Since we're doing comparisons:

Looks good to me.

And in the new scene, the characters are nearer than E3 scene. Not the same distance to judge. If characters in that picture (quotes) walk a little bit further, than you will not see the sand details, just like the new scene.

Yes it's closer. But you can see on the left some objects are missing (look at the barrels) and on the right the fire on the ground and shadow is missing.

And you can see more details in the right building and better shadows (not too sharp).

I don't know why people are too worry to find downgrades....

EDIT: And the scene is a little bit different, you can't argue a downgrade because there are not the same elements in the scene.

EDIT: This is what you're seeing in the new version:

So you think Forza 5 looks much better than Horizon? Come the fuck on. I had to be told which was which in a screenshot comparison.

I like how, for example, people have always complained about car models swapping between race intro and in game in fm3,4, horizon, yet, with fm5 using models with approx 10 times more geometry, they suddenly can't tell the difference.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Downgrades are really hard to even articulate because moving around stuff doesn't really mean it was due solely to performance. I remember already seeing a lot of this in previous threads with stuff like...

ryse_son_of_rome_3.jpg

There are MASSIVE differences in the background as they got further in development. The entire setting was redone.

Well of course you can see more of the building because the real-time shadow is completely gone over there. That's not a good thing.

This is far and away the best looking next-gen game I've seen now (just watched the new Killzone footage, which itself is beautiful too). Something about the lighting and the detail of the characters, even the non-mains, in Ryse are just ahead of everything else I've seen. The waveracing game looks nice too. Those 3 stand out as the best looking games I've seen so far. I need to see this new updated build actually running to see how the framerate and animations are.

And that's my last reply, if you want to see downgrades, good for you.

no. you can see more of the building in the distance because the entire set was redesigned for just that purpose. notice how the parapet of the bridge is lower in the second screen (concentrate on the design just behind Marius) allowing for a longer view down the horizon to its vanishing point. hell, even the victory arch in question is itself completely redone, as it appears to be somewhat destroyed in the newer build. and youre kidding yourself if you think the lighting is worse. the improvements arent even up for argument.

edit. assuming youre talking about Papercuts above image post.

For all it's graphical polish, it does so little to interest me with its cliches ie. the protagonists motivation is the death of his family. The senator is corrupt and greedy and responsible for Rome's crisis. It's even cribbing popular lines from Shakespeare for dialogue, a man born a thousand years later, as if recorded Roman history doesn't contain plenty of amazing, authentic language. All big warning signs.

As they boast about realism in motion capture and Cryengine, you see a Roman soldier fighting in a river doing absurd pirouettes with his sword. It worked for God of War because it was cartoonish, theatrical and supernatural, but this meshes very badly with the setting they chose.

A realistic Roman war would be different - confusing, exhausting, bloody, repetitive. You wouldn't be thrusting out a sword and easily piercing armour or building up combos by spinning around like a ballerina. This looks like a god of war reskin without that series' freedom to have absurd, impossible fighting and just seems so ill conceived, like they were caught between two conflicting priorities, or that this was a small scale idea that got blown up to fill a gap, but to a scale that it can't support.

All that said, it is still not out, and trailers by their nature are blockbusterified. But I don't feel much hope for this one.

Yes in the E3 version there's a huge shadow casted over it. The current version is missing the shadow. The shields don't cast shadows either in the current version wherer E3 version did. It's missing shadows plain and simple. If you refuse to see it fine by me. Actually the mountain on right is missing detail and downgraded.

you do realize the "new version" you posted is from E3 and the other one is newer one right. No wonder you thought it looked better

I've only just watched the video, and have to say despite getting a PS4, I do think this game looks superb graphically..

Bit of a shame the graphic whores who haven't spotted the scenes are different are trying to detract, but being on XB1 it's not surprising..

I think both platforms now have solid looking games out the gate, I may re-evaluate XB1 around christmas or early next year if games like Ryse do deliver as promised by these trailers.. Along with Forza etc, I can see enough to interest people, and I always like to have both consoles for maximum choice..

You have to remember nobody outside Microsoft has seen this version of the game. Any other people who have played it are referencing the demo we've been showing from E3, Gamescom and PAX. - pre GPU and CPU upgrade. Same goes for any of the Forza footage. That's what's on the betas people have, and that's what's on the tour.

When Phil showed me this trailer a few weeks ago, I was telling him this better be the real thing. I was told directly this was taken from XBO builds, with the exception of unlocking the camera for the battle scenes to make it more dramatic.

So this is the real thing.

Is it all real time? no tricks?

EDIT: No in-engine trailer?

EDIT2: Can we expect the E3 trailer quality for Forza 5?

The more I watch the cutscenes, the more impressed I get. Not only because of the exceptional graphics -signature of Cryteck's performing engine-, but also because of the attention to details (facial animations) and the cinematic feel that radiates through and through...
If the suckers at Cryteck fail at matching the visual offering in terms of gameplay and storytelling, this will be a squandering of epic proportions...

Yeah, there is absolute nothing to worry about when it comes to this games visuals. Anyone complaining about the graphics after that trailer is just trolling.

That's not the problem I have with this game, that's the problem I ever had with this game. The extreme linearity, combat and limited interactivity is what concerns me. However, if Crytek has made as much strides with the visuals as they did with the gameplay since E3... then this actually could be much better than I anticipated. That's a big if though.

Well, IMO linearity is not an issue in this kind of games, I mean, God of War is one of the most linear games, and it is enjoyable.

If story is good and there are variety of enemies and situations, it will be ok.

Microsoft was very smart to get Crytek to make a launch exclusive for them. They've basically been making next-gen games and game engines longer than anyone else at this point and it shows.

So this guy is full of shit:

Just so that everyone knows, the footage from that video has been rendered/captures from a PC version. It isn't from a Xbone. In game is much worse.

Not trolling just passing on what I've seen myself from playing the game.

BTW, can you confirm Dead Rising 3's resolution? The rumor going around is that the game is using a dynamic resolution solution, but there has never been a source for it. Really curious here.

After seeing NBA 2K14 trailer i am less impressed by this.

Because sports games should be directly compared with third person action games...

LOL

Agreed on the facial animations. I just finished watching the Killzone footage and while the character models looked great, they didn't look right once they started talking. The facial animations in Ryse will really give the game that "next gen" look.

I guess it's my turn to go bat shit crazy but the NBA trailer was weird for me. The faces and body models seemed off. Just my two cents. They nailed the poly uniforms (fabric physics?) no doubt though.

Ryse character models mop the floor with those imho.

Nah that's not what I mean, I mean extreme linearity. Like that demo that was shown at the EB expo was just filled with straight lines/hallways.

Even something like this just demonstrates how small the actual playspace was. (Not commenting on the glitch itself, but rather demonstrating how small the actual playspace is)

iFzS0amagGBaq.gif

God of War also isn't a good example because like I was saying, I was concerned about the limited interactivity. There isn't many options of types of gameplay in Ryse from what I've seen - it's just one combat encounter leading into the next. Which is fine when you have a combat system as deep and engaging as something like Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta, but God of War knows it doesn't, so it breaks up the monotony with puzzles and platforming. It plays to its strengths.

I got it, but I thibk we will see a lot of different situations, and some of them more "open/free".

That's a pretty terrible screen cap to be honest. Here's better. Also, NBA 2K usually runs at 60 FPS versus Ryses' 30 FPS. I'm assuming that the next gen version will still run at 60 FPS, but after those visuals, I don't know what to think anymore lol.

But that's besides the point this isn't an NBA 2K14 thread.

Yes it is not a NBA 2K14 thread, but even the picture in the link is on another league, a lot of steps behind Ryse (NBA 2K14 looks really good).

Adding to that, NBA is in a much more close environment so there really is no comparison.

People seem to be trying a little too hard to find downgrades not because they are actually there, but more because they've made a decision that the downgrades absolutely must be there somewhere.

It's the only way I can comprehend a silly claim such as a real-time shadow being missing or removed when what Crytek actually did was replace an almost entirely barren and boring background with something that is the opposite of barren, and noticeably more detailed.

Hahah you are insane. Missing objects, effects and shadows is less barren and boring? lol

I'm guessing this

looks worse than the below too right?

No more shadows projected by the shields is a *design choice*, plus the screen tearing is an added effect am i right?
