Media Create Sales: Week 31, 2013 (Jul 29 - Aug 04)

How long can Grasshopper survive all these flops? It likely will bomb in the west as well. Hope they don't shut down soon, but KiD could not have been that cheap.

09./08. [3DS] Fantasy Life: Link! <RPG> (Level 5) {2013.07.25} (¥4.980) - 13.868 / 32.814 <40-60%> (-27%)

[3DS] Fantasy Life <RPG> (Level 5) {2012.12.27} (¥5.800) - 134.008 / 281.943

Fantasy Life: Link! is doing well for a re-release despite its still low sell-through.

Thank the good graces of GungHo Online Entertainment.

All it takes is a restructuring / streamlining and Grasshopper will be no more.

What "victory"? I do believe this discussion started around the claim that the Vita was a good platform for thrid-party releases, and in that context I'm making an observation that I don't think publishers are served by mindlessly looking at how big established IPs sell unless they've got something of equal stature. For new IPs and less established franchises, the Vita seems to be holding its own.

In your mind you have decided only big and established franchises sell on 3DS, I'm pretty sure you haven't looked at numbers for both platforms.

Makes me feel bad for Xseed. It seemed like quite a big deal for them to get that sort of publishing deal before the game even came out and now it seems like this game might bomb even by Suda/Grasshopper-standards.

Nintendo... I suggest you stop leaving luck to heaven and start working harder to create good fortune for the Wii U.

Severe drop for Dragons Crown :/

Yep, laughed at someone saying it'd sell 20k, eating crow pff.

Like metalslimer said, it's pretty much sold out everywhere. Looking around seems to be affecting both PS3 and Vita versions.

Pikmin is holding up nicely. Perhaps we might even see another shipment. Lego is a nice surprise too and gives me hope for a nice w101 opening.

Killer is already dead was a let down. Never thought this would happen and i dont think this means good business for grasshopper. Marvelous already ditched them after nmh, kadokawa had a good sucess with lollipop, but after that, i dont see them being eager to work again with grasshopper. A shame, cause i love those games. At least i know Suda will always find someone to blackm... I mean, fund his games

I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was considerably cheaper than Lollipop Chainsaw, due to the lack of Hollywood talent and (as far as I know) no music licensing.

I think the rating of the game hurt it the most; unlike Lollipop Chainsaw, this didn't have a CERO-D version at all, so it was stuck with a far more restricted CERO-Z rating, which made it more difficult for people to get their hands on it. Not that Suda games need more issues trying to sell, but that seems like a curious decision after Lollipop became a decent hit.

Well tbh, did Grasshoper ever get a true hit (or even niche hit) in Japan this gen?

NMH bombed pretty badly if I recall correctly, so did NMH2. The HD re-release didn't do that well except for that special edition that came later somehow.

SoTD bombed everywhere.

Lollipop Chainsaw didn't set any records, I think it's their only sorta successful game.

Wii U staying over 10k for this long was impressive. Pikmin's initial sales were almost exactly what I expected but it's affect on the baseline is much better than I thought it'd be.

That was last Grasshoper game signed before GungHo bought them - so they already have someone for next game.

For some strange reason it seems that retailers ordered more Pikmin 3 units in its second and third week after launch.

1st week
Pikmin 3 - 102.188 / NEW (53%) 193.000 units shipped

2nd week
Pikmin 3 - 30.997 / 133.185 (65%) 205.000 units shipped (+ 12.000 units)

3rd week
Pikmin 3 - 15.902 / 149.087 (70%) 213.000 units shipped (+ 8.000 units)

I know of the Disney game because I saw commercials for it everywhere. I think even on the screens on the trains and metro they had commercials. If I was an Animal Crossing fan (and treated Disney like a religion like most in Japan seem to do), I would've picked it up.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Healthily over 200k for a Vanillaware game feels like I'm dreaming (download stats where are you...).

Meanwhile, WiiU is a nightmare I'm sure Iwata wishes he could wake up from.

Grasshopper isn't dreaming at all. Just dead.

Disney Magic... how does the title open above 100K while Mind 0 is below 20K?

Disney for Japanese, is like Studio Ghibli for westerner. There is reasons why Ni No Kuni is bombed in Japan but doing hotcakes overseas. While Mind 0 is......

Good 'ol VITA. Up about ~49% YOY

I guess Disney is very popular in Japan. No wonder Kingdom Hearts series got such success there.

Also people talking about steep drop of Dragon's Crown should keep in mind that it is hard to find in shops and besides according to Atlus, it has already shipped/sold 300k copies for both platforms including Digital figures, which is a big success for them.

Can anyone post the Grasshopper launch week sales?

I don't pop my head in these often, but has anyone made a chart of how severely the market has shrunk in Japan these last couple of years?

Looking at a MC thread in 2004 - 2009 for roughly comparable weeks paints a picture of no hardware really striking fire, and just one doing okay (3DS) while 4 others bomb.

Nothing to make up for the DS, PSP, Wii, PS2, or GBA

I don't really understand what this Disney game is and where it's coming from. Something's odd about a game based on a western property being exclusively released in Japan and selling so decently. Feels like this should have been a worldwide release.

16./09. [WIU] LEGO City Undercover <ADV> (Nintendo) {2013.07.25} (¥5.985) - 7.691 / 25.768 <60-80%> (-57%)

Let's say 40k LTD for LEGO, pretty good actually.

Gives me hope for W101 (mind you, another weekend release, just like Pikmin 3).

2 others*

PSP and PS3 shouldn't be lumped with the Vita and the Wii U given the former 2 consoles are at the end of their cycle.

I also don't see it coming but considering how go to Disneyland Tokyo is pretty much every little girls dream, that number make sense. But I don't think this Disney Castle would make a similar impact on other part of the world.
