The Wonderful 101 |OT| Diplomacy has failed

Am I the only one who didn't have any problems with the loading?

For reference, I have the digital version. But it doesn't take longer than most of the games usually take, at least, it doesn't take long for it to become noticeable to me.

no, they don't seem all that long to me either and I'm using the disc.

None of these games aside from Mario Kart have narrowed down release windows. Mario Kart is Spring. That is all we know. For all we know X could come out January 1st (it won't but it could since we have nothing other than 2014 to go by). Yarn Yoshi isn't even 2014, I think it's still TBD officially.

All we've seen from X is trailers of people walking around is what's suppose to be a hugely ambitious open world JRPG that doesn't even have a proper damn title yet, Zelda U hasn't even been officially unveiled, and if you think Smash is coming out in the first three months of 2014, there's a bridge down here in southeast Texas I can sell you. Baoynetta 2 has been in development for years, and has been in playable demos for months. It's gotta be closer to release than any of the above non-Mario Kart titles for 2014.

Zelda, Chibi-Robo, Pikmin, Nano Assault, Starfox... Well there are a lot.

Several Moon Signs are spread through the whole game.

The ones I've noticed-

-When P-Star first mentions the entrances to Kahkoo-regah, he quotes the famous Legend of Zelda line- "It's a secret to everybody."
-Blue is a walking meme-o-dex- "Cool story, bro." "Mind. Blown." etc
-Wonder Red's stock combo closely resembles that of Joe's from Viewtiful Joe.
-Numerous vehicle designs are based on those from Bayonetta.
-Green's gun, Christine Daaé, is named after a character from the classic novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra.
-Christine Daaé's upgraded form closely resembles the Super Famicom light gun peripheral, the Super Scope.
-Luka Alan Smithee wears the same scarf as his Bayonetta namesake. Alan Smithee is the pseudonym used by movie directors to dissasociate themselves from their work.
-Wonder Gamer's helmet is of course a Nintendo Famicom.
-Vorkken's line which begins with "Join me, and together we will rule the galaxy as-" is lifted verbatim from The Empire Strikes Back.
-Blue slices a falling Neo Mu pipe in two while the camera and music replicates Raiden's iconic Ray finisher from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
-The 'Lost City of Lowrule' is almost certainly a pun on 'Hyrule' from the Legend of Zelda games.
-Wonder Pink's whip is fashioned from 'Belmont Alloy', a direct reference to the Castlevania games of which Kamiya is particularly fond.
-Operation 005C's boss is a loving recreation of the boxing game, Punch-Out!!
-Blue's line: "Better run home to mama now," is also one of Sarah Bryant's winquotes from Virtua Fighter 2.
-When Will's father pilots the plane toward the Geathjerk mothership in the 006-B flashback, the shape and angle of the ships closely resembles the Gradius cover art, another one of Kamiya's favourite games.
-OO6-B's shmup stage bears a striking resemblance to the 1992 Sammy arcade game, Viewpoint.
-Gimme's line: "It's come to this, you crying baby cockroaches!" refers to the eponymous Bayonetta's hypothetical worst fear.
-"Platinum Robo, Get Ready!" references the classic greeting from Sega's Space Harrier, and heralds W101's loving recreation of the same game. The Space Harrier section contains variants on the original bosses Squilla and Ida, and also repeats the original line "You're doin' great!" via Blue. It also strongly mirrors elements of Sega's Galaxy Force II.
-Blue's line: "Never tell me the odds!" is another line from The Empire Strikes Back.
-Blue's line: "Let's rock, baby!" was first made famous by Devil May Cry's Dante.
-"PLATINUM HEADBUTT TO THE MOON!" is paraphrased from Bayonetta.
-In another Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance gag, Vorkken's Meizerr smashes through an Envan during the escape from Jergingha, holding the Envan's power cell in its jaws, which it promptly crushes.
-The newspaper credits bears the slogan 'Redgrave Foundation Established', the Redgrave name being a Kamiya running gag beginning with the prototype RE4 which became Devil May Cry (the protagonist's name was Tony Redgrave), through to Bayonetta, belonging to Luka and Antonio Redgrave.

I'm sure there are many more I've missed or forgotten. What an amazing game.

I think my favorite reference is still when Blue did this:

That chapter also took place in Neo Mu.

Yup. I wonder how many people remember that the underwater city from Viewtiful Joe was called "Mu." :p

Also, the Team Wonderful cherry tree logo looks a lot like the Team Viewtiful logo.

I probably missed a ton of the more obscure Joe references because I haven't played it anywhere near as much as I'd have liked to.

For being a legendary city, I've never heard of Mu before VJ.

Well, in that case I'd also like to mention the "SHARK" submarines in Neo Mu.

For reference, I have the digital version. But it doesn't take longer than most of the games usually take, at least, it doesn't take long for it to become noticeable to me.

I have the retail version, and it wasn't bad for me. There were maybe two or three points the entire game where I consciously urged the game to hurry up and load.

There's a variation/reference to the old "Flock off Featherface, of you can stick around and find out the hard way", one of the more memorable lines from Dante in DMC1 and then repeated in Bayonetta.

I forget who was against exactly, it like "Buzz off, banana breath or stick around and feel the sting of my Valiantium Blade!"

Green: "Ah, a variation of a theme, eh Blue?"

Blue: "Stick a tube in it, fact-checker!"

let me just say I love the running gag of Blue looking dumb, Green calling him on it, and then Blue jumping on top of him. It's the kind of running joke you'd see in a Power Rangers/Super Sentai show.

Yep, that was great.

You're gonna love (secret character spoiler)
Poseman. I dunno if it's accurate, but I heard he even has a move that references Viewtiful Forever called Heroic Forever.

Secret Characters:
Wonder Bayonetta: Uses Unite Gun. Guide doesn't specify anything special about it but there has to be more to it. Also like Jeanne, is able to use Hero Time as leader without the Custom Block.
I read that her ability is that she can have multiple guns out at once. So when you draw a bigger shape, you get more guns as opposed to a super scope or something.

That makes sense. Her using a Bazooka would be wrong.

Will probably switch to her as my permanent gun user as soon as I get her. I hate the Bazooka form in this game.

Smash Bros. Brawl came out in February 2008, 2 years after the Wii released. I could see them pushing for Smash Bros. to come out early in the year, it might not be the first title in Q1 but it could be the last or the first title of Q2? I also think Nintendo is probably trying to get Zelda out for holiday 2014. We could have a release list like this next year: Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Smash Bros., Yarn Yoshi, X, Zelda, and that's just all titles that we know exist. We know that EAD is already working on another title too.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
We'll probably get a better idea of 2014's vague release windows if we get an end-of-year Nintendo Direct.

I'm optimistic, but it is probably what Nintendo is pushing for internally. There's no guarantee Zelda would come out in 2014, but I'd think they ARE pushing for it because it would be a big deal. Nintendo would have no qualms delaying it if it wasn't ready for the end of 2014 but either way, without Zelda the lineup for 2014 is pretty damn stacked, since every other game on that list is planned for 2014. Gonna stop taking the thread off topic now though.

Unfortunately, you can't use gun skills with her. Kinda lame considering
Jeanne
has access to all the sword skills.

AFAIK you can still use that exploit where you switch while buffering the input though.

"Before we go, a special surprise for all 12 of you in NA who bought Wonderful 101. If you do the Konami code on the title screen, you'll unlock a brand new Bayonetta 2 demo. Neat, huh?"

That is more than kind of lame. That's super lame if true.

I mean I could see how they wouldn't be compatible with multiple guns, but like Bazooka doing them should just take you down the the level where they work.

Something I just noticed about the
Punch Out
fight.
If you look at the game pad screen, Red moves every time P-Star counts a number, like he's on the edge of his seat. :p

's second in command, Chewgi

and company.

Immortalized forever..

Also can anyone help me with the requirements to unlock
Wonder Red (Emeritus)

I think I am missing only the Explorers and Drill of Iron bottlecap.
I could have sworn I got all the explorers in 005A I don't know if getting them all in 005B is also needed, I might have missed some there.

You're putting words in my mouth. I'm not saying it's likely they'd release in Q1, I'm saying you're making assumptions about them 100% not releasing in Q1. It's incredibly unlikely but it's not entirely impossible. That's all I was saying. I don't want to buy any bridges.

We'll know more by this time next month.

I think they are more realistic. I think they are pushing for a release lineup of something like this:

Bayonetta 2 - February
Mario Kart 8 - April
Yarn Yoshi - June
SMTxFE - August
X - October
Super Smash Bros. - November

I think they released WW HD because they knew it would be a while before Zelda Wii U. I don't think it is coming any earlier than holiday 2015, four years after Skyward Sword. Of course there will probably be a few more games coming next year, the "new IP" from Miyamoto, and probably a few collaboration projects.

Ok, so 99% sure they won't, with the 1% chance that they might

thanks for the input I suppose

ARRGH! I was doing 006-B and was enjoying it until the Wii U ducking crashed on me.

Oh well at least it didn't crash when I was getting the figure in 006-A.

So just Mario Kart 8 for the first quarter from Nintendo? Doesn't sound very likely. Bayonetta 2 looks like one of the most finished games of 2014 by the way so there's that I guess.

Bayonetta 2 - February
Mario Kart 8 - April
Yarn Yoshi - June
SMTxFE - August
X - October
Super Smash Bros. - November

This would work if we knew the whole lineup for 2014 but this is never the case with Nintendo. Just how many 2013 games we knew a year ago for example? Some of the games you listed are probably good candidates for 2015 while we'll see some unannounced for 2014.

I think if you charge your meter with Unite Camp in the loading screen you'll bring that bar charge into the actual level.

Not sure how useful it is but it's interesting

finished the game and now trying to get all of the secret characters that i can but i got a few questions

How exactly do the rank ups work? seems to me that you get them after using a character's unite attack but i want to know what requirements you need to
increase your health bar

also, what are some of the differences between the difficulty levels?
on easy, i got no mention of the kahkoo-regah, but normal pointed them out to me

thanks in advance!

Fun fact: If you get hit during the
Punch Out
boss battle and want to retry it to get through it without taking damage so you can unlock
Luka
, too goddamn bad, you have to restart that whole level and redo the prior boss fight and
weird lava section
first.

I am not fucking impressed.

I pre-ordered from Newegg to take advantage of no-tax, free shipping, and a six dollar off promo, but it still hasn't shipped. It's not even in stock at the moment. I'm tempted to just cancel and buy from te store.

Couldn't you just

That's probably what the game wants you to do given the character it unlocks along with the other achievements it's grouped with

(Hasn't played that Kahgoo-Regah yet)

I decided to do some levels on easy to flesh out the easy row for the trophy screen. After I did the levels in easy I switched to medium, but I can't view my normal run scores in the operation select screen popup even after I switched to normal difficulty via the bottom screen. Is this permanent?

I had 0 interest in this, as I'm not really a fan of modern day beat em ups, and haven't enjoyed a Platinum game to date.

I downloaded the demo on my new Wii U, and, surprisingly, had a blast. Do you guys think that I'll enjoy the full game based on the demo? My main problem with Platinum games is (1) usually, very short lenght, (2) very few enemies, which you're using the same moves on over and over.

length is definitely not an issue. lack of move variety is even less of an issue. just watch some of Saur's videos lol.

Man, I have to pretty much have to do a stage twice.
Once to get the feel, and then the 2nd time to get a semi-decent score.
As long as I get a bronze, I'm ok.

And wow, the length of the stages are really something.
I thought the Prologue was ok, but then 1-A (only other chapter I completed) increased like 5x in length.
I can only assume it increases more and more.

Also, in 1-A, there are a bunch of people that are across the bridge.
I can't get anywhere but the river.
I tried using the glider, but that didn't help either.
How am I supposed to get them?

You have to take the long way around. After the part with the football helmet, go left instead of right.

(1) game is really long. It takes nearly 18hours for one playthrough. Also this game is infinitely replayable. There is so much content to unlock like secret characters or new unite morphs.
(2) there are so many unite morphs you can use for combat, i sometimes get overwhelmed.

imho this game doesn't need a sequel, simply because it is already in this game.

I noticed that I didn't get notifications in my 1st replay, so I would think so.

Yeah, but think of the plot potential: a theoretical plotline could be
preventing a militaristic rise of an earth faction that uses the wonder masks as oppressive weapons and were the origin of the greater galactic coalition, and you must defeat them to prevent the original timeline from occurring again.

Of course, it was possible that
the GEATHJERK in the original timeline were also evil and the coalition were good guys cleaning up the scum of the universe but if that were the case Jergingha seems oddly hateful for something that he had coming to him.
In this case the plotline is
freeing the planets that are controlled by the remains of the Geathjerk
while also most likely dealing with some sort of new threat.

If it's the former, it might not be doable because it would naturally have a far darker tone.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
