Batman: AA/AC Steam Patch Live. Mac Version, Achievements, and GFWL/Securom removal

Sure, but considering the politics involved (Nvidia "moneyhats", if you will, though that's not to suggest it applies in all cases), giving PhysX the cold shoulder, causing insufferable performance for most if not literally all of those interested in enabling the effects, is rather self-defeating. PhysX is largely considered a joke because far more often than not it incurs a significant performance penalty for little visual gains and this is something Nvidia ought to be stamping out, not indirectly encouraging.

I honestly struggle to decide whether I want that solid 60FPS or a locked 30FPS with some of the effects.

Sure, some look weird and out of place (the breaking ice in AC for example at the end of the benchmark) but the floating paper and smoke is pretty awesome as are the added particles. I know that it's a performance killer, but it does look pretty damned cool in spots.

Also, I honestly had more performance issues with the DX11 features than any of the Physx stuff. Turning off Tesselation and HBAO gave me a huge boost not incomparable to knocking down some of the physx settings.

Yeah, DX9 + PhysX is the way to go if you have the grunt. The DX11 renderer even after all this time is woefully inefficient.

I know this is a bit off topic but what's going to happen to games like Gears of War that I bought off the MS store about two years ago?

All we know so far is:

- Batman: Arkham Asylum and City (the GOTY flavours) have had GFWL replaced with Steamworks
- BioShock 2 has had GFWL replaced with Steamworks
- Epic is discussing internally what to do with Bulletstorm
- Codemasters is removing GFWL from Dirt 3, while Dirt 2, F1 2010/2011, Fuel, and Operation Flashpoint: Red River "are being looked at"
- Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet has had GFWL replaced with Steamworks
- GFWL is reportedly being removed from various Capcom games, but again we don't yet know if Steamworks will be put in its stead

Everything else is up in the air at this juncture.

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
So I haven't done much in Dark Souls yet... should I just wait for the removal to avoid saves vanishing?

I have a retail copy of AA already installed, but can't find my box to get the CD key. Anyone know if there's a way to retrieve it? I've tried the Magic Jelly Bean tool, but it didn't pick up the AA key. I've also had a quick trawl through the registry and didn't see anything relevant. Obviously, there's no info within the GfWL client in game, that'd be expecting way too much...

Bought the game yesterday and finally finished the download after it had restarted 3 times. :/

Does the game still have that DX11 stutter bug, should I just play in DX9?

Yeah.

I just got the GOTY editions for free. I've come close, several times, to buying 'em, then going "eh, I can wait."
That looks nice, which skin is that?

So is there a way to remove the regular versions from my library now?

If you received the GOTY versions because you owned the vanilla versions, rather than having purchased them yourself, you're out of luck as Valve can only remove subscriptions from your account, and since the GOTY versions were added to the vanilla subs, you can't remove the vanilla versions without also removing the GOTY flavours.

Bah, I kinda get it but it looks pretty stupid.

This is a long shot, but to anyone who tried the updated version of AA, did they add the playable Joker content? I'm wondering since they did add that content to the Mac release of the game.

So I've just tried running Arkham City. It prompts for an activation key, but all that pops up in Steam are the DLC keys. Any help?

There's a mac version of AA? Only AC GOTY edition is showing up under Mac games in my library.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

No. They didn't.

What kind of sucks too is that if you have access to the Mac version (or don't mind the grey area) you can hack in the Joker content with the non-GOTY version.

Yea sorry, I thought your folders were off but after checking again they where both right but just assigned to the wrong game.

AA GOTY was in 35140 and AC GOTY was in 200260 for me so mainly in regards to where you should place the file so the steamworks version could see it was confusing.

Oh god, you're right... :(

Sorry I messed that up. I already fixed it.

Can anyone help me.

I have the retail versions of Batman AC and AA. I enter the CD key from the booklets(Like with Bioshock 2) to activate the game and Steam says "invalid steam key"

Thank you in advance.

I think someone here mentioned last night they got a "general protection fault" error with Arkham Asylum. I'm not sure if a solution was posted but after downloading the GOTY edition I got the same error. Disabling crossfire fixed it for me.

Why is AC GOTY still asking me for Securom CD Key? Steam gave me a key but it doesn't work. Wasn't Securom removed?

Look above. Morningbus already answered your question.

That's a shame. I guess this can't be "hacked" into the new steamworks version at all?

Whoops, sorry. I got an error message when trying to post the message earlier, so I thought it wasn't posted.

Are GFWL retail keys working yet?

- Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is having GFWL removed (no word yet on whether Steamworks will replace it)
- GFWL is being removed from various Capcom games, but again we don't yet know if Steamworks will be put in its stead

This is great, I will end up bookmarking this. Understandably, you see this question all the time from people.

I was wondering why the game suddenly had Trading Cards and Achievements in my library.

The death of GFWL continues to bring us good things.

Valve hasn't added retail keys to the database yet. My guess is that this won't be done until Asylum and City vanilla have been patched, which I'm hoping happens today.
