IGN's hyperbole and circle-jerking of GTA5 is pretty embarassing

Do we forget that they are a business? They're in it to make a profit. I hate to break it to you, but Sony doesn't really care about the hardcore gamer. Sony simply knows how to find it's way into your wallet better than Microsoft. If IGN has an exclusive they need to promote it and run a PR campaign. This way other studios and publishers take note and give them more exclusives. More exclusives means more traffic which results in more money. Then again maybe GTA 5 is the greatest thing since Pong...

Metacritic doesnt allow multiple reviews, so how many jounalists are going to overlook any issues they have if the SP winds up being "boring" or what ever they said about GTA IV, and possibly a repeat of the PS3 where theres a game breaking bug, but throw in "but you can be sure when the MP comes out it'll be great so this game still gets a 9 or a 10, otherwise id only give it an 8" or something to that extent

Thats a good point. GTA4 the MP was pretty much the only redeeming part of it and was pretty fun. Although if you can buy the MP separately from the main game then I would consider them to be different games.

GTA is just one of those games that IGN can help but go fanboy/fangirl over. It's like how everyone has a friend who just goes apeshit for blondes or brunettes. IGN just can't get enough of GTA.

I'm sure after they award it godlike awards and scores they'll look back and regret it..like always.

What if I told you that IGN AU isn't the same editorial team responsible for the GTA V preview coverage, which largely came out of the US and UK?

I would say that makes IGN as a whole look even worse in that the lack of professionalism isn't isolated.

Their treatment of GTAV has been a mockery.

What I don't get is that everything about this game looks utterly fantastic, so why can't that just speak for itself instead of having this incredibly transparent moneyhatted wankfest?

The near-total lack of professional critics with any semblance of professionalism, competence and a neat dose of sharp writing remains a pretty big blight on the industry as a whole. Shitstains like IGN only serve to quell any possible blossoming of such approaches. Stop visiting their sites, guys. Just, stop.

These companies are spending half a games's budget into marketing and PR and they are just shoving money down every major site's ass.The sites have to do something to earn that money.Giving the game a 10/10 is not enough.

I mean, seriously? They're literally doing Rockstar's merchandising marketing for them - THREE of the links go to Rockstarwarehouse directly!
