Haha there was a quest I was having difficulty with, due to mobs that were a couple levels higher than me guarding the area. A fate popped up and everyone else killed them all, so I was able to walk right in and get my shit done. Love it!

So what to we know about Time Cards? When will they be available? I'm sure plenty of others would rather not put their credit card info up, I always prefer using time cards.

I've said this before, but... I'd love to read a massive, 20 page article on the making of FFXIV 1.0.
What went wrong, why decisions were made, etc... one of those huge, in-depth expositions.
Of course, since it's SE, I'm sure it would take a massive amount of work and sleuthing.

Any journalists reading - making it happen!!

Pretty sure the people who made 1.0 are out of a job. I can sum it all up for you right now...

The team who made 1.0 only played FFXI and lived in a vacuum while completely ignoring the advancements of the genre.

Still doesn't explain that UI though... goddamn.

I just found out that pressing scroll lock completely removes the UI. Been taking a lot of screenshots on Steam since this revelation, game is pretty.

yea but I have recently found alt tabbing after taking screens causing the game to crash for me. I have been booted twice today because of that :/

And I thought I got off playing MMOs. (although I was playing 1.0 on and off) -sigh- I'm almost kinda glad it's pretty hard to log in evening time, otherwise I would have been playing right now.

The game is so visually pleasing, that I run around looking at places.

... this hardly explains why people seemed to hate it compared to FFXI...

Getting dreaded 1017. Sucks, I played for like 4 hours, then my game crashed. Now I can't get into my server, been trying for 2 hours.

Is there a site that shows what the population is for each server? Or can you see in game? I'm wondering if my server is really popular. Although I guess this is a problem with most servers right now?

1.0 was missing so many great things that FF11 had, so that's definitely not it at all.

So my computer is shutting off every time after a little bit of time in the Inns and Titan's Navel. It happened today on Titan Hard. My Machine isn't overheating though, are there drivers I could use to fix this?

So I was hoping someone could help me with frame-rate issues in A Realm Reborn.

My specs:

Q6600 @ 3.0GHZ
4GB DDR2 RAM
MSI Geforce 660GTX OC [2GB]

I run the game at 1680x1050 [since that's the highest resolution that my monitor will run at] at Maximum and I get 10FPS in town, or when I'm nearing one. It might have to do with so many people idling in the Sanctuaries, but I'm not sure. I know my CPU isn't the best, but I have to make do for now since there aren't any better upgrade options for me now with my current motherboard and I'm really not interested in upgrading my entire system just yet.

I tried lowering to High and it makes little to no difference, so I don't think it's my GPU that's holding me back. I've heard of people running at similar setting with no issue, so I'm a little perplexed. Before anyone asks, yes I did a clean install of the GPU drivers.

If anyone has any insight on getting it to run better, I would be greatly appreciative.

Something doesn't want me to play.
Got 9000'd just running around Coerthas, get in a queue internet went out,
finally get internet back and my 60' tv no longer has picture....

With a 6600 GTX I would say it IS your GPU. But it could be your CPU too. It's probably both.

Oh really? I had no idea that the game was so GPU dependent. Thanks for the information!

I guess I'll suffer through if for now until I can manage to build myself an entirely new rig in the coming months. It's not bad at all in the fields, as well as dungeons, only heavily-crowded cities/Fate events. At least it doesn't prevent me from enjoying the game when I'm out questing, and is mostly an inconvenience when I have to go to town.

At least I don't have to bother tweaking the settings or anything to improve things, I doubt it will help much.

Someone get off Sargatanus. I wanna play, damnit.

I would be neat if SE provided stats on how many people log in and then go afk for hours.

Maximum? With a 6600? wut? Try standard desktop and leave it lol

I cannot!

I must bask in the glory of shadows and well-defined grass. If I must sacrifice a few frames to do so, that is a cost I will most happily pay!

Alright, if you want to play Final Fantasy XIV: A Powerpoint Slide, go ahead.

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF LOGGING INTO THE SERVER ON PC.

WHAT THIS WILL FIX
Error 1017
Q Problem (It will bypass the Q system)
REMEMBER EVERY SINGLE TIME you USE the program, you have to go back into it and reset the NUM 0 (Meaning open it up, click Num 1 then Num 0 again, it will reset it).

Summary: Is this a 100% success rate?, No but it's about 95%, I have gotten in basically every single time within 15/30 min. Be patient.
If you see OTHER errors then 1017, this will NOT fix the problem.

PS - A ton of people on mumble are doing this trick now, And it's gaining huge steam, it's working extremely well, if you have ANY questions. LET ME KNOW.

Hey thanks for this option. I have a few questions though

1) How does this bypass the queue system? If thats what you mean by "Q"

2) If not, doesn't the keystroke cancel your line in wait for queue?

I ask this because after 45 minutes, I haven't been able to get in. I noticed it just repeat strokes, which very well may cancel the queue up. Thanks.

I'm well into the game [Level 21] and it hasn't been a "powerpoint slide" to me at all. When I'm in-battle and going through the fields, it's perfectly enjoyable [runs at around 30FPS].

Towns are the only areas where I suffer. :(

The game easily crushed my machine down to 20 fps during Coerthas fates. I can't imagine what a 6600 will be like when you get to that point. 1-4 FPS might be a reasonable guess.

We didn't have 2gb vram back in the 6000s days. I'd say its your cpu bottlenecking the game, a 660gtx should be fine as long as your turn off AO and other intensive options. If you oc to 3.8ghz with a proper heatsink you should be fine. Check your cpu usage first using proc explorer and your gpu usage using ati afterburner. If your gpu usage is low and cpu is maxing out the cpu is the bottleneck.

Well I look forward to that. :(

Well, not so much "look forward" as fear. If I have to decrease the game quality later on, I will, but only when it starts to impact me outside of towns.

Thanks for the advice. I shall do as you say.

I kind of figured the Q6600 would be giving me trouble, but I didn't want to jump into upgrading everything just yet. I probably will sometime early next year, though. At the very least, I should be able to use my 660GTX in the new machine, so the video card won't be entirely wasted. Although, at that time, I might have to look into getting a 760, and just gifting/selling my old GPU to a friend.

Zerokku

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Can anyone explain why race stats doesn't make much of a difference? 17 to 23 seems pretty big to me.

Because at end-game your main stat for a class is likely going to be 400+ so just a couple of points is not going to make or break you in any role. And it will only get bigger with more content/expansions, and that small amount will make an even smaller difference then.

Yoooooooo square. hire more customer support and fix peoples accounts who accidentally added their retail code to a NEW service account. It's been 5-6 days already and can't play the game :(
Should've called to escalate the ticket last week bro. Got my shit fixed on Wednesday.

Ive set mine to windowed mode and works just fine. You should do the same if possible.

Your gpu is fine unless you're demanding 60+ fps in Battlefield or Crysis. Getting a 3570k, mobo, heatsink and 8gb ram should set you back around 400 dollars, assuming your psu is fine. Ocing to ~4.4 GHz on that will give you a big improvement over what you have currently.

It seems to be getting worse so I'm doubting any fixes being any help. At least til people just get fed up and stop playing period then you can actually log in to a ghost town.

This is the worst part. It honestly seems like their master plan to deal with server congestion is to wait until most people quit.

660GTX is fine. Your CPU is the bottleneck. Can you OC it more?

Just found the game, installed, created a character and joined Ultros. Played for a bit. No errors. Guess I got lucky.

Oh you meant 660, not 6600. Big difference!
Yeah, sorry about that. My finger added an extra "0" in their by mistake.

Do not worry, I have properly disciplined it for its refusal to follow orders.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have a 500W PSU now, and by a [supposedly] good brand [Antec]. I'm not sure if that will be adequate enough or not, though.

I'll definitely keep these components in-mind, though. $400 for a new PC is entirely feasible.

I'm going to try to push it to 3.2GHZ tonight and see. I'm not sure how much of a performance increase that will give me, though.

I have thermal paste and a heatsink, so I should be able, but I'm not entirely sure until I try.

They need to add some sort of fate scaling, else this might become Warhammer Online.
I really do hope they identify that people are choosing to use massive FATE zergs as their leveling tool of choice and add some stuff to offset that. Even if it's just boosting the EXP you get in dungeons, that would be a big start. Implementing some sort of decay system would also help but I don't want them to do that unless they make leveling via other means viable, because then we'd just be left with slow leveling.

I had a blast today at Hawke Manor with 3 other gaffers.

The MAR would mark the two most important enemies that she would aggro, then I would mark the other one as not-attack and either I or the CNJ would sleep them. After that, every fight was smooth sailing.
Plus, as we were all first timers in the dungeon, we got to have the joy of exploring it and finding out about the boss mechanics by ourselves.

Once players aren't all leveling at the same time and scatter to do dungeons at endgame, level second jobs, or gather and craft, there won't be any FATE zergs anymore. Everyone's just rushing to cap right now at launch. Once there aren't any zergs anymore, the XP gain will drop off tremendously from FATEs.

Also, rushing to cap with FATEs is all well and good but once you get there you'll need gear anyways. So really you're only short-cutting one aspect of the process.
