I had no idea Major Nelson's account had finally been accepted (welcome Larry). Why is he still a Junior ?

Perhaps the junior -> member limitation (300 posts and some time amount) is hardwired or something?

Imagine Evilore could overrule it though

I've got a few more planned when I get back to the office.

Got a question for you if you don't mind.

Can the XBO take screenshots in-game? Or can you take a screenshot out of a video in Upload Studio? Just something I wondered.

Going to London tomorrow to play XBO again can't wait.

Yea he was actually a pleasure to talk to. Talked to him for a few minutes about different stuff. Despite being jet lagged no doubt (you could see it in his face), he was cheery with everyone. He was telling me he enjoys reading GAF and asked how I liked Forza. Actually the conversation went like:

Major Nelson: "How'd you like Forza?"
Me: "It was ace, felt really smooth and the graphics look great dude"
MN: "You let GAF know, 1080p/60fps alright? I promise. There was a thread on it when we announced it that I liked"
Me: "Oh I know, I made that one man"
MN: "That was you? It was good. Yup 1080p/60fps"
Me: "What about Titanfall?"
MN: "Oh you"

lol

LOL great pic of MN and yourself. I always have felt kinda bad for community managers although they surely get paid well and lots of perks BUT they are the object of hatred, douchebags and over the top threats (fourzerotwo) about something as "simple" as video games. Glad to hear Major seems genuine from all IRL accounts.

As someone who has been Xbox as main platform since 2002/03 I of course have an itch to try the new console. Sad no love has been shown to Cincinnati/ Kentucky yet from either console.... I'm not going to lie, I have flipped in my mind from Xbone to PS4 and back again at least twice this release season and still have both pre-ordered but definitely not buying both. I'm officially in wait and see mode now, as PS4 commercial just plays on TV...

Personally pumped to try both in hand, the 360 controller was/is perfection in my eyes, hate they changed for the sake of change.. Sony refuses to admit this layout is better sadly. Please someone send consoles to our area and take our gaming dollars.

Thanks to everyone here who dropped by. I hope you had a good time.

I'll find out when the Xbox One kiosks will be going into the Microsoft Stores…not sure what the timeline is on that. I know they're starting to show up at Gamestops and Best Buys.

Nice to have you here. I've a question, is there a plan for a tour like this in Mexico or other parts of LA? AFAIK we're going to have the system at launch the same day and being that we are a official market since the OG Box i guessed we were in the same position for stuff like this.

See ya later MN.

The only think I'd add re: Titanfall, you should ask EA/Respawn.

I do not know the details about their game.

Who do I speak with regarding a Voodoo Vince sequel?

IALIZCy.png

It's been too long.

My pleasure guys. And another last little short story...

He walked over to the Xbox One display in the center and held it next to it and said "Hey, here's your old grandpa. They finally meet for the first time" and everyone was cheering. Felt pretty cool. Took a pic while he was walking over to it :p

Shinobi, I used your image in an article I wrote about the event: Xbox One Tour: Road To Launch Orlando Event. I linked to your post to show the image wasn't one that I took.

If you'd like me to remove it, say the word and I'll do so. I just figure to let you know that if you want to tell me to "stuff it" since it's your image, I'm ready for the killing blow, lol.

Having said that, I got a decent clip of Forza 5 being played and it looked amazing!

Voodoo Vince for XBLA (is it still called that?) on Xbox One would be great.
Followed by a sequel the next year.

Conker's Bad Fur Day also needs a remake

They aren't calling games xbla or xblig anymore. Everything is going to be in one section "games". Which i think is good.

I tried the Xbox One at bestbuy tonight in Montreal. I played some Forza. The controller is simply amazing! The trigger feedback feels very good. Also, the console and kinect are actually smaller than I thought. November 22 can't come soon enough!

Tried the Xbox One at the Area One event in Atlanta.

Initial impressions:

The room was LOUD and dark. Could hardly hear myself think.
The controller is one of the best controllers I've ever felt. It felt very well constructed and not like a piece of plastic like the previous/current gen controllers felt. It was like an OG Xbox version of the Xbox 360 controller (if that makes any sense). The thumbsticks felt very precise yet easy on your thumbs. The trigger buttons were comfortable and felt solid -- no 'false presses' like occasionally with the 360 controller.
The first game I tried was Forza 5. Very beautiful graphics and it looked amazing.
Dead Rising 3's demo didn't really impressed me. I wanted to have a set objective in the time period played instead of running and attacking things (i.e. a case activate, etc.)
Played Peggle 2 and it was Peggle but with an excellent sense of control.
Played Crimson Dragon and I was completely impressed by the game....it was actually my favorite game out of all of them. It was hard, yet very fun and very fair. Felt like I was playing Child of Eden but with the flying mount from Panzer Dragoon.
Saw Kinect Sports Rivals and I loved completely the ode to Wave Race 64 that was the jetski race. Until I played it. I can't tell if it was the setup, but the Kinect controls were awful. Nothing I did seemed to have an effect on what occurred on screen.
Tried Ryse but the loading times were too much.
Didn't play Battlefield 4. First-person shooters are more my thing at home than out in public.
Had a very nice chat with one of the booth people and she actually heard of Shadows of the Damned. My feedback was very similar to the above except I wished there would be a Vanquish 2/Shadows of the Damned 2 for XB1. I also talked to her about The Evil Within and she wanted to buy it that day lol. If there were more games like Crimson Dragon available, I would safely say I would consider getting a XB1. However, there isn't and that's very troubling. There's only so many Forza/Ryse/Halo type of games and most of what I saw didn't feel like it was for me. I tried very hard to have an open mind about the experience and if I didn't have a very large backlog of Xbox 360 games to play, I would be more inclined to get a Xbox One.
The booth person swore up and down that Microsoft is trying to attract 'the gamers' to Xbox One with 'artificial intelligence' within the console. I don't know if that's the same thing as the cloud feature that was previously touted and I'm not trying to attack her for trying to sway me one way or another. As I mentioned before, I doubt very seriously I would get either console. I left away feeling unimpressed by the Xbox One based on the games I saw and I wouldn't get the console at launch.

EDIT: Question for Larry Hryb -- would Microsoft even be open to having a Vanquish 2 or Shadows of the Damned 2 (heck, even Lollipop Chainsaw 2) type of niche games exclusive/timed exclusive on their system?

I forgot to mention, after seeing both the PS4 and X1 in person they don't look to much difference size wise. Of course that's seeing them both separately not next to each other.

I forgot to mention that I was pressed for time (trying to beat the Atlanta commute home), so I'm not exactly sure that I really gave the games I saw a fair shake. There were other games that the lines were a bit too long or just didn't interest me (LocoCycle, Killer Instinct, FIFA 14, Skylanders Swap Force). Of what I did see I liked it, but overall not enough to spend the money for the new console.

I can't imagine why not.

Larry - how will you guys be handling the game store organization? Right now, I really like that Xbox LIVE Arcade is a division, idie is a division, GoD is a division and so on. With this new setup, how will I know what game is a fun-sized or a massive adventure (besides reading the descriptions). It's really convenient to just go into Arcade and pick a game out. I'm curious will you be able to explain more on this subject? And just the organization of the Xbox Game Store in general. How will you guys prevent indie games from being overshadowed by piling them up with all others? Can we sort by price? Thank you.

Hey Gaf,

So I'm at the London event, I'm shooting a ton of video and will have detailed impressions later.

Quick things - controller is fantastic. I'll do a video review in a bit.

played kinect sports - waverace can be played with a pad. Kinect was fine, but pad was great too. Back with more later. Any questions on specific stuff, please post and I'll try and get some footage.

oh, played BF4 too - i smell 720p native. :)

Looking forward to it :)

Play Crimson Dragon!

Thanks for telling us your impression, gotta question regarding BF4.

Did you notice a big difference in the haptic feedback rumble in the triggers? People are saying they only notice it for Forza or there was no rumble switched on. Curious as to whether or not you get a massive difference when say an LMG/Sniper Rifle is in your hands.

The only games with rumble triggers enabled were CD and Forza, at least at the event where I was.

I'm also wondering how pre-orders are going to work. Can I download the game on Day One and still get some of the pre-order bonuses we are used to getting from retailers?

Yeah, If you download Forza 5, Ryse or Dead Rising 3 from the online store on the 22nd they'll have all of the Day One content.

Thanks! I've been a fan of Forza since the first. Back in Forza 2, I upgraded this car to a 4WD & added a turbo charger -- NONE of my friends could stop me, so I figured the livery name fit. :D

Okay GAF!

Just got home from the London event - Warning: Positive Xbox One impressions forthcoming.

Shot a ton of video (some of which is still rendering/uploading, so bear with!), and grabbed a few pics, so without further ado...

Xbox One Tour - London

The event was pretty well organised (and not so rammed that it was frustrating), so I'll cover some of the information I gleaned from the staff on site, and how the event worked, then I'll cover what I thought of the controller, then Kinect, then the games themselves.

Important information to note:

All of the TV's were 720p. Some had so much processing on them it was awful, some were calibrated a little better. None of the TV's present were 1080p. So, please bear that in mind when you see the off-screen video/pictures etc.

The event was organised over 2 floors - all the family friendly stuff on the top floor - Kinect Sports Rivals, FIFA 14, Forza 5, Zoo Tycon and on the bottom floor we had 8 v 8 BF4, Killer Instinct, Ryse and Dead Rising 3.

Xbox One, Kinect, and the new controller.

I really, really like the controller. I filmed a quick video to show everyone what I percieve to be a lot of fuss over the bumpers - they are fine, IF you hold the pad like I do. Other users may struggle - for those that hate "loose" sticks, I wouldn't worry - I found the sticks to feel great. They are much less resistant to being moved, but calling them loose is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. The triggers were great, the d-pad is fantastic, and the overall weight and feel of the pad in hand left me feeling very pleased with my preorder.

Some picture of the console (it's really not that massive) and controller below.

Video of Controller

On to the games, so Family Friendly stuff first!

Kinect Sports Rivals

Played on a horribly calibrated TV.

Grpahically, the game is gorgeous, full of colour and vibrancy. You can navigate the menu, which is "The Island" by hitting either the left or right trigger to spin it around. Obviously, went straight to Waverace.

The Kinect response was pretty good - it successfully detected as to whether I had my hand open or closed for acceleration, and you had to actually lean your body to turn left or right, rather than just twisting your arms like imaginary handle bars. The Water was totally amazing and the course was littered with interesting jumps, shortcuts and obstacles, such as water mines.

Pleasantly surprised to find you can control the game with the controller too, which is just as responsive as you'd expect any controller based game to be. Definitely not just added controller support as an afterthought. You can also use this is conjunction with Kinect - leaning my body while turning with the pad seemed to result in tighter turns in general. I had a lot of fun with it.

I also, after pestering the Rep on the station, persuaded them to let me play around the with Avatar Creation tool. Which was fantastic to go through - considering it was an old build (but stable) it saw me perfectly (despite the terrible lighting in the venue). This was the result. It successfully detected the beard, but not the mohawk, which I added later (Although to be fair to Kinect, mine isn't quite as pronounced).

Overall, really enjoyed Kinect Sports, and look forward to picking it up on release.

Forza 5

I am not a racing game fan (unless it's something super arcadey, like Burnout) so don't expect much here.

It was pretty, smooth (60FPS). Drove the Mclaren - the rumble on the triggers is indeed awesome, and feeling the car through your fingers was really unique. To me personally, the game felt slow - I did not get an impression of speed, despite what the speedometer was telling me. But I guess if you like Forza, or racing games in general, you're not going to hate this.

FIFA 14.

I also don't play football games. My mate that came along said it felt pretty good though. And it was indeed very pretty...moving swiftly on...

Killer Instinct

Sooo good. The D-pad is brilliant, may the 360 controller d-pad rot in hell. Game was very responsive, looked great and seemed to hide quite a lot of depth - Whilst I button mashed like an amateur, my friend soon got the hang of a few moves, and was swiftly kicking my arse.

Ryse: Son of Rome

Good news Ryse lovers! I think this going to be a thoroughly enjoyable game. The combat...is NOT a QTE fest. So, as some have already suggested, it's pretty similar to Batman - the combat flows pretty well. You have a light attack on X, heavy on Y, special move on RB (depending on which God you ally yourself with) roll on B, Parry on A, wow the crowd on LB, and the infamous "execute" button on right trigger.

So how does the combat actually work? So bad guys rush you, you kick/slice/stab them about with X or Y, avoid them with B, or parry with A. There were NO prompts as to when they are going to attack (like Batman) rather you have to pay attention to their animations. So where oh where are these QTE's?

When you have fucked an enemy up enough, an icon appears above there head, or if you can time it right and have multiple enemies in this state, heads. Then you hit right trigger, which pushes you into the finish move set, where the enemy with flash with the colour of the relevant button - time it right, and you'll perform a grisly finishing move, with slow mo, on one or multiple bad guys. The slow mo is in no way annoying or frustrating, and it's nice and showy, and consequently, makes you feel totally bad-ass.

The game chucks more and more at you, with objectives like destroying catapults, capturing and defending areas, and some of the bigger bad guys require more technique to take out, combat rolls being particularly effective to get behind them and fuck em-up.

The animation was also pretty smooth - admittedly not as flowing as Batman, but perfectly fine. The rep confirmed the Ryse build was newer than the Gamescom build previously seen. Graphically, it was gorgeous. This game went from a "should be alright to have fun with" to a "I really can't wait to play this through". Co-op horde arena is going to be fun.

Here's a gameplay video (my mate is playing, and he wasn't great, but you should get the idea!)

Battlefield 4

Delicious 60FPS. I can confirm the game felt wonderfully smooth compared to BF3, but as all the sets were only 720p, I have no idea what the game will render at - but I have a funny feeling it's going to be 720p. I asked the tech guy on hand, and as soon as I asked that question, I got the "I won't get into that debate" response. So take that as you will.

Still, it seemed to play great, and we had a lot of fun with it. During respawn, you can see the view of other players in the bottom right of the screen, which was pretty cool.

Also grabbed a shot of the Kinect settings for the game:

Some pretty cool stuff there. Nothing too intrusive, just some nice addons I think. Didn't get to try out the head leaning feature, mostly due to sitting a foot from the Kinect, which was at chest height.

Oh, and as someone asked earlier - rumble on the pad was NOT active during gameplay for BF4.

Here's some gameplay. Apologies for my appauling camera work.

Dead Rising 3

My favourite game of the day. Plays great, no shitty framerate issues that I experienced, the number of Zombies on screen is bananas. Really can't wait for this.

Gameplay Video

Why does LCD monitor + Football = Laser Sword?! I don't know, but I fucking loved it.

So there you go GAF, anything you want to know but I haven't covered, just ask. I wanted to post as much as I could while it was fresh in my mind.

Awesome, waiting for those videos to render. DR3 was also my favourite game I played :D
And regarding combo weapons - it's what you have in your inventory and not in your hands right now - so you can press RB and scroll through your weapons, looking for stuff to combine on the fly. can be a little confusing at first but I think it's a neat system.

Glad you liked Ryse as well, was also really surprised by the combat - felt good.

Are you guys all just going to ignore the fact that he directly contradicted Phil Spencer and said that the Waverace game is completely playable with a controller? That is huge. At least to me. I'm back to assuming that Kinect Sports was delayed to add real controls to all the games.
