That would be so evil

"We're all about open platform and user choice except.... we're not"
I'm not saying they are going to do it, but I'd like to point that being "all about open platforms" and "being on every platform" are not the same thing.

In fact, someone could even argue that releasing console versions would be the act that truly contradicts the claim of being "all about open platforms".

Yeah it is true that they're not obligated to anything, but to me did all their new stuff always heavily focus on choice. the user is free to choose if he wants to use Steam OS, use the Steam controller or a mouse / keyboard, what steambox he wants etc. Restricting Half life 3 in such a way would feel weird and a bit hypocritical to me.

SteamOS is a free OS, I'm not sure I see the problem. If it won't cost you anything and it won't affect your gameplay experience, does it really matter?

Very good question. What would you like to see? I for one am of course hopeful that they can reinvent the genre somehow, but it's not realistic to think that they will reinvent all aspects of the genre of course. So the question becomes, will we want something very similar to HL2 with some added elements or do we want something similar to the best shooters of today (and which are they?), with added inventions and Half-Life-ish elements?

For example, I really, really, really don't want a Bioshock Infinite with a Half-Life twist. Dare I say it; I would rather have a game similar to CoD SP than Bioshock Infinite. The shooting and movement of that game is just so offputting and boring to me.

One idea could be to have episode 3 to be in the same vein as HL2 and then HL3 to incorporate all of the new ideas they may have...

Of course, it seems like they may have just skipped over ep3.

a bit off-topic maybe:

what were those weird youtube videos counting down to anyway? (the ones suspected of being part of a Valve ARG)

And the mark has disappeared. If this firm put it up without Valve's say-so... why? Is it that much of a publicity coup if the firm's name doesn't even show up until you expand the mark and read closely?

Lol, beaten by a solid minute.
