Nintendo sold almost as much Pikmin in a month than they sold Wii Us in a quarter. At least people that own the system are buying the software...hell they may have been starved for Luigi and Pikmin 3....

See here was the problem:

NSMB2 3DS = Aug 2012
NSMBU Wii U = Nov 2012

TWO brand new games 3 months apart, talk about fatigue.

Now DK is doing it right:

DKCR3D 3DS = March 2013
DKCTF Wii U = Dec 2013

I don't see that as the problem. Other publishers would have just released the same game on handheld and console at the same time and called it a day. At least Nintendo thought to release different games.

This simply ignores the elephant in the room. Nintendo missed on Wii U. Wrong product, wrong price, wrong pitch, wrong time. If Wii U were a healthy platform, NSMBU and other titles would perform better, and the similar games on 3DS wouldn't be scapegoated, and vice versa.

I'd hardly call DKCR 3D a remake :p It's just a port. It shouldn't have much of an effect on Tropical Freeze.

DKC3D won't stop people who already own a Wii U from getting Tropical Freeze, but that number is slim.

Here are a couple examples of people that DKC3D could dissuade from buying Tropical Freeze:

A person who owns a 3DS but not a Wii U. They might have been interested in buying a Wii U for the unique DKC experience, but they just played DKCR and if they wait long enough, they might get a Tropical Freeze port.

A person who is weighing getting either a 3DS or a Wii U and went with a 3DS because it offers the totality of Nintendo experiences including NSMB, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, and Smash Bros.

The existence of DKC3D is just another game that offers a similar experience to one of Wii U's few key titles and selling points.

Ah, right a port. :)
I think a part of DKCR's success can be attributed to the fact that there hadn't been a DK platformer in a while. Tropical Freeze is going to look less appealing to their audience after the release of a DK platformer earlier in the year, it also doesn't help that there isn't a drastic aesthetic difference.

You have the proposition backwards. Software sells hardware. Sure, Nintendo misfired on the GamePad, but you can't blame intangibles like "wrong pitch" or "wrong time." It's a games console, and it needs unique games to sell.

When it shares games like NSMBU and DKCTF that offer extremely similar experiences on their cheaper handheld, that's going to affect the platform. That's something tangible.

That is why I think Capcom is in lot of trouble going forward. They openly admitted they were screwed in the west more or less this year with LP3 as their tentpole project but even they didn't think it would do that bad.

MH4 is all they have to save them this year.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Hard to tell anyone who's casual to drop 250 on a legit non tiny space SKU at this point in the gen.

Was easy last gen when the PS2 was $150 or lower. $200 for a current system with jack shit for space just isn't gonna move units this late in the generation.
