Media Create Sales: Week 32, 2013 (Aug 05 - Aug 11)

Chances are it doesn't even sell that first shipment in the first week. Retailers are smart to stop overstocking wiiu games when they inevitably underperform. I'll say 20k first week, hopefully it can struggle past 60k. I guess this will be Nintendo's 2nd nomination in the bomba of the year award with game and wario.

Game and Wario:

1st Month LTD (2 reporting weeks), Japan: 36,806
2nd Month LTD (6 reporting weeks), Japan: 53,751

1st Month LTD (2 reporting weeks), USA: 12,000
2nd Month LTD (6 reporting weeks), USA: 19,300

I really, really hope TW101 doesn't follow G&W's trend in the USA...

...because a <30K shipment in Japan and an inferior sell-through in the USA would be downright horrible.

:-(

If this is true, thats bad. It's almost the same shipment as Lego... But i believe it will sell all of it. If Lego is already past 30k, i can't possibly imagine seeing W101 behind it.

We'll know soon enough if there are stock shortages, so that a quick restock could be predictable, and a little bit of hope to lose less money. No reports yet of great advertising, so I suppose we won't hear about any outright consumer panic due to the small shipment.

At least Nintendo is giving it a fighting chance in NA by releasing it promptly there - before the WiiU has to fight new systems for retail space. Can't see it playing out like Aquamarine's mentioned Game & Wario scenario.

There's ads. I don't know if they are airing a lot and, in my opinion, they're not good at making the game feel like a must have, but there's ads at least.

And the demo, which is a first for a Nintendo published game on Japan. So far, that's that for the advertising.

The marketing for W101 started well before than for Lego in the same time period and the game feels much more like a japan game than Lego, so i fully believe that W101 will sell more, but if that ends to be the shipment, at least i expect a high sellthrough,

I dont understand why The Wonderful 101 isnt more popular. 30k shipment, and after the Nintendo Direct, it was pointed out that the Amazon ranking went from like #330 to #40. Now its down to #191, less than a week from launch.

Everyone cancelled their preorders because of demo usage limits.
Hehe. Well, i know that the Amazon rankings doesnt mean much, but i get the feeling that it doesnt seem to be much buzz around the game. Especially looking at that 30k first shipment (if its accurate). It looks fun to play i think, so i dont understand why the game isnt more popular.

Not a Nintendo franchise game on a Nintendo home console.

Platinum should've made everyone wear Nintendo costumes.

Or even just made the The Smashing 101 where it's the same game but with established Nintendo characters instead (Mario is the fist, Link the sword, Samus the whip, Fox the gun, etc).

Not that I would have preferred that, but maybe it would perform better LOL

It's a given it would have.

W101 is a brand new IP with none of Nintendo's legacy behind it whether it involves staple characters or its made by Nintendo themselves.

I seriously believe this would not be such a bomb, If Platinum just plain out slapped Nintendo related stuff everywhere.

Silly Mario hat has more marketing power than 30 hours long super hyper detailed direct, especially to die hard Nintendo fans.

Well, i guess Mario, being a bigger game, has more selling power than W101, i find it funny that now the discussion is not even about "only nintendo games do well on nintendo systems" and more like "only specific franchises from nintendo do well".

Anyway, nintendo is the one that needs to ve worried about it, not platinum. At least with that small of a shipment, they must know that the problem is not with the game, but with the platform. Although i still believe it can be a moderate sucess and end selling better than wario...

Given that Nagoshi said they were done with PS3 Yakuza titles, I will go out on a limb and say this is our first Japanese market focused PS4 game.

We'll find out for sure in this week's Famitsu.

Could still be Vita I suppose?

Are Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III not considered Japanese-market focused - I guess they are globally targeted, but iirc FF still does something like a third of its sales in Japan alone.

Oh wow, poor W101. I hope it makes it somehow. The game deserves it.
I don't even have a Wii U but if I had the extra dosh, I'd go buy a copy of W101

They said that a year ago. Nothing has happened yet. What's holding them up?

also, looking for that particular quote, I found this:

:lol

Actually, I don't think Falcom say so. IIRC, some random 2ch post said Falcom felt their PSP games sales is declining so they are bringing LoH series to new platform ala 3ds next quarter.
The poster claimed FALCOM annunced it in their quarterly report, however no one see the actual report..

I feel strange people keep posting and believing that rumour while no one can giver a source link..

101k sales might be pushing it at this rate with 30k shipped.
Hope it does better than it looks to be tracking

Hopefully conception and super robot can sell well to keep the vita at the 17k+ mark for a while longer.

They are worldwide sellers but XV will sell more than a million in Japan and KH has a chance at it.

Yakuza U launched last week? Dead Souls indeed.

And now everyone acts surprised about the Yakuza HD bomba - still don't get what Iwata was thinking but talking so much about the title in the Sega Direct...lol.

And Sega are thinking of bringing a translated version of the compilation over to the Wii U here in the U.S. when they could've easily done that for PS3 in the U.S. with a bigger install base?

Wow. I honestly don't know what they were smoking with that decision.

I mean that in the sense that this game would not exist if not for the Japanese market.

Does hoping that recent major Wii U bombas makes Nintendo bury the Nintendo Directs for game advertising make me a bad person?

The ND are a good idea for giving people updates about what's going on at Nintendo but I've never understood why they thought it was a good idea to use them to hype new games. The whole point of VG marketing is supposed to be to raise awareness of your games to people who don't eat/drink/sleep videogames everyday which I would imagine are the main audience of NDs.

Why did they think game marketing was something that needed to be reinvented?
It's still better than the no marketing tactic they took before with titles like this.
Not by much apparently :/

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Platinum possibly making a Japan exclusive Xbox One title (as per CBOAT) is just... christ. Even as a fan I can't seemingly follow the company any more and get their games on launch. Theyre going to be a casualty of these "safe money" developments that also associate their name closer and closer to ULTRA BOMBAS.

Sigh.

CBOAT is a train I'm always willing to ride but what possible reason would MS have for keeping a Platinum game exclusive to Japan? Keeping it XBone exclusive I can understand but what would either partner have to gain from holding a game hostage in a single region?

They still get money no matter what. It doesn't matter if the sell like W101 seems to be or if they do like Rising. As long as there are still publishers that are willing to give them money to make games then they'll be fine.
