Dunno how I feel about the O instead of X for stuff after that being the controls for messages and stuff since Demon's Souls.

But I like the new UI. The new equipment system is very WRPG-ish and seems like it'll be faster and easier to find the weapon and item you want instead of scrolling through lists. New GUI also looks nice. Dunno if that's built for PC or if they wanted to rebuild it for consoles but it is remarkable and improvement just from these 13 minute Youtube video.

I did notice (when they reach the forest) that you can gain Estus from a drop. Seems like a longer co-op session means you don't have to conserve your Estus. Nice. But since you still can't turn Invasions off (in before "CASUAL" and other insults), I doubt I'll be using that and will be playing offline if that Hollow invasion is true so...

To go back to the GUI: It seems the Hollow co-op players health bars move to the far left if they aren't in sight. Which is good. Gives a good heads up if you need to (still need to?) heal them with your Estus before they possibly die.

Yeah it needs to be less bright. The flame in DaS1 (and DeS?) worked because it was almost translucent to where it could be safely ignored and wasn't in your face.

I'm hyped though. Outside of them still not giving me a toggle for when I want to do co-op and not be invaded and then go through the game with invasions on and knowing what I'm doing, they're at least revamping the series in some ways to improve it and I like those improvements.

The new HUD also popping in and out when not needed is nice. Should help Plasma owners.

It will most likely still be X for western releases. A lot of Japanese games (ones I have imported anyway) use O instead of X for the confirm/action button and that generally gets switched for western releases.

it's O on japanese ps3 and adjusts on whatever region your console is from (western consoles have X for messages O for running/jumping) - nothing to worry about.

With the promise of a decent PC port this time around do we know if there will be refined keyboard+mouse support? The mouse acceleration killed any chance for that control scheme in DS1. Strafing while unlocked would be a megaton.

I can easily see myself using an indefinitely-unlocked control scheme if I had access to that level of precision. Here's to hoping.

Yeah, it seems like there will be items that give steady health regeneration, as well, so there seem to be quite a few ways to heal this time around.
Anyway.

Fragrant/Sweet-Smelling Sticky Liquid

It temporarily gives your right-handed weapon magical power.

So, sure sounds like it. ;)

Looks really good, but I'm gonna need to try and contain myself from watching too much footage. I still regret watching early Japanese live streams for Dark Souls 1 and spoiling all the zones :(. Gotta go in fresh for this one.

Loving the scenery and graphic detail, but what the fuck is up with that cheerful upright running/walking animation like he's about to break into a dance routine cutscene in a jrpg? I want my character to be leaning forward looking all exhausted as he walks into a new area towards certain death. :/

I'm worried about how easy all the enemies shown so far look to deal with.

I'm planning my backlog clearing schedule out so that when this game is out, I'll be playing this game and ONLY this game. Not even portable or retro games, either.

It pains me to see how far launch is for this game, though. There's a lot to play until March, but still ; _ ;

Well the player is playing as a female character so maybe that's it.

Is it just me or is there some weird lighting/blur or something going on with the player character? Almost like they look detached from the world. Also, that walking/running animation doesn't seem that great. Everything else looks good though, inventory seems much better.
 
So white phantoms have their own estus flasks now? Interesting.

Like others had mentioned, I wish there was some sort of friendly fire. Just being able to knock people around rather than hurt them would be fine I think.
 
Some stuff people on Reddit Noticed:

-You can light/save at a bonfire at any time, even with summons.
-Phantoms are able to interact with the bonfire?
-It seems like summons can loot enemies. These items are separate than the host's
-White phantoms are unaffected by the host's estus.
-White phantoms can use lifestones and estus.
-Different weapon types: dagger, short sword, long sword, curved blade, cleaver?, baton?, rapier, axe, maul, spear?, club, whip, blowgun?, and a bow.
-Backstabs take time to initiate, the grab must come in contact with them in order to execute the maneuver. An enemy can escape if they, for say, jump out of range before you can grab them.
-Right at the beginning, you can see a merchant.
-At 0:12 seconds, you can see the Longsword strong attack is the running slash, not the stab.
-The Pyromancer set is returning. You can see the bloodstain ghost wearing it at 0:41 and 3:20.
-Gestures menu (at 2:24) show old and new gestures: Point Forward, Bow, Wave, Joy, Hurrah!, a shrug of some sorts, and the last one kinda looks like a "watch out, we got a badass here" thingy.
-Human Effigies restore your humanity, but do not recover any missing health.
-At 3:10 beards!
-New autosave indicator. A scroll being written on. Looks kinda annoying IMO.
-At 5:06, when the trees get in front of the camera, they become transparent, so you can still see what's happening.

Looks great. I'm not going to mention the frame rate yet, but at release it needs to be rock solid. There's no room for 20 FPS drops - this is technically the fourth iteration. I truly hate how this series gets a free pass on frame rate all the time yet it's VERY gameplay intensive. FPS matters greatly.

edit: also no PC release is a bad choice.

This time around you might actually have to hold a torch to see where you're going instead of just glowing for some reason. GET HYPE.

That may change. I asked Tanimura about the fact that you don't have an Augite of Souls (or whatever they call it in Dark Souls) and he said they're still working on adding some of the lighting. I don't know... I have a feeling it's going to stay the way it is in the beta, though.
