Is this a fucking 60 FPS gif?

This is my GOTY and I've only played 1 hour.

Mine so far as well and I've played about 2 hours I think. I'm struggling a lot at times, not so much the controls but just the game in general. Despite having played the demo already, I still feel like I have a lot to learn, and I'm ok with that.

Just did the Operation 005 boss...holy shit. I instantly knew what to do, it was amazing. I love all these bosses. 4 was easily the weakest so far but it was still ok. The others have all been epic as hell. This game just keeps on giving. I get the feeling that I'm not even close to the end either even though the game kind of makes me want to feel that way. (The "class" of the GEATHJERK bosses kind of gives it away, no?)

What things should I buy from the Wonderful Mart first? Unite Morphs? Custom Blocks? Skills? Anything in particular that should be purchases as early as possible? So far I've only bought the first four Unite Morphs (Guts, Spring, Ball, and Rocket).

I recommend Speed Liner and Unite Tombstone as well. Get the Ukemi Custom Block with your first mixed credit card.

There is a hero heart in Operation 5-A and 5-B each as well. Operation 5 was also the first Operation where I found five Plat coins in both A and B.

Also, I suck at Punch-Out.

Warning about Kakhoo missions: When you leave them all of your leaders get reset. It's annoying digging through for them. I have 68 Wonderful Ones currently, and for whatever reason as your guys get reset all of the temporary members get moved to the front of the list. Thank god for sort options, but they only slightly alleviate the pain.

Also, Lowrule is the opposite of Hyrule.

Going to do Operation 006 quick then call it a night.

These missions are pretty damn long, took me three hours to get through the first two parts of the Blossom City operation.

I feel like I missed some stuff, anyone got a list of all the Heroes/Hero Files to look out for? By the way, do only the main heroes get a Wonder File, or do the minor ones as well?

Just final impressions about the last couple operations, and some general thoughts

Operation 008 felt like a whole lotta filler. Kamiya knows how to reuse them assets, remember he made an entire boss in Bayonetta out of one. Hell, Platinum Robo is made out of a bunch of building assets, too! A long gauntlet through a lot of enemies you already faced, kinda like 7, but without 7's new environments or platforming sections. There's one fun bit where you have to fight off a ship in a mobile vehicle while you're watching both screens, that was good...but it stands out because the rest of the level is so unmemorable. Even the boss itself feels uninspired, reusing the turret section AND Punch-Out!! ideas from earlier encounters. Kinda meh.

Operation 009, however, is godlike in all ways it could possibly be godlike. The Space Harrier missions are among W101's best alternate gameplay sections, and as a homage it's just delightful, right down to P. Robo running at the bottom of the screen or the big dragon thing you fight as the first boss, I love that shit. The main combat sections are great as well, with the P.Robo putting a new spin on the old idea of recruiting enemies. There's a great sense of escalation here, with satisfying climaxes(the Shogunate Comet BLOWING AWAY that entire battalion is too good) giving way to even bigger problems, until you're basically going head to head with Mother Brain on a Terminator-esque vendetta inside the Death Star. IDK if the final boss is better than Bayo's, but its certainly bigger both in it's scale and variety of encounters. Undeniably epic, you can feel Kamiya and his team really trying to go all out for this giant conclusion. I feel like sometimes less is more and I was a bit worn out by the end, but the final QTE is like...life-affirming shit.

Overall, it's a pretty goddamn great game, but I don't think I'd put it ahead of Bayonetta. I have a preference for Bayonetta's style of combat over W101, and although some of it's alternate gameplay ideas are better than Bayos, there are also more of them, and for every neat Gamepad section or Punch-Out homage, there's a boring turret button mashing section or an overlong side-scrolling shooter stage to accommodate it. And Viewtiful Joe...besides just being a great game, I also have a nostalgic love for that one, so I have to put that ahead as well.

Still, being the third best Kamiya game aint nothing to cry about. That still puts you above everything that's not The Last of Us this year, including P*'s own great Metal Gear Rising(sup Retro_). It's a huge, unique, wonderful action game bursting with imagination and a love of all things video games. It requires you to put the time and the effort to learn its various mechanics and inputs, but mastery of it's systems and nuances is incredibly satisfying. Even Operation 008, which I just shitted on for being kinda boring, works as a test to see just how well you know these enemies and your abilities, and those Gold/Platinum medals really feel earned. There's so much content here, I feel as if I have only scratched the surface. The only thing I wanna do now is play it again and get these Platinum ranks in order. Hell of a game, that Wonderful 101.

Also, Blue > Red > Green > Yellow >>> Black/White >>> Pink

Fuck Pink

Finished Operation 006. I haven't finished a stage with a Bronze medal yet, but 6-B gave me a Consolation Prize. You can guess why.

There was a heart piece each in 6-A and 6-B. That was surprising. I'm assuming that there are 12 heart pieces in the whole game now. Also am up to 76 Wonderful Ones, so I'm wondering how annoying it'll be to grab the ones I missed if they're not near any secret missions.

Also found an exploit. If you have Wonderful Cyclone on one weapon, draw a weapon that doesn't have it unlocked yet, and then do a buffer command switch for Cyclone, you'll perform the Cyclone on the weapon that doesn't have it yet.

Unfortunately, I seem to be bad at performing Cyclones, so I'll probably just wait until I unlock it for Green anyway.

006-C was more exhilarating than I expected it to be. It looked like it'd be easy to Pure Platinum too, except that my lowest score was my Combo Score with a Silver Medal. I'm actually considering turning off Speed Liner so that I can use less 50-man morphs and more 20-man morphs. If I need a big morph quick, I still have options such as that quick charge item.

Also, I hate Wonder White. He does low damage, obscures my character at times, and his primary purpose seems to be upping your base score in case you were killing enemies too quickly. His low damage also makes me feel like Claw members are taking forever to rank up.

Still, going Wonder Claw on a dazed/stunned enemy gets you around a bunch of bonus points...

I got the game, played through all of operation 001, and replayed some levels.

But something came up and I don't know when I will be able to play again. uuugh

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Played through the first three levels, I had to force myself to shut the Wii U off. Everything about this game is so amazing. I was grinning during some of the cutscenes and the game's charm is very contagious. Its hard not to get really into it.

I did get into some rough patches with some of the bigger guys but I think that's mostly my reflexes since its been a long day + I need sleep. Can't wait to binge out for 4 hours tomorrow...hopefully.

I know what you mean brother. Don't feel bad though, I've got a ton of consolation prizes myself, mostly from the first 2 OPs :(

Beat the game on normal, I loved it from beginning to end. Looking at the results from all the operations I think I did okay. I got mostly silver and bronze with some Consolation Prizes scattered around.

So far my experience with this game is reminding me a lot of Kid Icarus Uprising. Both games have so much charm and are very over the top. There's a lot of humor and silliness, and I find myself grinning most of the time. The gameplay is top notch and so much fun, but there are some frustrating spots especially at the start especially when you're getting used to the controls, which have a rather steep learning curve, and the games were harshly criticized for this as well. I'm not that far yet, but I believe TW101 also has a plot twist which makes the game longer than you'd think at first, which was the same case with KI:U.
Considering KI:U was my GOTY of 2012, it's so awesome to play another game that evokes similar feelings in me. I've still got a lot more to play of course, but TW101 is definitely a contender for my favorite this year so far.

Finally got all the heroes, only had to use a guide for the last six ones now I need to finish my hard playthrough and do all the Kagoo-Regah in this difficulty. So far those have been challenging but fun, looking forward to the KR in the epilogue as the one in normal had me
complete the punch out section of 005-C without getting hit, I'm afraid the ones in Hard or 101% Hard will have me do the same but with the punch out section of 008-C.

And seeing how I got the capsule for completing half the KR in the middle of my Hard playthrough it is pretty much confirmed you have to complete those on the three harder difficulties.

Love this game, I'm going to be playing it for a looooog time to come.

So I bought this game even though I do not yet own a Wii U and am not sure when I will, I just wanted so much to be sure I have it when I do and to support it and Platinum.

It's a tough year to award a GOTY, we are seeing lots of genres receiving epic games, 2013 is simply incredible.

Though I have little doubt The Wonderful 101 will be the arcade GOTY.

Am I missing something obvious, I can't figure out how to pull off the Wonder Stinger?

Like it says to move the joystick and press "A", but when I do that I just go into the normal combo.

Ah,thanks.

Another problem I'm having trouble with is recruiting foes, I thought you just draw a circle around them when they're stunned, but everytime I try my circle just turns into a Unite Fist red circle.

not when they're stunned. when they're glowing purple as they're on the verge of death.

I was so hyped for this game. Picked up my preorder Sunday and opened it. Registered the club Nintendo code. Haven't played the game yet though cause my puppy is consuming my time (training, vet, etc.) and I need to finish all the Origins levels on Rayman Legends.

Hopefully someone can understand my issue. I made it to 1-C, just after the Baseball Stadium. I went back and played the first mission after the prologue but I could not figure out how to make it back to my portion in the main story with out beating the first 2 levels first. Did I rewrite my data so that those missions weren't complete? I had all my gear and green wonder dude but I couldn't get back to my current point in the story until I beat everything all over again. I think...

The Wonderful 101 is exactly what Nintendo needed for the Wii U at launch, but now it will serve as the best title for the console moving into the holiday season. In a few weeks, those looking for a new Wii U game to give as a present will have this one great title on a shelf filled with Nintendo titles that feel a little stale by comparison. It’s not hard to see this game becoming one of the most popular in the Wii U lineup by the end of the year.

I've just finished Operation 1..... Does.... Does it get even better?

This is some of the most gloriously perfect shit I've ever played. It's absolutely amazing so far, Bayonetta 2 team must be feeling the pressure. Holy shit!

Query: for how many people is The Wonderful 101 their first Platinum game? Or: Who missed out on Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Vanquish?

*raises hand*

The last Kamiya game I spent any significant amount of time with was Viewtiful Joe. I tried Okami on the Wii but couldn't get into it.

I love how Kamiya games always take the time to justify all the crazy stuff that happens on screen through very elaborate lore. It's completely unnecessary honestly but it makes the games so much cooler.

When you use unite-line you hear this "nanotech-ish" computer sound effect, it's so good. I can't get over how amazing this game is so far, I actually had to stop and reflect on it after the first Operation. Too much perfection!

Man, it really blows this game has to come out in the same window as GTAV. For one, isn't not going to do as well sales-wise. And for two, today I have to make a decision on which to pick up. ;_;

My heart says W101, but my brain says GTA...because I can see this getting a price cut in like a month.
