Well, the vast majority of comments on the final live stream were variants of "LMAO! CRAPCOM AM CRY!", so quite a few people appear to have backed it for that reason.
Having Capcom publish a not Megaman game on behalf of the Megaman guy that left them would be quite delicious. In a grudge fuck kinda way.
Putting that aside, this is business and the standard non-fanboy response to a loaded question. One can immediately see that he emphasises the need of an extremely good offer, but on the other hand keeps a foot in the door so it doesn't slam shut by stating he's open to talks. Standard messaging protocols. Nothing new to see here.

Plus changing it to Megaman would make sure that it's never their own and so what was the point of all of this.
Wouldn't using the money to create a completely different game than what was originally advertised somewhere between "scam" and "theft"? I'm pretty sure that even if the money was put in specifically by many to spite Capcom, they wanted Mighty No. 9, not another Megaman.
I'm in the boat of belief that Kickstarter is primarily for scam artists to begin with, but couldn't that get the funding pulled or something? I'm not sure how that works.

- Inafune make a publishing deal with capcom for MN9.
- Capcom buy comcept because they like them.
- Capcom get the ip.
- Change the name to MegaMan and the Mighty 9 Legends.
- Capcom Fire Inafune.
- Shut down Comcept.
- Capcom cancel the entire project.

He's really not admitting that he would want Capcom to publish this game with terms like those. Sure, he says that he would work with Capcom as a publisher and make it Mega Man... only if they give him Mega Man as a property. That would never ever happen.

I remember reading a part of an interview where Inafune pretty much said Kamiya was wrong for leaving and creating Bayonetta because it's so similar to Devil May Cry.

It is a poor businessman who decides merely based on terms. They should consider other factors about who they start a business relationship with as well. If I were Inafune, I probably wouldn't go with Capcom.
What the hell? Inafune, you went to the trouble of involving tons of people to fund your game and you 1) have a great team and 2) get another chance, you got funded and then some. You did all that to just go ahead with your Capcom pissing match? All of a sudden I'm disappointed in myself for backing this.
Why does Capcom need to publish this if WE paid for it already? Is this where the industry is headed? I didn't back you just for you to turn around and get published for free!

Uh, Platinum has a deal with Nintendo. Inufune begs for money on kickstarter. Until I see Platinum begging for money on Kickstarter, I'm calling this a win for Platinum.
I went back and read it again but it doesn't say he won't either. He successfully Kickstarted a project thanks to us.. not Capcom! But now all of a sudden its okay to get a publisher, change the game, and keep the money?
Am I missing something?

To me, you have to read between the lines. He's saying that under conditions that Capcom would never agree to, including fully funding it, giving them full creative freedom, and handing over the entire intellectual property, he would engage in negotiations with them. This would never happen. It's an impossibility.
Like it's been said numerous times in this thread, he's essentially giving a practical answer and not burning bridges.
But this thread was ultimately created for some "betrayalton" appeal.

If this is just a way to take the piss on Capcom, okay I get it, that would still make me salty, but I get it.
But if I even catch a fart in the wind that he's entering negotiations with Capcom after taking my money, I'm going to feel VERY betrayed.
Kickstarter is a place to make ideas become reality. Not take money from loyal customers then go make someone else pay for it and keep said money.
This sounds REALLY shady, and I'm definitely keeping my eyes on this. I'm COMPLETELY not cool with Kickstarter being used as a way to fund corporate games.
Think of it as a...goodwill statement, that Inafune is making a statement that he would theoretically work with Capcom if they offered him a deal he couldn't refuse. Basically the only reason he's saying it is because Capcom wouldn't possibly work with him.
You have to read between the lines when someone makes a statement like that.

The only success story the company has sales wise is MGR and that still sold way less than the usual MGS title would, it sold merely to huge fans of MG or platinum.
Basically, I think platinum will inevitably fold or be in the same spot begging for kickstarter money, and I say this as someone who buys every game by Platinum and loves most of them (sans Madworld and Anarchy Reigns, but I still own them, even own Infinite Space). For some reason they just can't seem to knock out an original hit and it's probably largely due to the fact they can't reliably reach a large userbase and publishers have no faith in them to produce a wide selling game (so Nintendo using them makes sense as a portfolio booster, but even that won't last if the games bomb as hard as 101 seems to be doing)

The next level of Capcom tests: force the producer out, have them start their own independent studio and Kickstart a project, then Capcom decides if they want to release the game.
