound very much like he thought his sources were wrong.

For everyone asking- this information is all pretty recent. Around the PlayStation Meeting the Xbox One was way behind (OS + hardware). Engineers were scrambling to get things sorted out.

It turns out, they didn't sort it out. The OS you saw was a complete and total lie. The current plan is to get the yields up, lower the clock rate, and to have enough units out for a sell out in the Fall.

For those asking how this affects performance- to be perfectly frank; it is nothing turning down features won't solve. The mass market will never notice a difference between 1080p and 900p; neither will they care about dynamic shadows / global illumination / or tesselation. Go to your PC - and turn shadows from Ultra to medium, disable tesselation, and lower the resolution to 900p; and you'll find games run totally fine.

Microsoft is purely behind and it's now time to make drastic decisions. I don't think any one is happy about the lower clocks, but no one is depressed about it either. The Xbox One is an all-in-on device; and that's how it will be marketed.

A 6.6% increase is not going to make a big difference, but the more interesting part for me is that MS is releasing a podcast to tell us about it. This is all part of the marketing and presentation and since Mattrick left it has been MUCH better. It's clear that they've identified their weak points and then thought about what information they needed to put out there to win people around. Personally I don't think they've made any big system or policy changes apart from scrapping the DRM, it's all been a question of presentation. But they're definitely managing to turn things around.

Major Nelson always releases a podcast on friday

So X1 GPU went from 1.2 something to 1.3 TFlop. Good. The higher the baseline moves up, the better it is for everyone.

Also, Half Life 3 coming to X1 confirmed.

Don't be naive, MS didn't disclose a history, just two numbers. As for esram vs GPU people just blur the line, the rumor was about esram yields and the down clock talk was in the context of those yields. There was plenty of talk of >1000 MHz GPU clock from wannabe insiders at B3d, so I guess this puts a death nail in that secret sauce talk.

To be honest, whether true or not, this seems like shameless pandering to the hardcore.

It may or may not work in convincing fanboys but it certainly isnt going sway preorder numbers. The whole thing seems quite bizarre tbh.

So... if PS4 and One were poker players... PS4 showed a poker, and one showed an As... and we are still waiting to see if they have another poker, if they are waiting to show a straight flush... or they are just trying to hide their bluff waiting for the release date.

This post is full of anger hahaha, did he ruin your day or something.

Let me check my ball of wonders... Yes Yes... LeeFowler definitely came from Gamespot's System War Forums. How do I know? Ask me later.

Hahaha whoa whoa whoa. I was just poking fun at the people pointing out that CBOAT only leaked negative news, which seems to be true seeing as he knew about this upclock but didn't deign to share.
