The Wonderful 101 |OT| Diplomacy has failed

There never should have been a demo imo.

The full game's opening prologue is pure joy, and introduces you to the core elements gently, succinctly, while working them smartly and seamlessly into a fantastic introductory level. The demo just kind of throws a bunch of bewildering toys at your feet and says "Here you fucking go then." I think it did more bad than good in attempting to entice fence-sitters.

I was lucky enough to play the full game in its entirety before ever trying the demo, and I'm glad I did.

pretty much, if there was ever a game where a demo hurt more then helped, its this one.

I avoided the demo, and instantly picked up on it. For what that matters

I still don't have any secret characters yet. :( I think I'm closest to unlocking
Immorta
, but that's my least favorite morph, honestly. I didn't even know what it was supposed to do. I have like one bottlecap left for unlocking
Vorkken
, but it's the damn complete all the secret mission one, and god knows I'm not even close to that. I'm playing on hard so I can at least possibly find some secret ones (I heard some Kahkoo-Regahs aren't visible unless you play on hard)...

*sigh* I think I'll be taking a break for WWHD and then come back to this later. Which is exactly what I did for Bayonetta, if I recall correctly. Played it twice, put it away, came back to it in like a month or two to try and 100%.

I'm starting to wonder what the odds are that when they're bringing the curtain down on the Wii U, people will be naming this as the best game on the console.

Well that sucked. Just spent an hour going for Platinum on 3-1. Plats all the way till the end, got Gold on the final two Megangs. I thought, no problem, I'll just restart. But, uh oh, the place where I finished off the Megang just so happened to be the Wonder Mark spawn location. Took me right to the results screen. I cried.

Not very good

The console will have the sequel to Bayonetta after all

Well I think this is going to secure it's place with a God Hand-like cult-following while being bashed by critics.

To be fair I don't think it's been as completely misunderstood as God Hand. Some of the reviews have been questionable sure but nothing as ridiculous as the IGN God Hand abomination.

The important thing is that most people who play the game seem to really love it by the time they see the credits roll. It's really cool to see people start off not knowing what to think about the game or even downright hating it slowly turning around until they're screaming GOTY when the game is over.

It will definitely stand the test of time, sure it's a shame that the game isn't being played by more people but what can you do? It is what it is!

Yeah no. If there hadn't been a demo I would have been clueless about what to do for the first half an hour of the game do I wouldn't have been able to appreciate it.

Same here, the demo was like a practice mode for me before getting the game.

9-C is the only truly evil part as far as Pure Platinum rank goes. That ship section with no damage, ughhhhhhhh!

Wait, didn't someone say here that those sections don't count when getting hit?

I'd at least get more custom blocks. Some of them are game changers

and if you really want an easy time unlock some secret characters and Unite Big. Alot of the PP runs I've seen on youtube are making use of one or the other or both. (Immorta Unite Big is fucking broken as shit. lol)

You damn right.

MoMK was amazing in Bayonetta and it's amazing here

How to unlock the unite big? That would be really cool to pull of vs
Jerghinga's final form

These two posts made me sad that we may never see a true sequel to God Hand. That was the first game that had the kick ass platinum touch. It is a personal favorite of mine because it draws SO MUCH from Hokuto no Ken while parodying it.

I have four games that are tied in the number one spot. MGS3, God Hand, Bayonetta, and after playing it, W101.

BTW guys, please refrain saying stuff like
W101 goes full gainax and all, as I feel that it may make people expect more than it is. I was expecting the endgame to have unite morphs as big as the sun while they took turns throwing planets at each other. Plus, I constantly told myself "when will the really crazy shit happen?" when playing 009. Kinda ruined the experience for me. Still the craziest thing I have seen in a game though

Quick question - what's the advantage of using
Wonder Bowgun from Immorta? I'm know it's probably doing something special but I can't figure it out.

shhhhh....

hold my hand. look into my eyes. I will buy this game today and experience the genius.

High five!!!

I have 98 of the Wonderful 100 but I am having issues finding the last 2. Is there a way to tell which ones you have already so I can find out which 2 I'm currently missing?

I caved and bought this last night. I was turned off by the reviews, but have been checking in on this thread for the last week or so and it sounds great. It is installed and ready to go, so with fear and trepidation I will start it up tonight. Anything I need to know?

I did not play Viewtiful Joe. I have Pikmin 3. I have not played Bayonetta. I am not good at action games normally.

Huge AOE damage and chance to charm enemies, which either incapacitates them or makes them attack non charmed enemies.

I just started playing with her the other day and it's been hard to tell exactly as she kills things so quick.

Don't be afraid to start on Easy or even Very Easy then. Try to get a feel for the game and have fun experimenting, there's alot to take in at first but it will click soon enough.

You can use either the right analog stick or the touchscreen to draw the shapes, most people prefer the right stick but you should probably try both to see what works best for you.

Oh and absolutely make sure you purchase Unite Guts and Unite Spring from the WonderMart after the prologue level. Those are essential, learn to use them, they're basically your block and dodge move (activated with ZL and ZR respectively).

Enjoy!

Thanks much! I hate admitting in games that I need to play on "easy" but I think I will choose easy (not the lowest one) so I don't ragequit after 5 minutes..

I agree with that. People saying it's on the level of stuff like Gurren lagann are off the mark. TW101 gets crazy
, but it's nowhere near the level of mechs throwing galaxies at each other.

Also, have you played Asura's Wrath? I'd argue it's more crazy than TW101.

Since GTAO isn't working, decided to go out and buy this. Meh god. I'm in love with this game. Still trying to get used to the controls. I'm using the touch pad, do people general prefer using the second joystick to draw, or do you use your finger to draw on the touchpad?

I feel like the 2nd joystick is a lot quicker, for things like making the sword, the fist, or collecting new citizens. I also have a hard time processing the change from playing with the joystick then using my right hand to draw. Two joysticks seems like an easier thing. Just curious what most prefer though.

Don't worry about it. 'Normal' for character action games is usually more similar to hard in other games, which is fine if you're accustomed to the genre (and the game is already pretty unique already), but for newcomers it'll be a much less frustrating experience to go for easy, I think. Besides, you can bump it in when you finish the game (or if you find easy too easy).

Yeah, I think the fact that you don't start out with Spring and Guts was a very bad decision by Platinum.
Yeah, maybe. Kind of like the evade move in Rising. Should be part of the default repertoire (or unlocked directly after a certain part of the story mode).

Kamiya himself uses the right-stick. Take that as you will :0 I much much prefer it as well, much faster than touchscreen.

I use the touch screen for the hanglider, the bomb and all the cutscene morphs. The really big morphs aren't doable using the touchscreen imo

In my defence I just said it gets crazier than Bayonetta :p

Which I think it does, anyway.

So I'm fighting the final boss right now, and I'm stuck...

He in "planetary destruction form," and the Platinum Robo and crew are standing on an energy platform in front of him. He keeps alternating missiles, spiky balls, and hand lasers, and I can't break through the shield in front of him. Every time I attempt an attack, P-Star tells me I need to gather more allies, but I never see any additional enemy robos to recruit. Am I missing something??

Yeah you can't damage him while he has a unite morph out so you have to find openings. You can only use Unite Guts on the fist or hammer, you have to dodge his other morphs.

If you don't have them already, try getting Hero Time and Hero Counter. Hero Time essentially gives you witch time from Bayonetta, so you can dodge something like his boomerang for example and get a lot of time to punish him for it. Hero Counter is the same as the item that lets you parry in Bayonetta, so you can punish his moves that you can't block (like the sword, whip, or claws).

If you don't have enough money for them, mix some credit cards. They make the fights against him a lot of fun.

You're using guts on the stomps right? Because that should cause them to balance on two legs allowing you to knock them over.

The easiest thing is to just draw a big hammer and attack but if you're low on meter just do Wonder-Cyclone or just loop Wonder Rising followed by the hammer attack in the air. Once their shell cracks you can use whatever against them.

If you have Hero Counter you can parry the flame pillars, so that makes fighting two at once a lot more manageable.
Wow, hero time sounds like a game changer. Thanks for the advice! :)

There are 3 barriers that you need to break through during that fight. At first you're by yourself so he will send out some robots, kill those and you'll reach 50 members. Make the biggest fist you can make (need all 50 so make sure no one is knocked out) and punch the first barrier. When it shatters the cycle repeats except the second barrier requires a 100 man punch and the third barrier a 200 man punch.

Are you using the biggest possible morphs you can use?

Remember, the morph sizes are 10, 20, 50, 100, and (should I spoiler this?)
200
.

possible for me. Without I would never made it through. Really handy

Ok, that worked but
in the next form, after I knocked the red dots on his arms out, I can't get a hit in.

I only used
wonder gun for his legs
. But maybe there is a better solution. I also died quite a few times on the last boss today (on normal)

I might have found a glitch. So...did a team attack, where I made them into a big fist. Thing is, the big fist didn't start auto attacking like its supposed to. It just sat there, and flowed red. So I made another small fist with the remaining troops and the BIG fist then starts auto attacking and swinging. Instead of dispersing it stop, and just sits there again. Maybe I missed a control?

Is there a way to force a group attack to disperse? Don't want to move forward, because then I'll lose like 90% of my troops.

LOL WTF. So i switched to clockwork (I think this is why it was bugged out, there is a cog near by when I did the auto attack). Keep in mind, I was using wonder-red when I made the first (he was the leader) - but for some reason I think the cog being near by made it twack out. Anyways, now that I made clockwork a leader, anytime he runs around the big fist is now apart of him and is swinging erratically.

Do you think much like King’s Story that this that this game can be successful just over time as sells slowly come in? Nintendo games seem to have such long legs compared to other consoles games. I want there to be a sequel, but I am worried about the sales.

Yep. It's completely broken. The big fist just drags on the floor, and swings at nothing when I do the sprint (when clockwork is the leader). If I switch to another leader, the big fist just sits there broken and doesn't follow me. Sigh. I hope this level ends soon, because this is is really frustrating. My numbers have dwindled because of this, making the fights harder.

EDIT: I'm on Mission 008. Can I just quit to the operation room? Will it let me reload Mission 008?

EDIT: Maybe it's the multiple morph thing? Is there a way to cancel a unite morph?

Not yet, I have all of Normal PP'd except 9-C and I'm currently working my way through Hard while collecting everything. I haven't even unlocked 101% Hard yet, but I have 90 bottle caps so I'm close to unlocking everything.

For the eel attack, none of his hand movements count until you see the symbols (kanji or whatever) show up. After that he will do 4 hand motions which will telegraph the 4 eel attacks. Watch for the screen shake for your cue to jump if he swipes his hands horizontally and just keep dashing either left or right if he does a vertical motion. It's fairly easy once you get used to it!

I have %101 Hard unlocked, but I don't want to go through it until I beat this Kahkoo-Regah.

Yeah I noticed that its only after the Kanji appear that its when he firsts telegraphs his attacks, but he never stops making hand motions after that, so I kind of wondered if I only had to pay attention right before the screen shakes or after the initial hand motion.

I will try to beat it again tomorrow. Also any hints on getting platinum stars against him? Unlike Giga Gah Goojin he gains defense really quickly and can hardly get any stars off him.

Pause the game. The far right tab should have an option called Retry. It'll reload the game without restarting the entire mission.

This is what I ended up doing, actually. I got a lot of good shots in when
he backed up to shoot boulders at me.

I experienced Wonderful 101 and Gurren Lagann for the first time in the same month. September-October 2013 may be the single most epic month of my life (entertainment-wise).

If there was any justice in the world, this game would have its own Saturday morning cartoon.

Never really focused on getting stars against him honestly. I think they only way is to either counter punch or after he summons the eel.

Finally back in after about a week, I expected a some readjustment time.
But Operation 008 went by rather quickly though, so I guess I'm good to go.
The boss fight was so long though.

I hate Goojins.
