Some Super Mario 3D World Speculation (possible spoilers, but mostly speculation)

So to start, this is the first thread I've made on Neogaf even though I have like a 400 post count and have been on here since last December. In light of this if speculation threads like this one are against the forum rules please feel free to lock it/demote/ban me or what have you. :p

I would have posted this in a general thread about 3D World, but I chose not to cause of it's spoiler-like nature and the fact many members are on media black-out. If what I'm about to present is old news than please feel free to point and laugh at me. Anyways, while not mind-blowing I think Rosalina may be heavily present/maybe even playable in Super Mario 3D World. To make this easy to understand I'm going to list each piece of evidence numerically, going from known (1) to obscure/likely missed (3).

1. Green Stars and the Meteor Shower.
I'm positive all of you have noticed by now that SM3DW has Green Stars as collectibles and in the intro video a meteor shower can be seen in the background, what's interesting is that both tie back to SMG. The Green Stars being hidden within levels and the game opening up to a Meteor shower are both shared by SMG and SM3DW. What I find interesting the most though is why Nintendo would use Green Stars (an item that prior had been exclusive to SMG and SMG2) as collectibles when they could have easily just have gone with the bland star coins from SM3DL. I'm thinking this has something to do with Nintendo's vision of 'creating the ultimate Mario', both the Green Stars and Rosalina are elements from SMG thus in an attempt to pool together what's great about Mario, elements from SMG are returning. Considering the nature of these green star's I'm thinking they must unlock something, possibly levels or another character.

2. The Easter Egg in the Artwork.
As pointed out by GameXplain in this video near the very end (19:22), a secret can be found in the offical artwork of SM3DW. Most of you know this, but in case you don't in this piece of artwork
z4de.jpg

In the upper-right corner the Comet Observatory from SMG can be seen, it's hard to see from here since the image is so small but it's there. Now why would the developers just throw an image of the hubworld from SMG all the way in the back of the official artwork if they didn't wan't it found?

3. An Other-worldly stamp collection.
This is the Stamp collection from the game.

1xnf.png

There are 88 stamps to collect, but in particular there are 8 that I want you to focus on. The first (the yellow ones) is a collection of 4 stamps that are easy to discern what is hidden behind them, these four stamps are the player icons of the four playable characters within the game, they fit perfectly...

bae8.png

Yes I know they're not in black and white, but they fit. There are however 4 stamps that remain (the purple) that are rather curious. I"ve taken the liberty of cropping them out and blowing up them so you can see them better.

zby6.png

The first one seems to indicate that Rosalina may be playable in some form as it is also a character icon but, at least I think, includes Rosalina. The second appears to show Rosalina after she has taken damage notice the crown, the hair in the back, and most importantly the star-shaped wand. The third is clearly Rosalina standing next to several Lumas possibly serving as a general stamp for Rosalina. The forth I'm confident is the Toad Brigade Captains' new Icon, as the one shown at E3 (the last time we saw the Toad levels) was a placeholder. Anyway I'm going to wrap this up before I go any further, If I had to take a wild guess though I'd say that collecting a certain number of green stars will unlock Rosalina as character or something, regardless what do you think gaf?

Yeah, Im pretty sure Rosalina is the last playable character when you get the 100% just as Luigi was unlockable in SMG (that or at some point in the story).

The second one... joking of course, but it looks like megaman's face lol

Number two looks like a baby peach (or daisy or rosalina) and number 4 looks like megaman's head.

Seems I was not the only one to see it lol

Maybe it's Baby Rosalina or another alternate character?

The second one? I would assume it's just Rosalina shrunken after taking damage from an enemy.

Isn't 2 this princess thing from the intro?

640px-WiiU_SM3DW_10.01.13_Scrn11.png

Those are Sprixies,. There are a few of them on the Stamp sheet but none of the stamps I pointed out quite match the shape or hairstyle of that particular Sprixie, though I could be wrong..

Isn't that part of Rosalinas' track? Plus that's Mario Kart, while not entirely traditional in terms of past entries ,3D World is a 3D Mario game.

Yes this is from Rosalina's Ice World. It only serves as scenery in the sky, you cannot drive on it.
I wouldn't get my hopes up because even though it's MK, this is still an example of “hey let's put a random SMG element in the sky!”.

Rosalina doesn't have to be a playable character to make me happy.

I just hope we get some bonus Galaxy style stages

at least that's what I'm hoping the official artwork is hinting at.

1. Blob with a crown, it could be Rosalina, but honestly could be any character that has a crown.

2. Again could be Rosalina, but also looks like it could be one of the new small Sprixie characters. There's at least 8 of those new Sprixie characters aren't there?

3. To me, this one actually does look like Rosalina standing next to Lumas

4. Could be anything really I can't tell what that is.

Hmm...I think you might be on to something OP!

Looking at the first sticker, the outline seems to match pretty well. Although, it is quite similar to the Peach one in terms of hairtstyle as well. The main difference is the shape of the crown.

I also see similarities to her wand in the second sticker.

Plus, the third picture is definitely her, it has to be. Unless those starry things aren't Lumas.

I definitely think there are going to be a few big surprises in 3D world with regards to Galaxy. Looking at the bit of the world map that we've seen so far supports this:

There are only 5 clearly landmasses here that stand out to me as "worlds" that you would find a typical mario game. However, the key item of interest is the swirl of stars in the upper right part of the map. That suggests to me that we'll definitely be uncovering a world(s) in space which could have stage designs more reminiscent of the Galaxy games with throwbacks of characters, etc.
I hadn't noticed the hidden, potentially Rosalina character icon before, so that even further solidifies the idea that we'll get to travel to Galaxy locations and perhaps even unlock Rosalina for 100%ing the game or something similar. That said, I definitely need to go into media lockdown after this because I have a hunch this game is going to have a big twist like 3D land does, and I certainly don't want that to be too spoiled before I experience it for myself.

nice thread dude, I was already suspecting something like this might be the case, but pinpointing the character portrait stamps was ingenious. you've convinced me.

Interesting how this is going in the oposite direction of Super Mario World

It's not exactly rocket science to discern they are including and introducing new elements that will complement what they achieved in Galaxy/s, considering their success. A Space Hub wouldn't surprise me in the least, possibly a 3D World Star Road-type deal. The gravity-gameplay (or inversely walking around level structures) WILL return at some point throughout levels and possibly/probably be integrated into secret areas and all kinds of stuff. As well as hollow areas and such. But I think their doing a good job on focusing on what's "new" about 3D World rather than showering us with a bunch of remixed or new Galaxy concepts that'll surely be in the final game.

Gameplay-wise, I really wish they'd return to the player agency that was present in SM64, with that whole move set plus more, at least for Mario's character. If every character had a somewhat radically different skillset in the right hands it could make the level design and replayability god-like. And my idea of incorporating the Mario & Luigi-style RPG double team moves I still think is a great idea for MP, as well as my idea to add a branching RPG elements to the powerups (think "Extra Mario ROM mod", but way better), or even move sets for the characters. Especially if there was a type of NG+!

I think Nintendo NEEDS to put some other characters in case of two or more people wants the same ability. So, Rosalina may be in the game. Wario and Waluigi could be too. ;-)

Its in the latest trailer(not introduction video).

When mario uses the helicopter item box, to drop down and get a green star, you can see a coin with a key on it.

The coin keys work a little differently, though. So far it seems like you have to collect several of them, and when you have all the pieces it opens some progress gate. That might include secret exits too, but as of now there's no evidence to suggest it.

All I know is I better enter one of the final castles and eventually see Bowser and Giga Bowser fighting in the background, only to be trying to battle Baby Bowser and his Magic bastards at the same time. And eventually in the wake of their destruction creates a crazy difficult platforming path to progress through the level. Hectic, awesome, visually stunning and great level design and hopefully great OST for it all rolled into one!

It'd be cool if you could choose to let one of them win, or fight both at the same time depending on your skills, Ornstein & Smough style.

In any case a sequence like that fits right in with this years' whole multi-verse thing. And honestly the whole Mario universe of games is almost a multi-verse deal as it is.

The green stars work just like the star coins in 3D Land. As you progress through the worlds you will need certain numbers of stars to move forward. They are like the power stars in Mario 64 where you can't go to different floors of the castle or enter certain rooms without a certain number of them.

rrnNnKp.png

According to the main world map the Sprixie Kingdom only consists of 5 worlds to start out with. We know there are at least 6 because a level from world 6 was playable at E3.

jgjJJcmg071ou.png

I doubt this is World 6, but it could be. I think it's World 8.

The first 3 worlds are grass, desert, and ice, but their themes matter very little. The levels in each world are pretty much a medley with little adherence to world theme. World 3 features train tracks, though, so that could be where you first encounter the bullet bill train.

World 1 and 2 have 5 levels and World 3 has at least 7. I don't think they'll reach 88 levels with 8 worlds, which points to there being a ton of extra levels like 3D Land.

Why the emptiness in the middle of this map?

hmmmmmmm

It's almost certainly a callback to SMW where Bowser's evil amusement park of doom and family fun will be once you get there.

Knowing the secret only makes it more exciting!

I wish I didnt read this thread. Nothing will surprise me when playing this game.

You say that like we've seen more than a third of the game in previews at this point.

Isn't the alleged Rosalina profile just one of Peach?

Edit: I see it now! I just studied the stamps, particularly the circled ones and yeah there seem to be two different ones.

When you collect every green star, it peels back all of the backgrounds of each level and there's nothing but space and black holes. Turns out this was Galaxy 3 all along!!!!!!!

Nintendo should make Galaxy 3 and be done with it (even if it doesn't sell as well as the other 2). Make it a trilogy; there's still a lot of potential in those mechanics.

Maybe Rosalina is the story's excuse as to why you can rub around on your gamepad and have stuff appear. They just haven't revealed that because they don't want to get peoples hopes up or something.

Would love it if they pulled a Super Mario 3D Land and
there's a second half to the game when you think you're actually finished.

Would be great to see some SMG1/2 levels in that.

Rosalina for 3D World
Rosalina for Smash 4
Rosalina for Mario Kart 8
Rosalina for Mario Strikers United

Heck, Rosalina for every Nintendo game.
