You can add me to the list of folks with 337 that just gets the blue/red blinky every time I attempt the update. No bricking, thankfully, but the system won't play any of the "new" games without it.

Debating doing the exchange with Tommo or waiting to see if a user-capable fix is released. I really don't want to do an exchange after I found a solid screen protector for it and went through the trouble of applying it dust-free.

picked up the mega pack and updated fine.

-colors do look more vibrant
-no idea how to save/load anything
-no sound coming out of system when running through HDMI :(
otherwise playing Garou and LB1 is awesome

The NGX emulates the AES/MVS memory card so it works exactly the same. After you press A to load the game hold down all 4 buttons until the memory card menu appears. Format the card. You have to do this for each game. On most games, if you decide not to continue it will ask if you want to save the game so you can start at the same point with a new set of credits. Games like Baseball stars 2 will save after each inning.

While the HDMI output is indeed improved, the AV output is now atrocious and unusable for me. I'll take the tradeoff , but the base unit goes back in the closet. The handheld is fine and I'll just use my WiiU for my NeoGeo bigscreen gaming.

Sent my system to Tommo on Friday and it's arriving there today. I'll update once I get it back. Hoping for a quick turnaround... and I'm hoping that sending my system to them in my Mega Pack game case wasn't a mistake.

Here's an update from their fb page... Nice to know they are willing to reimburse the shipping costs.

Update on v337 Firmware and the Game Packs Updates:
The issue with firmware v337 and the Game Packs only affects about 5% of systems purchased. We discovered this issue late last week when users first reported it. We have been working all weekend on the best solution and hope to present it early this week. Here’s a few things we do know:

1. The overwhelming NGX systems in distribution are version v370 and are not affected.
2. Any users required to send software or hardware back to complete their update (regardless of version number) will NOT be charged for any shipping. We will work with any users who has already sent a unit to us at their expense to correct the situation.
3. We want to get a 100% workable solution to you as quickly as possible and we will.
4. Before contacting customer service please review the video we posted on the firmware update process –many users who thought the update was not working, completed the update after reviewing the update steps in the video.
5. Please do not ask for an RMA via Facebook. Contact Customer service and they will obtain the necessary information we need to help you.
6. This issues applies to owners of both the NGX Handheld System and the Game Packs only. Please contact Customer Service if you only own the NGX Handheld System and have other issues.

oh nice thanks! I'll prob still never beat Dr. Muckly though :(

turns out my problem with audio was just the HDMI cable. If they can fix the screen tearing and allow me to add credits then I am good!

Yes, fix the minor screen tearing, add extra credits, add filters and also allow uncensored versions. Otherwise I'm loving Mega Pack vol. 1(Savage Reign is mad fun)!

My wish list for Mega Pack vol 2 is...

ViewPoint
Wind Jammers
Prehistoric Island 2
Last Blade 2
Samurai Shodown 4
Rage of the Dragons
Karnov's Revenge
Power Instinct/Matrimelee
King of Fighters 2000
Waku Waku 7
Kabuki Klash
Neo Mr Do
Magical Drop
Neo Bomberman
Puzzle de Pon

I think I'm an idiot for not getting the mega pack but I love these boxes and I want them all!

That alone would make me get this thing.

Got my Mega Pack this past weekend and performed the update without any problems - bought a second stick as well and have been having a ton of fun playing 2player Shock Troopers and Garou. Really looking forward to seeing what's in store for the next Mega Pack.

My picks for Mega Pack vol. 2 would be;

. Aggressors of Dark Kombat
. Breakers/Breakers Revenge
. Crossed Swords
. Far East of Eden: Kabuki Klash
. King of Fighters '97
. The Last Blade 2
. Magical Drop II/III
. Metal Slug 3
. Ninja Commando
. Power Instinct Matrimelee
. Rage of the Dragons
. Samurai Showdown IV
. Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad
. Strikers 1945 Plus
. The Super Spy

My system was delivered to Tommo last Tuesday (2nd) and I received everything back and updated on the Friday the 5th. Pretty quick turnaround considering it was a holiday week. Overall I'm happy with their service regarding the firmware issue and I'm really diggin' the Mega Pack. Looking forward to see what is in store down the road.

Is the Neo Geo X worth getting if I already have a Neo Geo CD? NGCD software generally isn't exorbitantly high priced, and I don't mind the load times too much. I don't think I would use the handheld on the go very often, as I'm primarily an at-home gamer--it would probably stay in its docking cradle 95% of the time.

haha woody you just answered the crap outta that man...it's a nice emu based thing for those of us scrubs who lack AES's, and if you don't mind the time on the CD loading there's not much for you here unless you change your mind on portables.

it's at home use is good for me cause of my uploader smoothing shit out but its still lacking, and the thrill of using a lighter version of that classic stick is likewise gonna be hollow for you...if you see it for crazy cheap and wanna try it, i say go for it but otherwise there's not much it does that'd work for you m'man

FYI: It was 7-8 months ago so I have no idea how to find any of it, but 337 units can easily be re-flashed on Windows XP via USB cable using a foreign-language program and an internal microSD backup. If you don't want to bother sending it in for repairs it might be worth digging into.

Was the speeding up gameplay part of this firmware update or was it there before? If so I never really notice until recently.

Yeah, I figured as much. It's just the idea of new Neo Geo hardware has me all starry-eyed. I wish the X turned out to be a perfect little system, but as it is, I guess I'll wait for an awesome deal before picking one up. *sigh*

Didn't know where else to post this, since there isn't an official Neo Geo thread (or is there?). Went to the Seattle Retro Gaming Expo over the weekend and filled a few holes in the NGCD collection.

Dunk Dreams (bought from Chris Kohler)
KoF '94
KoF '96
Samurai Spirits
Samurai Shodown III

Only two tables at the show had any Neo Geo stuff. Wish it was more prevalent. One table did have a Neo Geo X available, but their prices were generally kinda high, so I didn't even inquire about it. =p

yeah next to an RGB/upscaler thread, Neo Geo is the biggest one we're missing...good haul man, and buying one from Kohler's collection no less!

we totally need a neo thread so i can get more impressions on CD loading times, ive always wondered how much of what i'd heard was exaggerated

In the next year I plan to get a Neo CD. I promise to report back when I do... that is unless I buy that Viewpoint in the local shop for $280. Then all bets are off and I will fade into my techno-jazz isometric hole for that same year's time trying to beat it on one credit. :p

It's not exaggerated. It's bad.

My fixed 337 unit came back from Tommo yesterday. They didn't replace it and I am glad for that, since getting the right-sized Garmin screen protector on there was a pain. Everything works fine. Played a bunch of Blazing Star last night.

Also noticed you can toggle two display filter modes; I guess that's what I'd call them; but only while the unit is in the dock. Start a game, pop open the dock, and press L2. I think it toggles between the old display, which looked better on composite, and the new, which looks better over HDMI.

I'm glad SNK is stepping up and protecting the integrity of their IP's and all, but as they're cutting off one bootleg-ass hardware maker, they're getting in bed with bootleg Chinese F2P games and Thai MOBA's. Don't they have someone that can look after their best interests in terms IP representation, like brand manager? This is exactly the same shit that got them in trouble with Aruze and the buy out.

Sounds like Tommo botched the license by not being forthright to SNKP as to how they were going to handle the emulation. This is probably the result.

All speculation on my part of course. Even with the updates and new releasese it's still a disappointing product.

Thank goodness for WiiVC.

Ugh, so does that mean the games will drop in price, or snag them all now before they disappear?

Well, it says they must stop selling them immediately and to pull the sticks from store shelves.

I just placed an order for an extra stick and the Mega Pack. Hopefully I can update my system. I'm guessing if I can't, I'm shit-outta-luck?

What's your firmware version? If it's 370 you're good to go.

I planned to get that mega pack but then I realized I was shit out of luck because I had fw 3.37. What a bunch of bullshit. So I did myself a favor and got this instead

What's the firmware issue that you guys are talking about?

To play the Mega pack, you need to update fw that comes with the cartridge. Problem is, only Neo Geo X handheld with fw 3.7 can be updated. If you bought the NGX at launch as I did, your NGX fw is 3.37 and there is no way to update it, which mean you can not play the Mega pack cartridge. The only way to solve this is sending the 3.37 NGX to Tommo and they will send you a new NGX with 3.7 fw but the process takes weeks and you pay for shipping and handling.

What?? What kind of dumb ass stupidity is this? You can still play the smaller packs right?

Nope. All the latest released game packs require fw 5.00 and, as I said, if you have launch NGX you can't play any new games. This bullshit shows just how amateur Tommo really is. They half-assed everything: hardware, emulation, support etc. No wonder SNKP don't wanna have anything to do with them no more.

This makes no damn sense. How did you launch guys get it updated then?

Nope. Can't play those either without the update.

Wow this is terrible. I'm pretty sure I have a first batch system too. What a terrible product. I've put off buying the games cuz I figure a price drop would happen, but man this blows.

Need to send the console to Tommo and they will send back an update-able NGX but you need to pay shipping fee and everything. So I didn't bother.

People with 3.37 should e-mail Tommo ASAP to check. usa@neogeox.com

I had a 3.37 unit, sent it in (they paid the shipping cost) and what I received back was the EXACT same unit updated to the latest firmware. How do I know it's the same? Same Garmin screen protector still on the front and the same hairline scratch on the back.

At that time, they posted on their Facebook that they were looking into a workaround so that systems didn't need to be shipped. I don't know if they ever did because once mine came back I was happy with it.

BTW, owners with the 5+ firmware, if you haven't already, plug it into the base unit, connect it to a TV with HDMI, pop open the base unit's clam shell, and press the right shoulder button. When plugged into the base unit, the graphics mode toggle changes what I can only describe as "don't look like crap on HDMI" mode.

Granted, it's not perfect. But I certainly have gotten my money's worth.
