Media Create Sales: Week 42, 2013 (Oct 14 - Oct 20)

It appears that Capcom has successfully migrated their Monster Hunter fanbase to the Nintendo platform. This has worked out for them: very high sales with lower production costs than a Vita/PS4 version would require. This is something I don't think could be done as effectively in the West; I believe there would be significant sales repercussions for any longstanding franchise that chooses to back down from the tech arms race.

This brings up the interesting question to me of exactly how well God Eater 2 will do. People seem to be expecting pretty high numbers from that game, especially the Vita version, but it seems likely that a big chunk of that audience were MH fans on the PSP and that MH benefited the game which is why I think a larger chunk that people expect will be on PSP and that sales overall probably won't pass the first.

Well the Wii U will see a spike soon with the bundles, just like the Vita. And just like the Vita, drop down again (and again and again)

Vita has some quite notable releases almost every couple of weeks until the end of the year. Wii U has only one (besides the bundles).

Probably not, also because of gamer as luigi, mario rpg, friend collection and dragon quest 7. Next year should have smash, dq monster, probably pokemon z, and few surpriser as the new capcom game. Plus the 2ds, at a lower price.

Solid, but not as stellar as 2013

Exactly my thoughts with the exception of the 2DS. With the 3DS selling as well as it is in Japan, why would Nintendo introduce a system that (most likely) earns them less money?

Nintendo has absolutely nothing to release in its place. The system still has 3 years left regardless of sales.

Vita numbers are not a good sign--I was expecting a much better hold.

They could abandoning it, shift development to 3ds, focus on neyt console, open the cross platform play gates with 3ds..release a wiids..

I hope there isn't a heatwave when bundles come out.

Yeesh, Wii U sales keep going to new lows.

How is the Vita revision second week drop compared to other revisions for other platforms?

3D Land had a massive impact on the 3DS, so I am more optimistic because of that. It'll certainly have a big impact for a couple of weeks. It's just a matter of how long its legs are.

Yeah, but 3D Land is a portable game sold in a country where portables rule. I don't think 3D World will have quite the same impact.

I think 2ds will be profitable. They did it alro with that in mind. Battery and screen especially

If Toukiden can manage to ship 470k, then it isn't too far-fetched, I think, to assume that GE2 would do about as well or even better than the first. Split-wise, I'm expecting close to a 50/50 split with the Vita version having a slight edge.

I agree, if Toukiden manged to sell so many copies, God Eater 2 will be bigger.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "pretty high numbers", but given that Toukiden shipped 470k units, I don't think it's unreasonable to believe that an established property like God Eater 2 will surpass that by a decent margin.

Edit: Beaten... :/

I'm not saying it'll have the same impact. I'm just saying it'll give Nintendo a big holiday boost. I'm mostly concerned about after the holidays.

Wii U sales were, and are only bound to get worse during the pre-bundle weeks. This was guaranteed to be the worst weeks on record.

The real question is how far above the average baseline it'll be. My most optimistic guess would be 15k since 3D World still hasn't come around.

If Pikmin 3 could bump Wii U sales to 22k I don't think it's that silly to assume 3D World will at least have a slightly better impact on the Wii U than that did.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

You honestly believe Nintendo would do that? I just can't see it. They seem drastically behind in certain areas.

RE: Vita sales, the first week of the revision was much better than anyone here guessed it would be. Most here said it would be ~30K. How high were aspirations raised where 25K for the second week is disastrous?

And additionally the first week was only 60K, dropping to 25K Second week with no supporting release. The pricedrop had One Piece, Tales of Hearts, and Senran Kagura, with Soul Sacrifice on the second week, and the third week it slid 62K->63K-35K. So considering the lineup is it still a shock disappointment?

Yeah this is what I don't get either. People here are shocked at the Vita drop when really the expectation should have been it'll do 20-30k in the second week all along. I mean some people thought that's how the revision will do in week 1 so from that perspective it's doing well. Now, objectively it isn't doing well, but seeing so many people saying that they expected more than 25k is just a bit weird.

Vita will be fine for the rest of the year though. The big question is how it'll do from mid January onwards as there aren't many notable releases for the Vita until Soul Sacrifice Delta and J-Star Victory in March.

Bundles or a price cut won't save Wii U.

Not in japan. The Wii U needs games there. Let's see how Mario World performs.

In the rest of the world Wind Waker did some magic for Wii U sales and Mario World will bring Wii U to record sales, but I don't think that Mario World will do that much in Japan.

I feel better about the Vita sales going forward than I do the Wii U. Even though I think Nintendo will do a better job supporting the Wii U with games than Sony will for the Vita, I think niche 3rd party games, PS4 interactivity, and Vita TV will do enough to keep the Vita afloat. Or at least compared to Wii U sales.

Why? Those are probably adjusted expectations due to the surprisingly high first week sales of the model. I was expecting a 30-40k hold off myself. Still, though I think this drop is a harsh one, I also don't think there's much to worry for the rest of the year as the year-end lineup is quite solid.

While it definitely went up, I'm not sure 31K (4 week month) to 95K (5 week month) with the combined effect of a bundle, Wind Waker, and a price cut is exactly a magical performance.

Magic? Sure, it tripled the sales in the US, but it's still nowhere compared to other consoles.

Because I want to play it on PS3/4/PC/WiiU

No interest in 3DS

Capcom would do everything to prevent graphical investment of resources to the series.
If 3DS had failed for some reason then they would have just stuck to PSP.

It's not that they're trying to shaft the series. It's just that they've lost too much money on other games.
