Super huge Trip picture

I recently finishedd another playthrough of DmC, and with the screenshot thing that Steam has, I took the liberty to take a few shots of some of the characters. I'm extremely impressed by a lot of the facial expressions and gestures the models in this game, along with Enslaved and Heavenly Sword, pull off. It's not much considering what Next-Gen has in store, but I think it's one of NT's better traits outside of easy mode action games with decent stories.

And before you people even do it:

Yes, Dante's smirks are silly.

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.
If "Ninja Theory" has one redeeming quality, it's the quality of their cut scenes. They're fantastic to watch.

Yeah, the facial animation and modelling in their games is really good. Some of the best in the biz.

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
Maybe it was an artistic choice to make everything look more gritty but characters in dmc are freaking ugly.

Too bad they suck at everything else.

how can you top this top lel

Also, this is my first time really focusing on taking screens in a game; are they okay? The DmC ones are mine.

They do several things well, but no one ever acknowledges it. Probably the most underrated developer on GAF.

Decent to Great stories, great visual design, decent to ok dialogue, stellar presentation, fucking brain dead easy mode action.

Though DmC is not the latter. It's good.

NInja Theory has made 3 great games this generation. So unfairly bashed. They do amazing stuff with story telling and art design

if i'm not mistaken don't they use the mocap with the little balls all over the persons face?

Oh, I'm sorry.

You're right. Simply capturing the the folds of skin for an animation means that the artists have to do no work and deserve no credit.

Because those magic balls do all the modeling, texture work, lighting AND animation.

Yeah, their Dante has an awesome looking face. It's very specific (though in opposition with the original character) and you can tell what his personality is without even seeing him in motion. He looks kind of like a shark.

Zing! But in all seriousness, they are good; I wish they can be better.

Too be fair I liked Heavenly Sword story wise and they had good ideas but the combat wasn't that great, slowdowns and just bad gameplay decisions. Would love another one because it had potential.

And man I really liked Enslaved and that's after I went into it with a negative opinion but man... that ending just ruined everything that preceded it and just soured me on the game. Also the gameplay for that wasn't anything special either.

Yeah its usually the game part that subpar.

Yeah, I've always enjoyed their character modeling. Kai from Heavenly Sword always stood out to me as being unique and I loved the general twitchy-ness of her animations. Good stuff.

Haven't played DMC yet though.

I predict this is going to turn into a thread where we discuss whether DMC was a good game or not.

DMC was great

Dante finally has a face with personality.
A mug that doesn't seem squeezed out of the generic anime tube of randomly attributed features that still fall in line with what Capcom thinks an attractive caucasian male should look like.

I was especially impressed with how they made Dante and Vergil look so similar, yet so different at the same time. Like actual twins, basically. Especially since their actors don't really look alike.

yes, I always thought they did nice face rigging, which is probably even more important.

Combine good rigging of the mesh for the facial animation
Good modelling
Good texturework.
Good shaders (makes the difference between plastic and actual skin, combined with the lighting system).

and then you get something of this quality.

Always thought they had a fantastic visual design to their games, it's just everything else that's lacking. Hopefully they improve upon what capcom taught them with DmC and maybe Alex Garland will come back to help them with the writing.

Yes, they do. The current top (for me) ones are:

1. Quantic Dream
2. Naughty Dog
3. Ninja Theory
4. Rockstar
5. Bioware (Non Human characters)

Top worst ones (notable companies).

1. Bioware (Human characters)
2. Ubisoft

That first post.

Seriously, dying!

I loved bits of Enslaved and really enjoyed Kai's parts in Heavenly Sword. Started DmC, but never finished!
