Are they using a new engine for this game? I thought I read that somewhere, I wonder how much that costed and if they are using it on future games.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of that went into hiring better actors.

I thought HR's budget was tiny, didn't they say they expected it to sell like 500k or something?

Maybe they meant in one territory or during the quarter?

if Sony was making 30 dollars per copy sold (whatever) they'd need to sell 1 million to break even.

Very impressive judging by the graphical quality and acting talent behind it.

Shouldn't take many copies sold for it to be profitable.

Seems very reasonable actually. I expect they'll make a very healthy profit on that, as they did with HR.

HR was like $40million including marketing and distribution etc wasn't it? So this will probably be around the same.

Sony is very good at budgeting games from what Ive read....even games that dont do so well still turn a profit, like SLy 4

Beyond Engine is the same one used for the Dark sorcerer, so could well be their PS4 engine.

Not like they are high demand actors.

Thats pretty amazing when you think how much of that wasn't given to Dafoe and Page.

How much was The Last of Us and Uncharted 3 btw? I heard U2 had a really small budget. At first I thought it was just Naughty Dog but it looks like all their games are very well managed.

This is why you won't be seeing Sony paying $50+ million to moneyhat 3rd-party AAA exclusives like Microsoft did for "Titanfall", GTA IV, & etc. It's just cheaper & easier to manage costs to make your own in-house 1st & 2nd party exclusives.

Wasn't Uncharted 2 in the 20's?

Yes!!! While "Tomb Raider" was like $100 million.

So how much of that goes toward Ellen Page?
Not that much apparently according to some interview I read.

It would probably cost the same to make a movie starring Willem Dafoe and Ellen Paige.
Not even close I imagine.

Uncharted 2 was only $20M or something. Both Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us were much more expensive though. Probably cost more than Beyond.

That's still way too high. I was hoping that costs would start going down a bit so mid-tier games would become viable again.

They should easily be able to recoup that. Almost means Page and DeFoe probably didn't get paid an extortionate amount.

Really? That's nothing tbh, given the ambition and level of visual spectacle on offer. I'd rather they up the budget a tad if it gives me better gaming content, locations, a longer game etc.

So is this considered mid tier? Sony said they would only focus on AAA games and small games.

By small games: 1-5 Million?

By big AAA games: 40 Million and up?

We'll see how it is if they market it decently enough. That's where a lot of the budget goes for most big games. Then again this is Sony we're talking about here.

That's why they're so good at budgeting, they don't have to pay for marketing :p

The marketing for "Beyond Two Souls" is cranking up. I'm constantly seeing commercials for it on Youtube. It's almost to level of "The Last of Us". I think it's not a coincidence the game is coming out during Oscar season, especially with David Cage promoting the game at the Tribeca Film Festival & at BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts).
