Doubt it's going to have the depth that the Kinect will have, but it's nice of them to offer the option.

nice camera, but it seems like a waste with no move support.

edit: i mean the games yall. no move support in killzone, infamous, bf4, anything, except in an mm demo. not even in cod? the bo2 wiimote gameplay makes me jealous.

Wonder to what extent it will have it. Obviously not to Kinect's level since they aren't really talking about it all. I'm interested it hearing more.

I wonder how many of this will sell. I mean Kinect is already a big reason why people don't mind getting the Xbox One.

Takes time = developers are happy if they get their game out on launch day.
So maybe it will be patched later on, or the second wave of PS4 games will have it (when the developers have more time)

quaint, it just reminds me of the comment in the "Xbox One only five countries get full Kinect voice experience' topic where the one Xbox fanboy said

"That's five more countries than Sony will ever have voice recognition in. Ever."

Oops for him I guess :p

I guess this is nice for people who want it, but I'll still be avoided the PS Camera like a plague :p

UNLESS they release something like Project Spark where you can make your own games and have homebrew motion capture. THEN i'd get it for that alone

As with Kinect, why do we have to have a camera to use voice commands? Why not just a regular mic?

It's designed to appeal to people who aren't putting on a headset, aka the casual crowd. Also designed to be convenient, since if you're going to the trouble to grab and put on a headset, you might as well just use the controller.

My guesses, anyway.

Haha, jeeze.

Awesome, hope it's as functional as the Xbox. I really hope I can say "Playstation, On! Playstation, Killzone! Playstation, play Super Saiyan 3 music! Playstation, record! Playstation, Skype ____ (assuming Skype is available for the Playstation 4, don't see why it wouldn't be though.)

Only problem is it's not included in the box, I personally don't want to go out of my way to buy the camera for these features. I might though, if it works as good as I'm hoping it does.

EDIT: Wait the camera is only $59 no? Wow, pretty good deal, hehe, it's kind of funny how Sony is offering exactly what Microsoft is offering with Kinect 2, but without the $100 mark up. Assuming voice navigation works as well as presumed.

That's nice. I still have no desire to talk to my electronics.

Have you ever thought about their feelings? What if your electronics want to talk to you? You're so selfish Chamber :(

What? Sony's pre-existing support for cameras and motion control since the PS2 era? How's that again?

Shhh Kinect is very innovative Sony is a copycat (I hate this argument anyway: if you like something, isn't it good when someone else emulates that thing you like?)

I'm dying to see an in-depth UI demo and how PS4 eye integration works. Some footage of the sharing and streaming features would be awesome too. Oh and a clear explaination of remote play. That GC demo of Black Flag was done real suspiciously. Come on Sony!

Yah both PS4 buyers and Xbone buyers (gasp) are waiting on in-depth UI demos.

Expect those in-depth videos to be shown way down the line. No one wants to do an in-depth UI video until it's 100% ready.

Hardly - unless you're referring to the PS Eye. Optional as opposed to a forced pack-in, that's the way to go.

Hopefully this camera will do better than the Eye did despite it too being optional (not that the Eye did horribly; it obviously didn't create a surge of games or functionality, though). I feel like it will since its a launch day product, although its always hard to tell with optional peripherals.

Saw this coming a mile away. Sony be ticking boxes. As they should because they're more of a company and not so much a YouTube commenting fanboy. I'm picking up a camera at launch anyway so I'm excited to check this out. I love "gimmicks"!!

I see, Sony has had voice system navigation since the ps2? I know Socom had some voice commands but never knew Sony had invested heavily in navigational voice commands for the PS2. All that time I had my PS2 and PS Eye I could have been guiding my experience with my voice and didn't know it....

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I think of it like this.

Sony made a good decision on not packing the camera in the box and obviously not making it mandatory. They put themselves in the position that IF Kinect 2 really sits well with the market and becomes a hit they can easily add Kinect like features and people into those features can go out and pick up a camera.

They also left breathing room in the OS with a couple of gigs of ram in the tank to develop a richer feature set if the market reacts well to Kinect. Personally I don't think it will ever be something I'm enamored with but it's great to be able to have the OPTION.

hey guys wouldn't it be funny if PS4 Camera has these navigational voice commands available in most of the countries they're launching in when it's not even packed in and it's totally optional

boy that would sure be funny

I'm not as sold on it as you bud, I just have the vanilla SKU pre-ordered.

Since it's not a pack-in, it will probably have basic functionality at launch and fleshed out later with updates.

True.

Also, the Xbone having Kinect at all times may encourage developers to use it's functions more. If they do that, then Sony may be encouraged to develop the eye more, as developers will not need to do much more work to use its functions as well.
