I bought a copy and I don't even have a Vita.
Best RPG of all time deserves more. I hope Sega aggressively markets Persona 5 in the West.
Were it not for this version, I (probably) never would have played this game.
Now it's one of my all-time favorites. Is there any chance of a P3 Golden of some sort? I want to say I saw rumors of that at some point. Persona 3 Platinum, I think?
+1 to that once I get a vita.
I'd prefer it if they didn't give the game a costly marketing campaign which in turn requires lofty expectations, especially if it fails to meet said expectations. You can wave Persona 6 in English goodbye at that point.
This kind of "it needs to be bigger at any cost" attitude is toxic. While I want to see Persona games being more successful than they are (as a fan, who wouldn't want this?), I don't think aggressively pushing it with marketing is going to do Persona 5 or future titles a good service.
Dec '08, and even later in Europe.
The core had moved on from PS2. Persona 4 received crazy acclaim, it would have sold far better on PS360 in the West.
And if you make P5 PS3-only, late 2014, they're stupid, again.
So how do you popularize a JRPG in the States? I'm not talking about a billion dollar campaign that will drastically increase expenses.
I don't strongly disagree (effective/smart/aggressive marketing for Persona would be neat -- I just fear that it would be costly, and not in a good way), but Atlus USA has built up a loyal fanbase, and they have proven themselves effective at selling niche RPGs to that dedicated audience. From my position, I just don't want to see the boat being rocked too much, especially if money is spent in a way that isn't recouped. It could affect future games in ways that are undesireable, i.e. they may be "broadened" which would be horrible, or they could just not get localised at all, which would be a disaster. That fear is even bigger now they're part of the Sega-Sammy mothership, who have recent notoriety in regards to localisations.Aggressive and/or smart marketing is what most games need and never get.
People don't seek out good things. They need to be told about them. I agree with you in so far as they shouldn't blow their load on marketing and bloat their budget to the point that expectations are ridiculous, but better marketing would be great. It always is. I can count the number of games that I think were effectively marketed on my hands. The industry is soooooo bad about that.
Has any Atlus game crossed 1.3M? Or even 1M? Persona is still a pretty niche series. No where near a million seller.
Fair enough. Let's hope Sega is satisfied with these numbers. My point is, the series isn't struggling in the West afaik. Atlus USA seems to be doing okay with a good portion of its localisations, Persona or otherwise, so why rock the boat with an aggressive marketing campaign that could tip the balance against a game being profitable?
I'd rather it if Atlus USA just carried on doing what Atlus USA does (unless it's made explicitly clear that their current trajectory is unsustainable), rather than trying to branch the game out to a larger audience with marketing and potentially failing, thus jeopardising future releases in the West.

Awesome, considering the vita install base. I bet it influenced a ton of people to buy the vita. I know i bought one with the sole purpose of playing P4G.
Is that good?
Is that good?
Think about it. It's a niche JRPG about high school kids saving the world, only on a Vita, and it sold 300k. And it's a port of a PS2 game. So yes, that's good.
It basically sold on par with the original PS2 release, which was already the best selling game in the series.
Persona 5 on Vita pl0x
We know they are, since they bought the company. This is how Atlus games sell.
Ni No Kuni sold a million, just on PS3, and it's not nearly as good, and didn't have nearly the hype around it, and it's a new IP.Has any Atlus game crossed 1.3M? Or even 1M? Persona is still a pretty niche series. No where near a million seller.
PS3/PS4 too.
I bet you did.I started to like it, but haven't played it since like November. I think I just meat Rise. I'll get back to it eventually.
The original Persona is the top selling game in the series?

If P5 is current gen, next gen and Vita, it'll very easily sell over a million in the West.

It's the best selling Vita game in Japan. What's kind of sad for the Vita is that this is also probably one of its highest selling games. I have no actual figures but I'm safely assuming it's in the top 10.
I wonder if this puts it above the original Persona for being among the best selling in the franchise? Combined with vanilla P4 sales + digital I mean.
Excellent numbers either way.
I hope so, the PSP version has a number of improvements but doesn't have all the FES additions as well scaled back exploration. Were it not for this version, I (probably) never would have played this game.

Yea P5 is a sure thing, and SMTV could happen due to SMTIV's success, but the fate of the other spinoffs and new projects is up in the air.
