Nintendo Confirms Miiverse for 3DS "Soon", Smartphone Apps for Network Also Coming

Stop teasing, Nintendo! How long can it take to put Miiverse on 3DS and smartphones? They should have been working on it since before the Wii U came out so they could have it available alongside or close to it's launch. Instead we get it a year later. It's like they thought up Miiverse and put in on Wii U and then months later thought "Hey, maybe we should put this on 3DS too."

You just depressingly know that's probably what happened.

Won't Miiverse for the 3DS mean NNIDs finally being implemented for the 3DS? Or... am I being dumb?

In some shape or form yeah, it'll have to, but it could mean in the same way web browsers and smartphones have NNIDs. If it's the same as browsers and phones and you need a Wii U to post I'll be pissed though.

I'm curious how they could even make Miiverse work on that shitty low res screen.

They make a fair few things work on that shitty low res screens. Least on 3DS I'll have some games to post about!

Nintendo needs an unified account system in order to build a proper ecosystem that isn't confined to individual platforms and create a synergy between the 3DS and Wii U instead of having them compete against each other.

What do they mean by Miiverse on 3DS, liek we can access from the internet browser, or do they mean a Miiverse like the one on WiiU for 3DS games?, I hope it's the latter.

I'm really excited for Miiverse on 3DS.

Roll it on! :D

Edit: I'm sure Miiverse will be like the Wii U one. It'd only make sense since you can hit home and easily access it.

To be fair, it's less competition and more 3DS swinging the Wii U's severed cajones around it's head with mirthful glee.

Why has it taken Nintendo so long to get MiiVerse on the 3DS ?

Nintendo really need to sort their R&D division out, they are so slow now at getting anything done, where did it all go wrong ?

The 3DS was not built for web/app integration. Sure, it has a browser, but the limited ram (only 128k), and the weak ARM processor its using limits it to what it can achieve.

Plain web access using NNIDs created on the Wii U would be trivial and wouldn't require an update at all (just like on PC). I suppose this update will at the very least allow 3DS users to create NNIDs on their system, anything beyond that is a guess:

- Will it support screenshot uploading?
- Will it know which 3DS games you own/played to mark you as "owner" on communities?
- Will it run with a game in background or will it be a dedicated app like Swapnote?

I think running in background is very important and entirely possible. Miiverse on the Wii U *is* a website running on a browser with a few extra features (like grabbing an screenshot of whatever game is suspended and accessing your game logs). The 3DS can run a browser while a game is suspeded. So Nintendo would only need a modified version of the 3DS browser with the extra features and hardcode it to access a 3DS-targeted version of the Miiverse website. The 3DS browser doesn't have any big performance problems with "mobile" websites (mobile GAF, for example).

But this is Nintendo, so we never know.

1) Likely. They could incorporate a tool like they do with the Wii U
2) Likely. It could just feed off your activity log and stuff
3) I imagine it'll be able to run in the background like the browser since it's not anything too tech heavy.

The 'H' stands for hentai.

Surely you mean 128MB main ram and 6MB of VRAM.

...but yes, your point still stands, the anemic RAM used on the 3DS has come back to bite them since the console cannot do multitasking that well. Another iteration with 256 MB of ram in the future still doesn't solve the current issue of RAM.

How much of that RAM is actually reserved by OS on the 3DS?
I don't see Miiverse consuming much RAM anyway; it basically just has to load some posts and pictures. Maybe the refresh point will be lower than Wii U's version.

Guys, I think we're only 4-5 "Miiverse is coming to 3DS soon" statements away from it actually happening!

lol, good luck with that. Nintendo still need to 'solve' that predicament.

Well for Wii U users to uses Miiverse on 3DS they'll have to use the same NNID, so surely Nintendo will have to be working something out to tie games on both systems to the NNID....right?

This, namechange on Facebook, the 2DS, several directs and the big fall conference due in the next 2-3 weeks. Something big is coming. Nintendo is switching gears.

It bothers me that for the 3DS and the Wii U that universal accounts are such an issue.

Just implement a firmware update for the 3DS and Wii U with universal accounts. When the console loads up, it prompts the user to type an email address and a password (maybe add some security questions). Then when the hardware loads up, run a check on currently downloaded software and tie it to this account.

Problem solved.

That problem doesn´t even exist in the first place, what you described is just front-end stuff - maybe 1% of what actually needs to be done.

WiiU's Killer App =3

Can't wait for the 3DS version.

And talking about things on 3DS I can't wait that are "Soon" ... any news on Flipnote ?

ArtHands

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Its crazy how long they take to implement this.

I won't be surprise if "soon" means end of this year and not sep/oct.

I'm curious as to what we are getting in the update. the fact that it was delayed from summer makes it more interesting. I'm guessing its going to include N64 and GBA games though but I don't know what else really.

This, namechange on Facebook, the 2DS, several directs and the big fall conference due in the next 2-3 weeks. Something big is coming. Nintendo is switching gears.

To me it just seems like they are trying to make a family of devices and add more connectivity which isn't a bad thing.

- Will it support screenshot uploading?

I honestly can't understand why the 3DS doesn't already support a native screenshot system. The Gamenotes feature is 90% of the way there. It displays a screenshot of whatever was happening when the game was suspended but foolishly you can only save the note rather than the screenshot.

You'd think that a simple update would bring this feature but I'm not too sure.

Without this feature coming first the ability to upload screenshots would be extremely limited and ruin a large part of MiiVerse's appeal.

Emily Rogers tweeted that she heard "rumblings" that it was coming at the end of October after Pokemon X & Y. She's usually pretty spot on when it comes to updates and indie news.

Is there a link to this tweet?

Jesus I completely forgot about Flipnote. My guess is major issues with the gallery maybe? It was meant to come out early/mid August if I remember correctly, maybe they're saving it for the 2DS launch since it can do that one big screen thing.

But it's already out in Japan and as far as I know, there's no notable issues.
