It's unclear if it's just Japan or worldwide.

It was at 230K sold at retail in Japan as of December 2012, so this being Japan only is probable.

Gematsu said:
Sales for Persona 4 Golden have surpassed 300,000 units, Atlus has announced.

The numbers include download sales, as well.

Seems pretty good for this type of game, especially on such a small install base.

What did Persona 4 on PS2 sell in a similar timeframe from release out of interest?

Seems pretty solid considering the limited install base of the Vita. I bought it and enjoyed replaying P4 on a handheld.

Considering how the original did and that this is just an enhanced "HD" port, its probably pretty profitable...potentially.

Sony should have bought Atlus. I don't know what Sega are gonna do with them; they seem to have decreasing interest in Western markets outside of a couple of franchises.

Were it not for this version, I (probably) never would have played this game.

Now it's one of my all-time favorites. Is there any chance of a P3 Golden of some sort? I want to say I saw rumors of that at some point. Persona 3 Platinum, I think?

That already exists in the form of Persona 3 Portable. It's a PSP game, but it's compatible with the Vita.

I wonder if this puts it above the original Persona for being among the best selling in the franchise? Combined with vanilla P4 sales + digital I mean.

Excellent numbers either way.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Its the best-selling Vita title in Japan so far....right ?

Dec '08, and even later in Europe.

The core had moved on from PS2. Persona 4 received crazy acclaim, it would have sold far better on PS360 in the West.

And if you make P5 PS3-only, late 2014, they're stupid, again.

They'd be smarter to make it PS3/4/Vita at least. The way Sony makes porting possible I would be up for a Vita version of P5 alongside the proper HD versions on PS3/4.

Ehh, yeah, I have that. I meant, more of a Golden treatment. Didn't really get on with P3P's exploration. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Best RPG of all time deserves more. I hope Sega aggressively markets Persona 5 in the West.

I'd prefer it if they didn't give the game a costly marketing campaign which in turn requires lofty expectations, especially if it fails to meet said expectations. You can wave Persona 6 in English goodbye at that point.

This kind of "it needs to be bigger at any cost" attitude is toxic. While I want to see Persona games being more successful than they are (as a fan, who wouldn't want this?), I don't think aggressively pushing it with marketing is going to do Persona 5 or future titles a good service.

I'm glad it was on the Vita for several reasons, one of them being the built-in screenshot function that lets you easily capture memorable moments.

So how do you popularize a JRPG in the States? I'm not talking about a billion dollar campaign that will drastically increase expenses.

The original Persona is the top selling game in the series?

Has there been a budget release? Also I wonder if it includes Asia but still very good sales basically on par with the original sales wise.
