So what's going on with Yoshi's Cookie on the Japanese Wii Shop Channel? Anyone know if/when it'll get yanked there too?

DS Overclocked has never been available on the eShop in any region until now. I'm happy. I wanted to buy the game but did not shoot my trigger fire because I kinda want more titles digitally on my 3DS. Now with this and recently the 999 sequel being on eShop, I'm happy. But stuff like Tales of the Abyss should also go on eShop in NA already.

According to GN, Yoshi's Cookie will be gone next Friday, Oct 18
According to me, it was gone last night when I checked. Unless NOA put it back up with the Thursday update, it's still gone. However, I checked the shop channel last night and it was decidedly absent.

You weren't the only one saying it was gone, so I doubt you were mistaken that it was taken down for some time. However, the shop should now have it back up and have a message saying no one will be able to download it again beginning 10/18.

How odd... I wonder if someone at NOA noticed the grumbling and postponed the removal long enough to give folks an alert.

(Has anything happened to Henk Rogers and BPS recently? I know that the DSiWare Tetris game was pulled before -- any chance BPS is more vigilant about licensing fees or something odd like that?)

Why would Nintendo take down one of their own games? I am very confused.

Yoshi's Cookie is a unique case -- Nintendo doesn't entirely own the game. The game was developed by BPS (of Tetris fame) and, as far as I understand it, there is some sort of licensing agreement in place with regards to its continual release.

Anyone take the plunge on the Zombie FPS on DSiWare, I'm tempted by it as it sounds interesting plus I want to see what they can do for an FPS on DSiWare given the size limits.

they should let those crappy old games rot and instead bring out Yoshi's Island. at least they fully own that one.

Little tidbit of information about Yoshi's Cookie... the digital manual for the game references the game concept (called "INARO") being used under license from Intellectual Property Consultants. IPS appears to be based in Hawaii. I'm assuming it's tied to Henk Rogers of BPS...

Edit: I found Inaro, finally -- looks like it's a (mobile?) puzzle game by Blue Planet Software. The webpage is down, but thanks to the Internet Archive, you can see the product page here: http://web.archive.org/web/20071206172130/http://www.blueplanetsoftware.com/inaro.html

I'm not sure if it was ever released, and how closely it matches Yoshi's Cookie, but it looks like BPS released a non-Yoshi themed version of the basic concept a few years back.

The Virtual Console offerings lately have been...well let's just call them disappointing. Come on, Nintendo. I want to buy stuff, stop fucking around with stuff like Golf and Tennis.

KingSnake

The Birthday Skeleton
Oh, they must've added it recently, wasn't there before release (unlike Pikmin 3 for instance). 50 EUR plus premium payback...hmm might bite.

Since the whole Pikmin 3 discussion they didn't release any download code early. Not even midnight on launch day. But usually is cheaper than on eshop. Too bad that they do this just for the 1st party games.

It's ridiculous. Never had a SNES or N64 and my money is waiting to be thrown at them for stuff like Mario 64 and OoT. Wii U is nearly a year old and there still trickling out NES games.

I know I could the N64 games from the Wii VC, but I want that Gamepad support godamnit.

Makes sense, took advantage of that too. I hope in the future we'll see more eshop codes at (digital) retailers.

34,95£/42€ at zavvi, ordered mine on wednesday. Free shipping
Not bad too, plus zavvi have been getting better with shipment times lately for me again. Hmmm decisions, decisions.

Yup, it's absolutely unbelievable the game isn't out on the Nintendo eShop (EU or US). I tried to ask them on Twitter, and of course, they didn't even bother answering. : /

interesting, thanks for the info! While I do enjoy Yoshi's Cookie, I was never interested in downloading it, since I have all three versions on cart. But suddenly I am tempted to download it so I can have a version that saves my scores. I don't think any of the versions had a battery backup (SNES had passwords IIRC).

I just picked up Crashmo and Tokyo Tale. Really enjoying Tokyo Tale so far. I love the home town feel of the atmosphere. I really love that the game used pre-set camera angles like jrpgs used to do.

Witch & Hero is a great experiment in minimalism. It's an RPG distilled to the bare essentials, but with an action layer more involving that most RPGs. Lots of strategy too in the way you approach the battle. I think this will be the first time I buy a game based solely on the demo.

Very interesting. The little things that hold up VC releases, there's probably many, many similar cases for why things don't release that we'll never know of.

Would be nice if Japan Gaf could chime in with a confirmation of 720p/1080p. I'm getting it either way, but would be nice to know.

I'm almost certain it's 720p/60fps.

Hopefully the demo makes its way here soon, I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I played the demo for 2h straight, closed it, fired up eShop and bought the darn game, transferred my stats from the demo to the full game, and continued for 2 more hours. True story of my fist sitting with the game.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that thought this.

I bought the game when it first came out, and my impressions were met with, 'lol Circle etd. Shovel ware'

I spent less than two minutes with the demo. Couldn't figure out how to attack, shut it off, deleted it from my 3DS.

Yeah this game is simplistic and quite ugly and yet it is somehow urging me to play more.

You attack by bumping into enemies, super easy to figure out really.

Does anyone know if Pokemon X/Y have the same save file protection locks that New Leaf has? I'd love to get a digital copy, but I refuse to download games that have those keys for fear of corruption.

Yeah, that's exactly what I did. I figured out you lose health and die. Then I quit and deleted.
You make sure you attack from behind (more damage dealt, less taken). You also get certain 'momentary relief' powerups, the unleash of which you have to carefully plan for. The game has a strong tactical side, which you have to execute under some serious stress. That's a recipe for a good game.

You faint and get up again, the strategy lies in deciding which enemies to attack from where (you get bonus dmg from behind but you'll have to run a lot more) in what order and how to upgrade your equipment/spells.

Hmmm, it's pretty cool that you can get the "Deadly Six" if you buy Sonic Lost World on the eShop. Nice that digital-only people aren't getting screwed this time around. Nice move, Sega.

WTF happened , Nintendo ??

*Kamiya's voice* Ask Sega.

Pretty meh week again, though Sonic Lost World is great. Still don't know when I'll be buying it, since I'm busy on both 3DS/Wii U (especially 3DS).

Will pick up Steamworld Dig at that price. But Jesus, Nintendo. The weekly download has been consistently shit across both platforms for a long time now. At least pad it out with some decent VC releases every now and again. Anything!
