You have been quite the warrior and perhaps the most prominent figure in the console wars if I had to figure. You are working hard and I for one am glad that we have a representative willing to communicate with us because we don't have the same thing with Sony. You sir deserve a good night sleep for sure.

oh my lord :lol
See this is why you get guys to do PR on boards
Yes nothing at all wen't badly for MS today

Absolutely nothing. Big deal, game "journalists" have a slightly different environment when reviewing if true. I guess it's slightly irritating to have to go up to a table to get your swag bag instead of just having it shipped to your door.

It's a big deal to journalists. They can't review the game under their own conditions. Most reviewers hate this. I know the reaction is "Boohoo, big fucking deal" and everyone will mock them.. but they don't like staged conditions when playing games. When you read reviews and previews, you won't be getting the full story. If MS does this too, it's just as shitty.

if they don't like staged conditions when playing games...maybe they should have stood up against it like, I don't know, 15 years ago when it started instead of taking the free vacations?

It's not hard to figure out. That's all I'll say on the matter.

I'll make it real easy:

1. Step 1 Read Dent's Post on GAF
2. Step 2 See Marcus's Twitter Post
3. Look at above picture

and yes I am speaking the truth

If I had to guess; Sony is not allowing the media to use video they recorded themselves. They are restricting the media to use provided footage.

Something along those lines.

So its about Sony's event on the 11th-12th?...and NOT this hinted at CoD event?...

Because 1. Mort mentioned that specifically (CoD) and 2. Dent said that the publisher said to not acknowledge that the event even happened...hinting that it already took place...

Sony isn't letting journos take video/caps at the review event. Do I win?

If Sony is starting to dictate how reviews are handled and even when and where, it would seriously tick people off especially those that have been doing reviews a set way for years. It makes sense why there is such anger. Might be enough for somebody to say, F it, I'm out.

Except that's how it's happened for a lot of other games. I remember Jeff Gerstmann talking about having to go to freaking Rome to review Assassins Creed.

There is literally nothing to see here. Just a bunch of journalists crying about not getting their cookies.

You know one journalist who wouldn't cry over this bullshit? Jeff Gerstmann. He would just be like "Whatever man. Fuck it, gimme a taco and let's do this"

I was talking about the Sessler/Dent/Gies thing which is what I thought was causing all the ruckus, as people appeared to be connecting that back to the resolution rumors.

As people have noted, and I was catching up on as I got online late tonight, they are two separate issues. There was also some other BS thing about advertising or console problems (?). Is anyone taking that stuff seriously or did that all die? Consoles are fine, and the advertising thing is completely made up.

So anyway, one of them has nothing to do with us. Whew.

As for the resolution stuff I hadn't realized there was a new set of rumors popping up today. On that topic, and as I've said in my previous posts, I don't comment on 3rd party games stuff. Not my area.

So nothing new from me, I'm not going to get into the fray on the resolution stuff. G'night!

For once I was just glad the other thing wasn't about us.

Albert, if your stance is that you will not comment on 3rd party than I respect that. Thanks for posting during the weekend.

It has to be the no youtube revenue for ps4 reviews thing because they cant review xbone games yet and bigger websites dont rely on youtube

they need to just separate the reviews into two videos
one they can collect ad revenue on and one they cant
im sure their viewers would understand and watch both videos
one quick "review" then a longer post review talk or one video with footage and one with talking
you know like depending on how the rules are worded
idk it doesnt seem like it can possibly be anything THAT bad

staged conditions make it easier to hide issues if they exist. Hence why the reviewers hate them.

Publishers have really weird embargoes sometimes... case in point, my review NDA for Kingdom Hearts HD:

Please don't reveal spoiler content.
Do not capture CGI.
Entire cutscenes cannot be captured.

So yeah, pretty crazy right? Especially for a 11 year old game...

It makes perfect sense if you just think for even a small fraction of time.

Those most likely to buy the game are those who never played it first time around. In an RPG, CGI = story. They just don't want spoilers, as they clearly said. It does not matter in the slightest if the game is old. Do you think that when game reaches a certain age somehow by magic its story is implanted in everyones head?

Which is what leads me to believe Marcus and Adam are talking about two different things. Adam has been in this business a LONG time. Staged review events are not news to him. It has to be something else.

How often does it happen? Halo 3 had it? A few other super big games had it, but it's not often. You know how it's worked before? "Ship us the game, and we'll review it". You can find lots of outlets refusing to review a game in staged conditions. Much harder to do when it's a full console's launch.

Garrett, those precious days happen once every 8 years man, you need to pour it all at once lol
Nothing wrong with being passionate about the release of these consoles, who isn't hyped?!
But you don't have to make everything into a competition between the two consoles.

can someone tell sessler and beer they're both like 40 years old and need to stop acting like whiny children

thanks

Yeah! Even though I kinda like Marcus. When all media/journalists were saying oh wait for the console to come out before judging DRM it's not that bad blah blah he ran roughshod over them in his videos.

The PS4 launch and it's accompanying games would probably be classified under "super big" so it sounds like it's par for the course. Doubt it's the full launch. Gies says he will have an AC4 PS4 review up next monday (before this event even takes place). It's probably just Sony's titles.

Sucks that journalists are shitting up a new console launch. We should start a petition to kindly ask them to shut up and do their respective jobs. Considering the gaming public, who actually buy their own games, is excited about new games and new hardware.

Hmm. So the PS4 doesn't allow you to save or transfer captured footage, you can only directly upload to approved sites?

I heard PS4 supports this thing called... Twitch & Ustream.

What, those services archives footage? And you can download them, do whatever you want with it, and also... gasp! Upload them to Youtube? What sorcery is this?

Best and most honest post I've seen from you I think.

To clarify - " I don't comment on 3rd party games stuff" and "I don't know anything about such and such" are two similar statements that carry an important distinction.

are they complaining about staged reviews or complaining because they didnt get an invite?

I do think the staged reviews are bullshit but they've been happily going along with that bullshit for years

I think Sessler, Gies and the other dude are just salty about not getting those invitations, that's all to it. They planned to overblow this situation as some kind of conspiracy theory about staging the reviews environment, and shaping jornos reviews to match certain corp desires.....some silly stuff

Also don't you find it a big coincident that those journos happen to be some XBOX die hards? Cmon people it's very obvious..they will all look silly around 12 Nov.

The big news here is X1 failure to output 1080p games, something will effect some clueless gamers.

Back on topic... CBOAT mentioned earlier today about waiting for launch day for the real ass storm. Anyone got any guesses?
Probably a variety of issues ranging from OS stability to Kinect functionality. CBOAT did say that he thought that 2014 would be a better idea for XBO to launch.

But they arent. Companies are doing reviews for PS4 already, Polygon specifically is reviewing AC4 on PS4.

That's still a Ubisoft game though. So, it's probably fine. Knack and KZ maybe have to be reviewed during these two days right before launch, as they're Sony IP. Which is inconvenient for them, but it's not this huge deal that started to make me worried.

Like I said, if it's not a monetization issue, it's not that big of a deal. Doesn't really matter if it's Sony or EA or whomever. It's not going to have an effect on normal people. Stopping monetization might though, as fans of places like Giant Bomb might lose content. So, crisis averted, it seems.

I'm going to bed. When I wake up nobody better be talking about Gies, Dent, Sessler, or who did or did not get invited to a god damn press event.

What is acceptable for me to wake up to:

- More truthfacts from CBOAT
- Supporting info from Kagari, Famous Mortimer and Thuway
- Anything Bish

Night GAF.

I really really hope that it does turn out to be video capture HDCP problems instead, because at least that's an actual issue worth maybe complaining about. If it's dumb press event politics, fuck that.

You spend months defending Microsoft for DRM issues, and yet you go ballistic over press/review events? What are they, 12?

With Marcus' new comments I am guessing it is

  • Review Event

PS4s are hooked up already for you

You play and review it using footage you did not record

People are getting upset since
  • It could be a device kit

Provided footage may not show flaws of said game
