Kinda crazy how MS has seemingly dropped the ball on the controller end. The bumper buttons sound like garbage.
My impression of the controller (tried at Boston MS store) runs counter to OP. Sure it is slightly smaller but overall it is evolution of the excellent 360 controller and all the changes felt positive.

You mean the guy who shits on the X1 in every thread and talks up the PS4 "was'nt impressed" by the graphics? You don't say!!

Also funny this thread shows up now around the time that new Ryse trailer comes out showing off how good it looks.

I agree with the OP.

I dislike the new controller. It's smaller... (I prefer the original in that aspect) The triggers also felt horrible.

As for the games... Nothing excites me, it was all what I expected... I did notice lag with the Kinect.

That's fair but would an xbox fan's opinion really be any less subjective? I think anybody's opinion holds as much weight as another's because good luck finding somebody that is completely objective.
netBuff is very passionate about his PS4 support. Moreso than your typical Playstation fan.

One thing I know for certain, they need to stop showing that Ryse multiplayer demo and do a goddamn campaign one. Lord that demo was bad.

This is literally impossible, it's not a question of whether MS wants to or not. The failure rate with biometric recognition is much too high for such a feature to work in any way.

The only literal part of this statement is that it’s literally wrong. All the processing for your personal Kinect ID is done locally. If you want to have your biometric log-in done on another console, you have to log-in and have the Kinect recognize you there. And between the HD camera and the IR sensor, it’s nearly flawless (in my house anyway). I sit 8 feet away from my TV, at an angle, and sign-in works every time.

Dude there is a MAJOR difference between seeing videos on the internet and playing the game yourself in person.

Plus, most net videos don't fully convey a game's graphics well, either they are of poor quality (shot off-screen, low-res) or they are made to look better than they actually do.

His complaint is the games didn't look like a big jump. I realize videos are not a great indicator BUT at least it gives a decent idea of next gen assets for the launch games.

In person they look better.

His post history shows he is excited for PS4 games and I doubt he has seen any of them in person yet.

My original questions stand.

I mean, it's not like he's saying anything other people haven't already complained about. The controller seems like a huge step back from the fabulous Xbox 360 controller.

I'm not surprised, you guys had similar experiences.

Yeah I think the game is going to find itself in trouble from a metacritic standpoint because that horrendous outsourced multiplayer game will be slapped together with the way more impressive single player game. As a package that outsourced garbage will drag the entire game's score down.

OP have you seen the PS4 in person? What are your thoughts on those games?

Or the latest Ryse trailer? Did it not look comparable to that in person or something?

Haven't had a chance to play the PS4 yet, keeping my fingers crossed ;)

So the reasons you were disappointed in it are exactly those same reasons you prefer the PS4 and have done so for a long time...

Well I'm shocked you were disappointed in that case.

What is this supposed to tell me? Do I now have to be excited about the Xbox? I expected to at least come away a little impressed by the next gen Xbox. Didn't prepare for everything to be so underwhelming.

Considering there are no Kinect only titles, and Battlefield 4 and Fifa 14 aren't listed as games being demoed during the tour, would you mind clarifying?

I'm in Europe, not the US. Both games as well as the two mentioned Kinect titles were certainly present and playable.

To the original poster, how big are your hands? Give us a ring size to give us an idea. I noticed you mentioned the sticks were too small so maybe the One isn't good for big handed gamers?

This would be a decent concern of mine as well... My hands are pretty damn big, i loved the duke because of this and love the 360 pad as opposed to the ds3 because of the size and weight as well.

I generally don't like to discredit or doubt a poster's opinion and there are plenty of gaffers who have made valid criticisms of the XB1 while remaining completely unbiased.

But in this case, knowing the OP, yeah I would take everything with a grain of salt.

All I got from this is that Pinello has an Xbox One in his house, so I should break in, only to get caught by the new Kinect

I mean, it's not like he's saying anything other people haven't already complained about. The controller seems like a huge step back from the fabulous Xbox 360 controller.

It most certainly is not a huge step back. And remember, these things are wired and hooked onto a security device. That can make you think the weight is different.

Albert Penello completely misunderstood what I wrote: I responded to someone expecting the Kinect to hypothetically automatically log someone in on someone else's consoles without prior authentication of any sort, which is pretty much impossible to do without having a huge amount of false positives with the current state of face recognition.

I tried the new controller and its feels very similar to the 360 controller. Yes the triggers are softer but I can't imagine somebody who loves the 360 contoller to hate the new one.. They are too similar.

The only difference I personally noticed was the impulse triggers, everything else felt like I was using my own controller at home.

Thank you internet for allowing everyone the right to express their opinion. Thanks OP for exercising this right.

I have man hands and found the controller annoying as well (from Philadelphia showing 2 weeks ago), but I imagine I can get used to sensitivity of the sticks.

graphics weren't bad tho and were a step up from current systems ( save the PC of course)

it looked a lot better than I thought it would but the One is rather huge.

still keeping preorder.

going to NYC to try out the DS4 tonight if I can-

I had about 20 mins of hands on time with the controller, I thought it felt amazing.
Had a slight issue with the position of the bumpers at first, but I got used to it.
I honestly didn't even notice the smaller size of the thumbsticks at all.
I thought the triggers felt great, impulse was a really cool sensation.
Grip felt incredible.. Only complaint was the security lock on the back at the demo stations haha :p.

I'll have more hands on time with the controller this weekend, but my initial impressions of it were extremely positive.

Oh and Forza looked frickin' great. Dunno what OP is talking about. 1080p and 60fps, mmmm.

It's supposed to tell you were unable to have an unbiased and objective reaction to what you experienced based on how strong your preference and desire for the PS4 is.

It's like sending a hardcore Halo fan to play-test a Killzone title and then being surprised when he or she complains it's not as good as Halo.

I think anyone who is a PC gamer as well as console gamer needs to temper their expectations. You most likely won't see anything to blow you away if you're already running games at Very High in 1080p 60fps.

For a pure PS3/360 gamer though the difference should be immediately noticeable.
