I just want to say thank you, GAF. I've learned so much about so many industry folks over the last 24 hours that I feel MUCH more grounded as we move into this new generation. I honestly feel like this is one of the last places online to glean some legitimate and honest information without having to deal with corporate glad-handing and ulterior-motives.

Even though I'm on Mort's side, did you REALLY just use the authority fallacy? "Only those who do X can criticise X" is one of the weakest defenses out there. Only game developers can critique/review video games. Only filmmakers can critique films. Only stand up comics know what is considered funny.

We all know that the XBone will have a mandatory day one update. What if this day one update fixes all these issues? And no one gets "completely fucked" going online or switching apps? It's not like the PS4 won't be having its own day one update to do things like activate the blu ray/ DVD function.
Most Americans are sleeping right now, it will be bigger later...if the topic hasn't been closed yet.

Never. Not a single credible source ever said this. It was never implemented at any level. The only people discussing it were ones who hoped Sony would implement it to make the Xbox look less bad.

I for one do not miss the whole HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray fight that was going on. I just remember the arguments about which platform had better HD movie transfers and that the PS3 was really a value at $600 because it was a cheap Blu-Ray player. I'm just glad there are no movie format wars going on now.
General consensus is that both systems will have OS and Online issues at launch as to be expected
News is that the XB will have significant live problems that may take months to solve

The mp having significant problems is going to be HUGE imo Dont think all the cod/bf/etc.. players will be happy on the xbone.

This is amazing.
I think most insiders do a bang up job of providing free advertising without such things happening. This place started the NoDRM campaign which was basically free positive press for Sony. Why try those kind of tactics when clearly there is no need to? This thread and all the other negative news surrounding the Xbox One are also good examples.
I want to stand up and clap for all the things GAF has done. Okay that's a lie, but it's the thought that counts.

And saying MS can't possibly mess up since they ARE an OS vendor after the well publicized issues they've had recently with say...Vista...Windows 8, Windows Phone OS's until maybe the most recent (and I'd think the Mobile OS segment would be closely related to the console OS space), isn't exactly closing the subject with confidence.
That being said, I'm sure both consoles are going to have SOME nagging bugs and missing features for the first few months. That doesn't mean that getting one day one is "stupid." You'll still be able to play some fantastic games. It's just that there will be some things that need to be fixed and added. This happens with just about every complex OS/hardware system that gets released these days and doesn't necessarily mean that one company or the other simply wasn't ready for the launch. Although..MS does seem genuinely disorganized this time. Still, that could just be poor planning and organization, not the result of having to RUSH anything. Look at Sony as well- they planned for this, seemingly fairly well too, but there's still a day 1 patch coming to put some features in. It's just the realities of product release in this day and age.
Microsoft was more rushed than Sony. Although they had plans in place pretty far back (you've seen some of this paperwork leaked to the media) they were behind when it came to decision making and execution. I don't remember a recent console launch that wasn't rushed with bugs & missing features but I think in this case MS has been more constrained than a typical one.
