Hey, how come Sony didn't invest in any big 3rd party exclusives?

Timed Indie exclusives...

I hope there are some japanese exclusives that will come out in the next few years (that will come out in the west I mean).

Things like Rapture are PS4 exclusive, not all of them are timed.

That's a far cry from the situation Titanfall is in.

From a business POV your right, but from a Consumer POV, I wouldn't consider either of them locked exclusives but I'd consider them both big name games.

There was something in the works with FF15 but when the new CEO came in, apparently those talks dried up. Ironically Wada was for the partnership.

And Epic Games own the IP. So, it can go Multi-Platform at anytime. In fact, there are rumors that the next GoW could be multi-platform.

Anything is possible. I wouldn't hold my breath though lol, especially if you're a Gears of War fan. Epic Games may own the IP, but MS owns the publishing rights ;-)

Would third party exclusive versions of current gen titles be possible? Eg getting the exclusive for batman origins or GTAV (perhaps time)? Or is this new titles?

Is it even possible for a company to own publishing rights for a franchise indefinitely even though they don't own the IP?

A better question is why doesnt Microsoft spend their money on first party studios? Microsoft never keeps buying exclusives...after year 2 and forward the amount of money they spend on 3rd party exclusives drops dramatically.

An exclusive from WB? Could it be a new F,E,A,R? Perhaps it's a new State of Emergency. Or a new No-One Lives Forever? Wouldn't that be something....

Then again, it could be something from Traveler's Tales. A Lego game based on one of Sony's IPs perhaps?

LEGO Uncharted actually sounds pretty cool

No long term commitment. Once they get a solid user base established they can greatly reduce overhead by pulling back to just iterative releases of Halo, Forza, etc.. Don't need a bunch of 1st party studios for that.

Now they're trying to cobble together first party titles like they did at the beginning of the OG Xbox, but with no Bungie level developer to purchase.

LEGO Kratos...Would that be amazing or terrible? I'd really like some LEGO games of Sony 1st party stuff, maybe a LEGO Heroes, with Crash, Spyro, Sackboy, knack, jak, nathan drake, etc.

Seems like Sony invested a lot of money into smaller indie games but most people don't care about those.

God it's so lame how we continue to segment these markets. These days, a 5 million seller can just as easily come from the digital indie realm as the retail market.

Great games are great games.

Also, Sony has third party exclusives. But they don't feel the need to spend for them as often because their first party studios dwarf the competition.

Both strategies are fine, Microsoft and Sony's are both out of necessity - Sony because they don't have as much free cash to buy third party exclusives, and Microsoft because they don't have enough time to rapidly build up their first party studios to be able to compete with Sony in output and quality.

I had some second thoughts about doing this, but what the hell? I don't think it will matter if it's like this. Sony has exclusive games coming from the following:

- Sega
- Capcom
- Level-5
- Namco Bandai
- Lockstarter (lol)
- Lazyeye (lol)
- Warner Bros.
- Koei

Some others too but will not say those just yet. This isn't including partnerships which wouldn't really be third party. It's okay though guys, Sony doesn't have any money. Poor people for a reason. Lockstarter? Who has even heard of them? Exactly.

Having said that, the larger focus is on improving their first party teams and taking things from there.

Edit -

Someone in the list who shouldn't be. Removed for now...

No Atlus? :(

Whomever you want them to be :D

Saw your edit, chose to post regardless

Hoping rockstar is among them

I think Lockstarter is Rockstar and is one of the WRPGs he's teasing. :p

As for Lazyeye, well, I really don't have any idea. Probably Ubi or a JP studio.

Uhhh, I hate insiders.

Lockstarter and Lazyeye.

If we find something that makes sense to us, if it ends up being what Verendus meant, if the actual deals happen, if Verendus is not bullshitting. MAYBE we'll see a game from those talented guys at Lockstarter and Lazyeye.

I don't get excited about this stuff. Even once Sony announce it, it's still not definite.

So just... Wait for their first party announcements. Sony shouldn't pay for third party. Just make better first party stuff.

Are you talking about announced games like Deep Down and Yakuza or unannounced games? (Or both)

Ahhh I am tired of this. If Sony has so many games and exclusives, why are they so reserved?? I am anxious to know both first and third party exclusives that are coming to the console.

Because they are in a position where they don't have to reveal everything. If they had shit reception and preorders they would be acting like MS and announcing everything and anything they can.

He said Yakuza was not part of the deal which makes sense the series has always been on PS

I bet Namco Bandai release a low budget Tales port to PS4 to get the audience moved to the system then release a full fledged Tales later. There is going to be one more PS3 Tales

Holy crap, did they just make this deal today or is the game like a MMO or something? Is this one of the two JRPG's you said Studio Japan was working on?
No deal yet. I was on auto-pilot and not really thinking when I included it. And no, it's not one of those two JRPGs.
