Oh my god
Vorken's thumbs-down on his transformation.

I'm losing it.

Yeah, I kinda lost my shit right there too.

Here is a pic I snapped of the events during that time. Only look AFTER you are done with the entire operation. I thought it was pretty sweet.

It's funny, I kinda anticipated it the moment that scene began, but was still floored when it actually happened.
"Come on, do it, do it, do it!" .... *Vorkken does it*
"GTFO! P*, you fun-loving bastards! This game, wow!"

any tips for the boss at the start of 6B?

I just can't get the recruit it thing to work consistently.

The device sends out a shockwave. So if you hit the device when no enemies are around then it won't do anything. Wait for most of them to get near you and then touch the device.

thanks for the tips, guys.

For some reason I thought you just needed to circle the enemies. I completely misinterpreted the on-screen message.

Fuuuuuccckkkkk! Those final QTEs! Oh shit! What a fucking ride! Non stop. I'm going to perfect my ways through Normal again and give the Hard difficulty a go.

Damn!

At first, don't attack the regular guys. Concentrate on Laambo until he drops the radio thing. If you pick it up and didn't kill any soldiers you should be able to get 20 at once, after that keep attacking Laambo with the morph until he drops another one to recruit some more, after that you can try to beat him normally, and also recruit the little ones if you see they are about to explode.

Just finished the game and it seems that
Kamiya achieved his dream of making a Starfox game even though it's disguised as the final parts of The Wonderful 101

Overall, this game is amazing. If I were to rate it, I'd put it at about 8.5-9 with potential to be better if the frustrating hard to see/control parts were fixed up.

Now to play casually on easy, and try out my new morphs.

Edit: I need Vorkken's theme in Smash 4! It's so good.

To sum up:

Positives:
  • This is the most variation and fun I've had with a video games for at least a year or maybe two. The main gameplay is so interesting and complex, and it's introduced/teached at great pace with little or non unneccesary handholding. It's easy to get the hang of the gestures as you increasingly build up your arsenal by finding new characters and leveling them up, as they're introduced gradually (I never played the demo). The parallell/serial combo system is amazing, and it's stunning they came up with it so late as it feels so integral to the game.
  • Add to that all the other gimmicky sections, the EPIC boss fights. Hell, even the QTEs are fun to execute and watch in this game. [ending spoiler:]
PRESS A TO PROTECT EARTH! lmfao
. Even failing them is fun ffs.
  • A lot of effort must have been made - and tons of work must have been put in -- to make the game so thorough. There's so many little quirky details, small twists, and this and whatnots that add to the experience.[ending spoiler:]
They even put bonus missions in the credits...
  • The humour in the game, a long with the music, connects with me like the good old Monkey Island and DOTT games used to back in the days. The characters are (almost without exceptions [not really a spoiler spoiler:]
I'm looking at you Pink and Luka
) funny, the puns, references and jokes all bear witness of Kamiya's great sense of humour.
  • And the OST will be spinning in my head for a looong time. Fantastic.

Downsides?

  • Well, I wasn't the biggest fan of the indoor sections, and some of the platforming sequences (the beginning of 007 e.g.). There was also some annoying insta-deaths that came out of nowhere, usually falling of something.
  • I also feel like they repeated some of the enemies / gimmicks a bit [BOSS 005 and 008 spoilers:]
The boss in 008 was a bit of a let down because I did the same thing in 005
    .
  • The game is a bit rough, probably because they put so much stuff in there, so I experienced a freeze or two and the occasional glitch along the way. But the roughness is also what makes it so lovable in other respects.
  • I am not sure how I feel about the "instant continue / shit score" design. I think the endless instant continues should have been reserved for easy/very easy. On normal I would have prefered to actually die, or at least have to do more stuff over again (like staring boss fights all over). It could be balanced with letting you keep more of the score (at least not getting auto-consolation prize). I am not sure though.

Best part is: I know there is still a ton of stuff left to do! :D

Overall: GOTY/10

YES, that's the show!! I have no idea how many years its been since I last saw it. I had totally forgotten the name, and was searching for it yesterday. Even has wonder in the title =D

How did you find it?

In this very detailed and very thorough anime encyclopedia.

I would shit my pants if Tables Turn makes it into there.

My body goes into hype mode when that song starts.

Oh god yes. I'm also a big fan of Riding the Linear Transport, so exciting.

I finally finished it over the weekend. What a ride it was. I can't count the times the game genuinely surprised me.

Probably shouldn't read this until you've at least beaten the game.
The Punch-out boss battles especially pulled the rug from under my feet, and were super fun. I don't remember where I read it, but when I heard this was originally going to be a Nintendo All-stars type of game, this boss battle suddenly made a lot of sense to me. Also a brain in a jar for a final boss. I'm sure there's a lot more I missed, but I wasn't watching out for this type of stuff until the Punch-out boss.

I did have a few problems with the game though. There were several times I just didn't know what I was doing wrong. Bosses that just seemed to last too long or minigames where I kept taking inexplicable damage. Luckily the game mixes things up enough so that one activity can't lead to too much frustration. There were also three instances where enemies seemed to glitch out on me. Two of those times with those weird turtle things. Their damage bar would just freeze, no matter how much damage I did to it. I'd have to fix it by jumping back to the last checkpoint. The same thing also happened once to one of those crab enemies a bit later in the game.
Another thing I feel like they should get commended for is the use of the second-screen. There were some genuinely clever uses that I feel Nintendo can be jealous of. For a game that played so much on tropes and clichés, it had a tremendous amount of heart and creativity. Easily one of the most exciting games I've played in years.

So, it's about 10 hours since I first sat down to keep playing a couple missions, and next thing I know it's... 10 hours later. I literally could not put down my controller.

I just finished the game.

HOLY SHIT

No fucking words. Shit. This is like the best game i've played in god knows how long. Such charm, such great characters, and awesome story, satisfying gameplay, awesome music, incredible pacing, awesome action, and great humor. The ending was fucking awesome and I found myself (last mission spoilers)
dying from laughing at the last QTE where they're all pushing the buttons too.
I just had the biggest smile on my face, and I am hard pressed to think of anything even remotely as enjoyable as my experience with this game.

I just always had the biggest smile on my face the whole time.

This game is like the ultimate package and so full of soul. I wish all games could be as satisfying as this, and by far this is my favorite Wii U and Platinum game, and probably one of my favorite games of all time. I don't have any words for how much this game just resonated with me, but I loved every second of it, and I can't even begin to praise it enough.

I don't know how you top something like this at all. Everything delivered. All the hype completely lived up to.

I can't stop gushing about this game, seriously. I LOVE IT.

Cool book. Did you search for a specific year?

Also more people are beating realising how great W101 is. For some odd reason it makes me happy. Unlike my friends who dont even want to play it since it is a kamiya game. Thanks to twitter, they now hate the guy.

I can't stop smiling. I seriously am just really happy right now. Can't wait to dive in for Hard!
I understand the feeling, felt like a child right after the ending. Amazing game.

(I'm waiting to have the last hidden character unlocked before tweeting Kamiya :p)

Just got back into playing this again tonight, have barely played since I beat the game.
Going to try and get an overall platinum on each operation on normal (fuck pure platinum though), did the Prologue and 1-A so far >_>

Is there a list somewhere of which heroes are found in each level? I'd like to have a little list as I go so I can have all 100 ready for starting on hard and doing all the collectables/bottle caps.

Oh, I've also noticed I've barely leveled up the gun and claw users.
I can't really see a good use for the claw though, beyond sections where it's required the fist and sword just seem so much better.

After my first evening with the wonderful 101 I was about ready to shelve it and move onto something else. The combat initially felt clunky and the morphing seemed to add a useless layer of imprecise complexity. But I decided to stick with it over the weekend to see if it gets better. It does.

After about the 3rd hour playing I started having a lot of fun with the combat. Everything started clicking and it feels great when a plan of attack works out perfectly and you crush your opponent.

Unfortunately, every other part of the game at this point (chapter 3 something) feels far worse than the core combat mechanics. I dread the platforming, turret sections and gimmicky boss fights. I want new and interesting combat encounters not second rate gameplay from other genres.

The story also hasn't resonated with me at all, but I know I'm still pretty early in the game so I'm hoping it improves.

I can certainly see why this game got such mixed reviews. With how long it takes to even comprehend, let alone master, the combat system and then the hit and miss nature of the change of pace gameplay pretty much ensured a rocky reception.

Finished Operation 005 last night with my jaw firmly on the floor. Then looked at the clock and noticed it was 2:30am. That's the stamp of greatness there when a you're having so much fun you lose track of time completely.

It does the job, every collectibles and secret missions, maps and info about ennemies. I don't regret the purchase even though gamefaqs stepped up since then with nice txt file.

Cheers. I've ordered it to add to the collection anyhow. Plus asides from being a teensy bit of a bibliophile I prefer to have something physical in my mits. I've missed all but 2 secret missions so far so defiantly got a use for it.

Just started playing this, and while I love it I really feel like they overused the vaseline-like blue effect. It's fine on the regular stages, but on the fast moving stages it only serves to give me a crippling headache.

That said I'm really enjoying the title, took me about an hour to stop being embarassingly clunky with the controls, after that, pure bliss.

Time for a little trivia guys. If I am not mistaken, operation 007 references
an old anime in which aliens invade the human body as viruses, and humans have to shrink themselves down to their size to stop them. They have a small ship of sorts to navigate through the human body. I forgot the name of the show. Used to watch it as a kid, and I remember loving it.
Given how Kamiya's games references old school animes a lot, this could be true.

EDIT: Now with spoiler tags.

Not an anime but you reminded me of one of my favorite movies.
inner space with martin short and dennis quaid
Now I gotta find the blu-ray/DVD

Anyway, don't know if it's been already said
if you break the the shells off the turtle then stun them with unite attack, draw a circle around them the group will throw them upside down.
The unite guts>fist combo someone described earlier is probably more efficient. though.

No, various Google combinations of 'anime', 'aliens', 'viruses' and 'shrink' led me all over the place until I discovered a browsable pdf of the book. I really love old anime so I was persistent, and it was worth it, it's a cool show.

A better thread title:

The Wonderful 101 |OT| Only 101 copies sold

People enjoying themselves seems to instill feelings of alienation and discomfort in you. Nice av.

Haven't had a chance to really dig in yet, but my 3 year old (almost 4) played it for a while last night and I only had to help with a few things. He loves it though. When we were getting ready for bed, he asked me what the red guy's name was, then when i told him, he started running around punching imaginary bad guys saying "I'm Wonder Red!"

The game is really great, I think if it had some solid marketing it would've been amazing.
