Week of October 21st to October 27th, 2013.

Fighting Games Weekly is the weekly discussion thread for all things fighting games. News, events, streams, videos, players, drama, everything fighting game related.

Don't know what to watch right now? Check the FGCPros Twitch Group or Jaxel's Stream Viewer. If you want to watch multiple streams at once, you can use Jaxel's customizable multiviewer as well.

New to FGC-GAF is the FGC-GAF Index which lists the fighting games GAFers plays as a neat reference with some rough statistics to boot. To add yourself to the index, quote this post and use the survey link below. Please remember to save/bookmark the "Edit your response" link so you can edit your responses if/when you buy a game already on the list or a new game that releases in the future.

Last week's thread.

And we'll start this off with some fun news!
RIP Capcom
...or maybe a next-gen port just wouldn't be worth it
or maybe they just don't give a shit about fighters again

It is Capcom. They'll port everything to everything at some stage... well except the Wii U.

When you throw a football, it reaches the target? Every time?

A football will always go exactly where you throw it, every time. Where you throw it might not be where you were trying to throw it, but that is a different issue. You still threw it and can find other people who suck just as much and still have a damn good time.

A thread title that acknowledges the awfulness that is Lee Chung's repetitiveness? Yay.

+R is super fun. <3 Kliff.

If they're not then they have a lot of people doing nothing. Or just working on mobile games. :(
This is the correct answer.

The only big game in development right now from Capcom that isn't announced yet is RE7. Pretty much every other developer they have is working on some project whether mobile (Itsuno, Nitsuma) or working on a game that has been announced (Ono/Ayano on USF4, Ono also producing for Deep Down, Kobayashi probably on the next Sengoku Basara). The only dev team that would actually be free is the MH team but most likely they have already started work on the next MH project because why the hell wouldn't they? That's Capcom's most stable franchise right now.

If that's the case than what they're really doing seems to be actively positioning the company for a buyout by a larger entity.

I think it is more they are transitioning to the next generation. Apart from RE they can then clear the decks with these jobs and get stuck into messing up some real projects.

Not really they have at least 3 next gen projects in development (DR3, DD and RE7). They are still actively pursuing the mobile market and of course MH did well for them. Plus this is a latent generation transition from them, don't expect a lot of projects to be announced once the initial 3 are released. They aren't in any danger of getting bought however if they don't start off this gen well or if the mobile market ends up being a bust for them they will be in a really shit position.

The whole 150 million bucks in the bank information has made Capcom look worse than they actually are. They are actually better off than they were like 5 years ago. Yea it's a decline from last year but still within normal range of what the company has been doing for the past 5 years.

The low cash on hand is a real problem. You have to spend money to make money, and they're running out of money to spend.

Did they have just 150million on hand the last 5 years too? lol

That "problem" is really overstated and shows that people don't really know how this industry works.

They actually did better this year than the year before and these figures don't include the MH cash influx.

also DahBombed lied to me about Pokemon. Its nothing like Marvel.
You tried playing against a live opponent? When you get to not play the game then come back here.

Oh, so people freaked out over nothing. That's good to know.

Well I'm sure Capcom have a lot of problems, but getting money wouldn't be one of them. Completing something without spending a shitload more than they perhaps could have would be more the issue.

There's still a problem just not as severe as some people think it is. Most of Capcom's franchises are on a decline which is the real problem. They can't bank on a DMC game selling 2 million+ copies anymore like it used to just like they can't bank on a RE game selling 5-6 million anymore. The problem is that Capcom thinks those games still can sell that much and thus budget the games around that then get upset when they don't meet expectations.

There is also the case of Ono and various Capcom staff putting out tweets with bad English and people misinterpreting them. Plus it's fucking Ono... don't believe his lies etc. We don't really know what he means by "resources"... is it a man power issue, a time issue, a budgeting allocation issue, cash on hand issue? People see "resource problem" and jump to the conclusion that Capcom is about to go under soon.

Capcom's decision going forward is also very dubious which is more cause for alarm. They have specifically stated that they are going more online/mobile and more DLC focused going forward. Their online division has been raking in the cash and generated more revenue than before... expect to see more F2P/online only games.

Then of course back to the franchise issue... after the big bomba craters left by LP3 and DmC what is going to happen to those franchises. Do they go the way of Onimusha/Dino Crisis or does Capcom take another risk with them? I mean it's pretty obvious from a gamer perspective what went wrong with those games and why they underperformed but to a head CEO he would look at some metacritic scores and then some sales data coming to the conclusion that these franchises need to be shelved so they can allocate more resources to RE7.

I feel like the only people who knew this were the people who asked. Very dumb.

I don't know why anyone would take anything Ono says straight. The fact that he's claiming there are no resources probably means that they allocated toward SF5 already and he's trolling the world. I would be more concerned for the series if he came out and said that SF wasn't dead (just like Darkstalkers).

This would be the real psychological troll.

Canada Cup might be over.

http://t.co/Zu5JN0Mw3s

It's unlikely that the tournament will return next year, Duong recently told us. "I told all my staff we're probably not going to be doing [another Canada Cup]," and he added that it takes a big toll on everyone to run the event every year.

"It's really not about the money sometimes," added Duong. "It's more about how much time I have to invest," he said noting that when he's putting so much effort into running a fighting game tournament, he's not able to put that into his business.

bull shit. We do TOs keep lying. Stop talking about "for the love of the community". 8.95 came from Canada Cup. We all know TO make money, stop lying about it. TO do it for the money. Jamessmk has done the math, the money from the entrants + sponsorship easily cover any "fee". Also the venue is almost free as proven by Rolando.

kappa, i actually might have to put this or else somebody will fall for it

i heard jebailey bought a ferrari with the money he made from ceo.

Spending 6k on Jaeger shots or whatever might not be the wisest of expenditures.

edit: Also, you probably should never trust anyone asking you to buy them shots of that cough syrup anyway.

He even goes to disneyland every weekend. That shit ain't cheap. Also he got a wrestling ring and etc. None of that shit is cheap! TOs are slapping the FGC in their face and the FGC just takes it.
