Yeah, that's a bad number for One Piece but I think the original game was badly received and there's a more promising OP game announced for 3DS this year.

Wasn't Unlimited Cruise SP a port of Wii games that did less than 130k?
This is like the lowest debut for the franchise in forever.

Apparently the game was shit (like more shit than Unlimited Cruise) and it released much closer to the original PSP game than SP did to Unlimited Cruise. And there's Unlimited World R coming later this year, which looks much more promising and isn't a port.

Unlimited Cruise SP was the first time these games were on a portable system and also much better value as it was two games for the price of one.

Not saying the sales are great or even within expectations but it's a stretch to call them "terrible" and nobody should be surprised at the sales for a game that seemingly got bad word of mouth.

Unlimited World Red will be the true "test".

i'm a little surprised at how well pikmin 3 bumped the wii u's floor. i thought it would be under 10k in mc two weeks ago. w101 is going to be less of a success, but as we saw with the vita, to raise the floor what you need is a stream of games, even if there aren't a bunch of surefire hits.

LOL Yakuza tanked harder than I even imagined. Guess that's that for any mainline Yakuza titles for the wiiu in the future. I wonder if they will port them to the XBone to expand the western audience tho

don't expect any more yakuza games in the west. if they had considered expanding into the xbox audience in the west, they would have started with yakuza 3.

Who says the floor has been bumped? Also nslu, the new deluxe, and lego city all contributed

Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Super Deluxe Edition is showing an impressive performance, it still maintains a weekly average of 5.000 units sold.

Over 50.000 units in the last 10 weeks, now I can say that it will catch Taiko no Tatsujin Wii (657.666). The only thing that could put this in danger is the announcement of a new Taiko no Tatsujin game for this year.

I think Vita is saved in Japan.

Saved mean a viable platform for niche titles and a few major titles.

Vita is on the path of being saved in Japan.

But it may not get saved because with those pitiful numbers outside of Japan, Sony will have to pull the plug sooner rather than later if things don't improve. They can't justify shipping/making 100k a month worldwide for much longer.

Sales this week are in nano and microunits.

697,427 Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds (SCE) {2007-07-26} (Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds / Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds [PlayStation 3 the Best] / Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds [PlayStation 3 the Best 2nd Print])

Wow HSG sells so much? And here i thought it sells like 200k max or something.

I mean, it sells more than the WiiU. I don't think either platform is going anywhere.

the last floor was what, 4.5k? 9-10k might not be the new floor, but it's probably not sub-5k either.

Wii U recent sales history, 2013:

---Game and Wario released
---Dragon Quest X released
Week 13 - 21,502
Week 14 - 14,413
Week 15 - 10,147
Week 16 - 8,047
Week 17 - 8,058
---Golden Week
Week 18 - 10,573
Week 19 - 6,744
Week 20 - 6,058
Week 21 - 5,536
Week 22 - 5,669
Week 23 - 4,549
Week 24 - 5,031
Week 25 - 4,236
Week 26 - 5,846
Week 27 - 6,380
---Pikmin 3 released
Week 28 - 20,728
Week 29 - 14,024
Week 30 - 10,937
Week 31 - 9,432
Week 32 - 9,291

Take note of the two hardware sales bumps:

Code:
---Game and Wario released	---Pikmin 3 released
---Dragon Quest X released
Week 13 - 21,502 Week 28 - 20,728
Week 14 - 14,413 Week 29 - 14,024
Week 15 - 10,147 Week 30 - 10,937
[B]Week 16 - 8,047 Week 31 - 9,432
Week 17 - 8,058 Week 32 - 9,291[/B]

While Pikmin 3 produced an identical bump to Dragon Quest X initially, its long-term effect on Wii U hardware sales seems to be slightly more pronounced (1K - 1.5K). That is, if it had an identical effect and Wii U was trending back towards <6K, it should have been at 8K by now.

Stretching that trend through the long-term, I believe we'll see Wii U bottom out at ~7K until further releases come out for the system.

I think people are overlooking the possible effect of the school vacations in Japan that start in August. If someone cares enough they can check sales trend in the July -> August transition. =P

A 1K difference changes fuck all. It's looking like the exact same pattern right now.

Yes, a more expensive disc version of a DLC that came out a month ago, a new color, and a Lego game that fell out of the top 30 after a week all contributed
Dont know if youre jokibg, but it was released 3 weeks ago and it still not out of the top 30.

I agree with metalslimer on this one. Wiiu is stabilizing a little due to pikmin but also due to lego and luigy (to a minor degree). I think if there was obly pikmin, wiiu would fell faster. Lego was a minor sucess after all.

it's less about getting 1k more on average and more about the concept that the wii u is slowly becoming a more attractive console in general, through software.

170K in five weeks for Pikmin vs:

60K in five weeks for NSLU
30K in three weeks for LEGO

Even when you compare Pikmin to NSLU + LEGO combined, it's clear that Pikmin is by far the most attractive addition to the Wii U lineup. Personally, I don't think that NSLU / LEGO contributed much at all to Wii U console adoption.

The kind of people who would buy a Wii U for 2D Mario DLC already did so with the full-fledged NSMB:U, and 30K for LEGO (18K debut) isn't exactly the kind of numbers that would push any real amount of hardware.

What a waste of money and effort with Yakuza HD. Sega could have use the money instead to localize Yakuza 5 and sold more copies, even if it just sold 20K or so copies in NPD, it will still more than what Yakuza HD will ever sell.

I don't think thats going to happen considering how important the handheld market is in Japan.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

I didn't even think of this angle, and now you've massively depressed me :(

Vita is too far gone in the west to turn it around, so i do wonder whether Sony will keep a sustained effort with vita literally only alive in one territory and even there its niche. I'm not saying they discontinue it, but i wonder how much they will try after this year

Edit: When you are talking about the difference between 9k and 6k i do think every little small thing helps. Obviously pikmin 3 was the biggest pusher, but even at 7k that would be a big difference as low as wiiu is selling. Also is it really that surprising that a 500k series pushed wiiu up 4-5k a week when even Persona 4 golden did that for vita last year.

I didn't even think of this angle, and now you've massively depressed me :(

The cost of the port was likely not close to localization costs. They probably had a couple of guys on this vs translation, distribution, and changes to the game if they took the yakuza 3 route.

You're talking about a difference of 2k between those 5 weeks...hardly an improvement and I would be curious to see what happens next week

I don't think any Yakuza fans would think ill of Sega going a digital only release route with Yakuza 5 at this point, so thats distribution out the way. Maybe Sega's got some quick plop-n-drop PS3 to WiiU pipeline, but with companies like XSEED and so forth drawing profit from their tiny runs, budgets gotta be comparable, especially when they would have had to run the WiiU version through QA just the same.

Well the Wii U and Pikmin 3 didn't fall as much as I thought, which I hope is a good sign looking forward. In general though, the Japanese market doesn't look that great apart from the 3DS. Monster Hunter & Pokemon should make that fun though.

Thanks for the Wii U game sales Aquamarine! Nice to see that Luigi U (retail version of all things) and Lego City are actually still in the top 30.
