Xbox One Dashboard Leak - Version 2

Looks nice and quick, slick, which is great.

But I absolutely hate the Windows 8 aesthetic. Not interested unfortunately. :(

Ahhh but this is also the dashboard we are talking about. The recommendations are basically ads.

Personalised ads aren't so bad. I've bought a couple of games using the personalised ads on the 360, I hope both the One and PS4 offer this...it's a great way to come hidden gems or games you might otherwise would have never bothered with.

Also, anyone else sitting here, wondering where the hell this kid got his paws on this machine?

This guy's back after 8 years?

Personalised adds are fine as you say they lead you to content you might like, its the paid for adds that hog the initial dash page that are annoying, ive not brought Lovefilm for the last 2 odd years the advert has been there, its wasting both out time.

I understand Microsoft and partners want to advertise to you, both for adverts sake and also to help show you new content. If they have to have x amount of screen space showing "adverts" I would much rather that let you setup you own live tiles with personal search critera and then have that show the results of that.

eg, games released in the last 14 days with a user score over x% in Genre x,y,x

that way it shows me new content to tempt me to buy and I get to see stuff I might actually like. Of course such control does mean I might miss killer games outside that scope but even if this was in addition to whatever "adverts" they run I think it would be cool.

On the 360 would love a live tile that scrolls through the new demos of the week, and one for the new arcade games of the week. Save me digging down and just let me see it. If it could overlay some community score on the artwork as well that would be awesome.

Liked the look of the dash very much like the current 360 dash. Kinect in every box will be a boon to just using that to navigate the system more quickly.

That young guy in the video had to be old enough to realise that once you put that up on the internet it isn't coming down. What a plonker. Hope he thinks internet kudos was worth whichever person in his family had that X1 at home and is probably in a lot of trouble.

I dont think the boxyness of the dash leads well to using kinect tbh, the boxes are very close to each other and are stacked in numbers that just screams like effort needed to kinect control. Wonder if its just beta dash and the layout is off.

No one uses their hands to control the dash. It is far easier to just say what you want or grab the controller.

Overall, I'm liking the dash, looks slick and responsive. Hopefully they do a full reveal of the dang thing.

I guess keeping with the W8 theme is an obvious must then. Shame, looks a bit cluttered for what it should be.

Just wish the kid would have taken a better shot of that label on the console so we can know if there is a dual gpu in there.

Wouldn't surprise me if there was. Still won't put me off a PS4 though. PC is for multiplats, PS4 is for exclusives to me anyway..

Windows 8 tiles!!!

Comeon Microsoft let them burn!!!!

Windows 8 gives me cold shivers!!!

Yet I'm I'm charge of over 1000 desktops and not once has Microsoft tried to get me to move towards windows 8!

I don't know if it has been mentioned in the many pages of this topic, but I found very interesting that there were IR lights on the top of the gamepad (or I suppose that's what we can see in the two red squares, thanks to the camera sensitivity). We can also see two squares on the front of the controller, which are certainly meant to be tracked by the kinect, but why the two on top ? Fortaleza glasses ? It would make sense, to have AR effects "glued" to your gamepad.

The 2 on the face look more like IR sensors than emitters. You can't see any light coming out of them even though the camera is picking up other IR light like the Kinect's. The two on the front are supposed to be IR LEDs

An infrared LED on the front of the controller allows Kinect to automatically recognize you, making it easier to pick up and play.

But the two on the face look quite similar to the two on the front, in the video. And a sensor would be completely invisible since it is passive and doesn't emit light (unless we're considering there is a kinect in the gamepad, but that's just impossible ;) ).
That's why I was speculating those were meant to be seen by a wearable camera, since they're not in an ideal position to be seen by the kinect. Unless there are scenarios where you could play with the top of the controller facing the camera, but it doesn't seem too convenient.

In my heart of hearts I truly hope that the X1 dashboard is fully customizeable, with any and all tiles able to be moved or deleted from the home screen, akin to the Desktop settings in Windows. I mean after all the OS is basically a stripped down Windows 8. Give us the ability to get rid of all the nonsense we don't want on the home screen and I'll be ecstatic. I'd have 'launch game', netflix, and the web browser on the home screen and that's it.

Friends? Achievements? Messages? DVR?

Nope. I can hit the guide button to bring all that up (assuming it is similar to the 360 interface anyway). I'd rather have my home screen clean and uncluttered and use the guide button as my 'start menu' of sorts. If the other stuff HAS to be on the dashboard, I'd at least prefer it to be on a separate screen than the home screen. On my smart phone I have only three things on my home screen - messages at the top left, and the video player and web browser at the bottom. All my other shortcuts for youtube, phone settings, music player, netflix, everything are all on two other swipe screens to the left and right of my home screen so that I don't see them when I unlock the phone.

I see your logic and preference however there is no guide. The dashboard is always fully available. Speculation: Maybe you could group the tiles to get sort of the same effect.

kind of like an android phone with your own personalised screens? That would be awesome but i cant see it happening

If our 'pins' screen is fully customizable and allows us to set 'any' app on the entire ecosystem I'll be a happy man.

So it's Windows 8 Metro for consoles, meaning it looks like fucking shit. It's like a step backwards in UI design, however it looks seems to be very fast and slick.

Yeah more or less. It would be really nice, because I'm a minimalist when it comes to the landing screen of interfaces on my devices as much as possible. I don't get the drive for these cluttered interfaces that most things have by default. It's kinda schizophrenic in approach. Like instead of doing everything with calm confidence, they try to scream at you "I do EVERYTHING!!! Use ME!". Yikes.

Even though its nice to see the dashboard in action. You do have to feel for this kids parents. One of them is probably getting bitched at and/or fired for breaking NDA. Yes they didn't do it directly, but in NDAs for things like this ones signature tends to also speak for ones family.

I'm thinking that the far left side is, in typical Metro fashion, just your Pins section. You will likely be able to organize and reorganize it to your hearts content.
