New NSMBU+NSLU Wii U Bundle incoming (?)

This bundle, the Wind Waker bundle, the price drops, DKC, SMW3D, plus the existing library and stuff like MK8 on the horizon is a pretty big swing at making this holiday season count.

If the system doesn't recover after this - and I'm not talking huge third-party sales, but just steady hardware/software for Nintendo at least - then I think we can pretty much start making the funeral arrangements, as I don't think there's much more Nintendo can do, short of a Pokemon-like phenomenon that appears and rejuvenates the system.

The casuals don't give a shit about specs. Why would they buy a PS4 for 400 dollars with no game when they can buy a Wii U with Mario for under 300? You also seem to be forgetting about the 3DS, which will probably sell better than all three consoles combined.

Also, are you forgetting that the Wii U will be competing against the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well? The GTA IV + 500GB PS3 bundle is 50 quid cheaper than than the Windwaker + Wii U bundle and it is far better value for money.

This is the game that should've been bundled from the start.

What's the point of all these bundles if it's still going to be $300?

Because if you want a Wii U and NSMB:U + NSL:U, it's $380 still. This is like an 80 dollar price drop for people who don't want Nintendo Land and want two of the greatest games of the system. Not that Nintendo Land isn't worth it, it totally is. People just aren't informed enough about it to base purchasing decisions around it. People want safe pack-ins that are guaranteed fun.

Is New Super Luigi Bros U a different game than NSMB-U? Serious question.

Same basic gameplay, but you play as Luigi, so your momentum and jump are slightly different from what you'd expect. Also, instead of the standart games stages, you get completely reworked harder stages. This becomes apparent mainly because there is a lot more going on on-screen and you start with the timer at 100. I played both to 100 % completion and have to say that they feel very similar (one is DLC for the other, after all), but it gives you a lot of added value. For what Luigi U cost, it gave me more than enough hours of playtime (and a really nice challenge, at that).

This seems like a cost-effective bundle offer. Makes a lot of sense too. Question is will the expanded audience want a Wii U even with these bundles and a $50 price drop? I'm kind of a bit fatigued on the New SMB series, so I'm more interested in getting Wind Waker HD, assuming the console bundle isn't limited edition.

Because the casuals want to continue enjoying their favorite game franchises, and the U doesn't get the majority of them.

They also probably own an Xbox 360 or PS3 and want the newer, more powerful system.

I honestly think Super Luigi U would've been a better pack in at launch than NSMBU. It's just different enough to be a bit unique from the other New title with the rabbit character and shorter timed stages. It also would have helped since NSMB2 released just months before.

Oh man, I just know somebody will get pissed at me for saying this but I really don’t feel like $300 is that much of an effective price to do anything significant especially for the mass market and I don't feel like it is particularly a great deal either with tax and other things considered where I live which brings it up to around $340.

I don't even know why they're bundling a Mario game. Isn't NSMB U's attach rate already ridiculously high?

People will buy the Mario games anyway.

I reckon a Mario 3D World bundle would make much more sense, that's the game they are probably going to push in November/December.

That would be ideal. However, Nintendo's hoping it can obviously profit off of the stand alone sales of that game since it is selling the console at further loss due to the official price cut. Besides, with 3D World coming out during the holiday season, it should sell better than the previous Wii U games this year. I bet you'll see Nintendo do an inevitable bundle with 3D World a year or two from now anyway.

So there is no tax for PS4 and XBONE where you live?

I'm pretty sure that they didn't want to resort to this. NSMBWii sold ~20 million before it got packed in, I think.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Nintendo will not "dominate" this holiday- they could do well enough to maintain viability and keep up some momentum until Mario Kart.

Even with a free game the Wii U bundles are not good enough value. The Wii U this winter will have to compete with not only the PS4 and the One, but really good PS3 and Xbox 360 bundles. Even 7 years on, a PS3 is a much more future proof purchase than the Wii U.

So tired of this argument. It's true, but it doesn't mean much when we're talking about the somewhat unpredictable, broader market. They aren't experts and they don't distinguish between game consoles in the same ways we do. A value package deal including a Mario game could still win over some for that reason alone. Last I checked, you can't play Mario on the 360 or PS3. Having exclusive Sonic and Donkey Kong games, as well as an additional Mario one, all launching during peak shopping season only gives the console more appeal to those who will recognize those brands. Not saying this will win Nintendo the console war, but I don't doubt that they'll have trouble moving consoles this holiday.

Also, some proper marketing could go a long way for Nintendo, assuming they actually put some effort into it. I don't think Wii U's fate is written in stone yet, and it'll be interesting to see what happens this holiday.

It's probably all digital on the games sadly, so $370 instead of $380. Better digital than no case I suppose. The NSMB Wii bundle just gave you a paper sleeve for the disc.

With the ad saying coming November I could see that perhaps being the Black Friday styled bundle this year.

Pack in the Mario game and they might consider other games to pickup along side the console. Instead of just grabbing the console and Mario.

For every exclusive Nintendo game, there are huge games like GTA and Destiny that aren't coming to the Wii U. Lots of people don't count third party games in these arguments because they aren't 'exclusive' but you can't get them on the Wii U. A bundle with 3D Land would do well, but I'm willing to bet that a 360 or PS3 bundle with GTA V even at this stage will sell better.

This is what the Wind Waker bundle should have been. I'm sure more people would prefer two solid platformers rather than a mediocre Zelda they played 10 years ago, but that's just me.

Can't believe this comment went ignored. Both platformers are very nice, but I think WW HD is a much better value.

Quick question, has nsmbu not been a pack in deal with the wii u yet? If not, what have been the pack in deals so far? Nintendoland?

WW HD is like the perfect compliment to a NSMB:U bundle. Most people could find value in either one of those games otherwise they're probably not in the market for a Nintendo console as it is. They're both known for being high-quality games. The perfect pack-in SKU duo.

Bingo. If this bundle comes to America before black friday, Nintendo will move ALOT of systems.

The battle is over until Smash and Mario Kart are out.
