The Wonderful 101 |OT| Diplomacy has failed

Just finished the game - nothing could have prepared me for that finale. Minblowing. Never seen anything this insane in a game. The crazy serial escalation and sheer absurdity made me think of Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo.

So yeah, I love this game. Fun, funny, imaginative and deep, with tons of content and incredible attention to detail. Really a damn shame it doesn´t sell millions. There are really only two issues worth mentioning: The fights against Vorkken suck, and there´s one pretty uninspired mission.

Also, a while ago, I mentioned that Alvion (Malicious) apparently worked on something for Wii U - it seems Wonderful 101 might have been that project.

That's pretty interesting if true. I thought Malicious had some pretty cool ideas for an action game

Is MP only for Mission Mode? Impressions someone pls?

I think so.

I'm wondering if there are any difficulty differences depending on the amount of players

Excited at the thought of a similar mode in Bayo 2. (and if
Rodin
is playable here, he gotta be playable in the real thing)

I know I'll probably get used to it later but this game is really grating on me with it's desire to not explain anything and obscure my character.

I'll keep at it.

So the guy with the fastest Pure Platinum time in the demo, and the only one who bothered putting up a video of a Mission Mode Pure Platinum run, has done another Pure Platinum run with Mission Mode Easy B. And it's exhilarating to watch.

Using Green with enemy weapons looks like an insanely strong tactic.

Boss weapons build points like crazy and green builds multiplier, and you're cancelling between the two of them rapidly

I thought Angel Arms were extremely strong in Bayonetta but they got nothing on that

It's Mission Mode only and you can do it even with the demo. It's one of the reasons why there's no slowdown while drawing and you have infinite battery gauge.

However, if you play with one person you get 50 people. If you play with 2 people, each gets 25. And from the video if you play with 5 people you start with 10 each, which looks like the minimum size required for a morph. If you're playing by yourself you have a 100 member max, but with 2-5 people it's 150 max between everybody.

From my time in the demo, I learned that you can steal people from your friends if they're stunned on the ground by just circling them with the wonder liner, so you can be mean with each other too. You can't be too mean though, because you all share a health bar.

Other than all that, I probably won't use the multiplayer much for the simple fact that hardly anyone else I know will also buy the game and get any good at it. Same issue with Catherine...

Oh so it's actually easier playing solo

Yeah, but the requirements for that character and
Bayonetta
are pretty tough compared to everything else, it seems, so no one has reported unlocking them even in Japan.

Oh, I figured
Wonder-Director
was more of an easter egg than a secret character.

Just finished Op-003...these bosses mang... these bosses. Im loving everything about this game except some contrived usage of gamepad "puzzlesections", small amount of jank w.r.t platforming and having a hard time following what's going on on the gamepad at times. Maybe it's just hard to follow the action on the smaller screen.

Hold down L (or ZL?) on the gamepad puzzle sections, makes the camera more like a normal third-person game camera.

Ugh, on-rail sections. They're such buzzkill :(

"You like fast paced action? Here's a long winded slow moving on rail section, hope you love it!"

I can't even get silver on 006-B. Always die twice while controlling virgin victory.

And, is there a more efficiency way to level up all the wonderful agents?

Welp, Operation
006-B
was the least enjoyable part of the game yet for me.
Overly long janky shmup section, slippery mechanics (god I hate those), and rocky combat field gimmic that mess up your combos. A massive pain in the butt all around.

Cemented the fact that I'm never going to try a Pure Plat run ever, too many parts would get way too frustrating, I'd probably break my gamepad in anger at some point :/

Edit: But the boss fight afterwards was so great, pure no bullshit action delight.

Is Pure Platinum even possible as a ranking at the end of an operation? i think i pure platinum'ed all the missions in the prologue but didn't get a pure platinum trophy at the end.

Ugh, the game froze on me with a high beeping sound at the very end of 005-A
After fighting Prince Vorrken the third time for forever..
Time to do lots of shit again. Could be worse, the mission is smashing so far! :)

Game, why are you so edgy??

Finally got my Wii U and got to try the demo.

Initially had some issues drawing certain shapes consistently on the gamepad, but it wasn't a big problem. Just needed to experiment a bit to see why it works/doesn't work.

Loving the experience even though I need a lot more improvement. I seem to prefer using the stick to draw, as I'd rather not sacrifice mobility for even a brief moment(maybe I'm lazy too). Getting better with each try, so no sweat.
I can't seem to air-juggle enemies like in those YT videos. Do I have to wait for a certain moment(dizzy?)or something?

It's possible I got it in the demo eventually

gotta do all the hidden missions. if there's any gaps in your trophy lineup at the end you're missing some optional encounters

Enemies need to be stunned, yes. After you successfully block an attack or you can use the Climb Attack (X button).

I'm really exhausted now, guess why. That last part of the game was awesome, epic and long as heck. Have to take a break. Excellent game and so motivating. I so want to enhance my shitty results now. I wasn't so hot about some of the arcade like gameplay sections but the rest of the game is pure bliss. Congratulations, Platinum and Hideki Kamiya!

When you beat two scorpios without being hit with 1/4 of the screen at your disposal you know you have improved. I wondered when it was getting insane reading this thread, it striked me at a certain point when you think of all you have done to go through the final boss and then the thing never finishing. I'm a bit discouraged for platinum runs as some missions have no checkpoints and full of encounters like 009/b, plus punchout and shootemup sections... I'm bad at that.

Have fun, Morfeo!

Saur put out another video, this time of a Pure Platinum of the first boss level in the game. Unfortunately, he ran into some technical difficulties with a bug.

If you want to go straight to the bug-free part of the video, click here:

That one was removed, here is the new one:

I completed it! Just under 20 hours. I didn't rush through the game, I replayed only a few levels.

The good:
The game looks amazing and runs great. Cool presentation, fun story, crazy mini-games and lots and lots of wonderful action. Tons of re-playability too and much extra stuff.

The bad:
Many mini-games, lesser used mechanics and scripted events are really obtuse and sometimes frustrating. I've seen some Youtube videos of the game and other people are having the exact same problems. Some wonky camera angles, especially annoying during platforming segments. Most of these issues should go away on replay. But level 7 flat out sucks.

Overall, pretty damn cool game. A bit rough around the edges sometimes, but the games makes this up in fun and style.

i like the minigames and scripted events... i know its QTE but somehow it is more fun for me to draw a circle or a line than press x or y

Pretty much my feelings about the game. It's a flawed gem that would have been more enjoyable for me if it had stayed away from not being combat and puzzle oriented.

On another note:

The Vorkken fights are simply terrible. Sometimes it's just impossible to tell where your lead character and Vorkken are, let alone what you should be doing.

BTW, does anyone know how to activate Hero Counter? Do you press down on the L stick or do you push it in a direction?

I liked the puzzles and gamepad sections a lot, actually. The arcade stuff less so.

Vorkken is pretty frustrating but awesome actually. The battles really take too long, though. I still can't read the health gauges properly.

i actually loved the vorkken fights because they are so frantic.

If you draw your wonder-liner through their army, you regain health. I have no idea why, but it happens and makes it virtually impossible to die.

I pretty much spammed a big Unite Sword as an Assist while trying to keep my distance. Sometimes rush in to block an obvious punch.

Vorkken fights are pretty easy - been playing on hard and i usually get gold/plat on the first try.
just wait till he uses hammer or fist - block and then attack. evade all the other attacks like whip, claws etc. with slow-mo time, wait till he is done attacking you and then attack again. It helps if you only attack with huge unite morphs - the best is the fist.

Did you miss any secret missions?

Yes but i found it now. Thanks.

That's exactly what I've been doing, I just haven't been having too much fun doing it.

It's pushing the stick in the enemy direction when he attacks, you can train on the lava level with the little lava rocks crashing on the ground, it's easy to counter and makes you more confident with the mechanic. I did that too with the generators in last mission that have circular beams, just push forward when it gonna hit you, makes a easy counter, and it gives you a mega morph which is interesting.

Im in the second vorkken fight and he can go and fuck himself, sometimes I can deal massive damage but other times after doing the same thing seems to do nothing, when I suppose he has half its life he just spams without stoping his attacks never leaving a chance for me to counter, and when I used the shield mountain thing in the hammer and hand he uses he usually deals me damage breaking it.
Any tips to beat him without me losing a life?
EDIT: ok read some tips from the other page, its repetitive but it seems to work. Not really that fun when he spams attacks though. I need to watch a pure platinum boss run of this game.

And i also hate the fucking tutles lol
