Deadly Premonition PC port locked to 720p, no gfx options (nm, Durante fixed it)

PC is only hooked to TV. No KB/M from couch.

And seriously... the store page says partial controller support.

Can't you simply request a refund from Valve? That's probably what I'd do if I was mislead. Perhaps it takes a few weeks, but hopefully you get the money back eventually.

I robertredford.giffed when I read the thread title. Seriously, Durante deserves a cut of every sale for this and Dark Souls, god bless 'im.

Normally wouldn't be so bummed... but I seriously doubt the developer is ever going to put controller support into it.

So, yeah, I guess I need to ask for a refund.

No thanks. I want native controller support, I don't want a hacked emulation of tacked on mouse controls on an analog stick.

Then maybe do more research before buying and downloading things for 20 bucks that you could have found out by visiting the forum for 2 seconds.

Also, props to the dude for the fix. Only reason I bought Dark Souls was because of the fix. I picked this up because I knew that even if it released in a messed up state, it has enough of a cult following that it will be made better by modders.

It's not as smooth but it's virtually the same thing. If you really wanted to play the game with a controller it's better than nothing.

It's a console port. Has there ever been a console port in the last 6-8 years that hasn't had controller support?

Why would I possibly think I needed to research whether it had controller support or not?

Do the cinematics run terribly for everyone? They are running between 15-20 fps and non stop stuttering, yet opening those movies in wmp they work perfectly fine.

You'd think that'd be the case, but Bioware's Mass Effect and Dragon Age series don't even have native XInput/Dinput support built in either.

I agree with you in principle though, not having even XInput/DInput controller support when the 360 pad has been the defacto controller for PC for the past generation or so is just inexcusable. Not to mention the game already has a 360 version, which would imply 360 button prompts and controls wouldn't have been difficult to implement at all.

Actually yes. As someone who grew up on consoles, controller support is only really becoming the norm since Steam started Big Picture Mode.

Hell, even Battlefield Bad Company 2, which I owned on 360 for a year before switching to PC, doesn't have 360 controller support.

Expecting it is only going to result in situations like this.

More research? The store page states very clearly it has controller support. That was false advertising, and you can't blame customers for falling for that.

No, games that fully support the controller have a huge picture of the controller in the main blurb about the game, with giant text telling you to try the game in Big Picture Mode.

This says partial support, which is exactly what you got. And hell, it might even work with other controllers. It doesn't say 'partial 360 controller support'.

See: http://store.steampowered.com/app/234080/

Also, this will all change when Steam Controller is released. You will be able to map the mouse to a trackpad and set it to 1:1 movement. Going to be a game changer. My 360 pad is dragging a bi to the left on the right analog, but there is no way I am ever giving money to MS or Sony for their shitty controllers. Steam Controller from this point forward.

Bioshock 2, Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3.
But "partial controller support" on Steam is supposed to mean the controller works in-game. It just might not have the right onscreen prompts or work in the menus.
If it really said that on Steam, then someone dun goofed.

That's a nope. Just about every port of a game that was also on 360 has controller support (I know Battlefield 3 is an exception, and I guess BBC2 is the same way). Big Picture Mode surely influenced PC exclusive games to include controller support, but has nothing to do with console ports having it.

This game's page even says it has partial controller support, which means there might be a launcher before you get into the game, but once you're in, the controller will... control it. There's really no reason to think it wouldn't and people are rightfully surprised about it.

What does that even mean? I'm not even sure what defense force this is...

Partial controller support means the 360 controller can be used to control the game, but some non-crucial gameplay elements like menus may still need keyboard or mouse.

This game has no controller support whatsoever.

Not true, I heard the B button works.

Not sure why but the game does not seem to have any problems with a wired 360 controller plugged in for me. I have it plugged in a rear USB port (if that is worth anything).

This means I was able to map a Pinnacle profile and play the game with controller support! - :)

LUCKY ME! No analogue walking though, having only 8 directions really sucks with the new camera. But since this morning this game was going to be locked at 720 with no controller support, and I am now playing it at 1080p (thanks Durante) with a controller, I can't complain! :)

So it's worth trying it out people! I know many people said the game bugs out with a controller plugged in bit if it works for me it must work for others too!

I am going to share my work in case it works for others. Even remapped the keys the best I could so prompts on screen make sense to the controller! Take a look -

EDIT - Tonight I will work on a button swap to a second layout for driving. Right now the driving is awful since W (up on the left stick) is accelerate and S (down) is brake!

Main menu and movies are borked, DoF and shadows are still low (unchanged) resolution, but still: 1 hour and 19 minutes after the steam download finished, we have a 2560x1440 render.

EDIT: thanks for this Durante. Made one of my favorite games playable on PC.

It bothers me greatly that neither From nor Bamco ever so much as acknowledged DSFix.

It is no stretch whatsoever to say that Durante's hours of hard work earned them thousands of dollars, yet they can't even take 20 seconds to tweet something?

Not only is not including rendering resolution options absolutely unacceptable, but to not thank somebody who did much more work than you would have had to for no guaranteed pay is just pathetic to me.

To relate to this topic, it's great that RSG are man enough to thank him, and if somehow they did work out an official fix with him it would be nothing short of great.

Hopefully RSG fixes controller support themselves since it literally makes no sense that controllers don't work in a console port, and the a/b/x/y support implies that they meant to support controllers.

Wish I wasn't so slows. I've spent 30 min scratching my head. Pinnacle has my head running in circles (confused).

Not actually that important
It's not as smooth but it's virtually the same thing. If you really wanted to play the game with a controller it's better than nothing.

Not even close to being "virtually" the same thing, xpadder/pinnacle profiles for kb/m>gp mean there's no analog movement so both camera and character's controls will always be super clunky.
I mean, I can't get accustomed to it for e life of me and believe me, I've tried... YMMV but it's far from being "virtually the same thing". Shitty practice to acknowledge partial controller support on the Steam page when there's none.

Big props to Durante, regardless I have to say no controller support = no buy.

I seriously give up. I've failed so hard with the Dualshock 4 on PC. Couldn't get it to work with Battlefield 4, and now this. To be fair, I didn't buy the DS4 to use it for PC, and it just came out. So I'm not really mad. But lol I've wasted way too much time trying to figure this out. Shame on me. Going to just put this controller away (for the 15th, so excited) - and just get back to keyboard and mouse and play these damn games.

Thanks again to durante for making the resolution playable. Time for some York.

Just map the buttons the same as mine shown above in the games setup page before launching. And download and import the pinnacle profile above (redownload it because I have improved it in the last 10 minutes). Then as long as your wired controller is selected in Pinnacle, you can START the profile and then launch the game/. You should be good to go. Oh and make sure "Joystick acceleration is off in Preferences/Command. That shit wrecks look movement on the right stick!

But yeah mapping in Pinnacle is a real pain. It's super advanced and can do amazing things, but it's awkward to use. And buggy!

Shame Xpadder's mouse look support sucks (jittery) because it's MUCH easier to use.

Actually the mouse look in pinnacle is as good as any professionally mapped official game pad support (at least with joystick acceleration turned off).

So other than on screen prompts and of course analogue movement, it is often "virtually the same thing". The lack of prompts and analogue walk making it only "virtually".

In a FPS, not a big deal. But the loss of analogue walking is a major bummer in DP.

Durante has done more development of Japanese PC games than Japan itself... -_-;

Kinda wish he'd get paid for this. :|

Don't give shit about the resolution. Fix the driving, the map, the audio and the controls, the shooting mechanics (basically fix the entire gameplay). As long as the framerate is STABLE I'm good.

I assume they'll fix none of it though and I'll have to wait for unofficial mods.

Wait, there is no game pad support at all?

Wow, just....wow.

So far it seems like the known issues are the map being offset and the enemy ghost effect rendering at the wrong location. I'll try to have a look at those tonight.

It's a console port. Has there ever been a console port in the last 6-8 years that hasn't had controller support?
IIRC, none of the Mass Effect games support controllers.

I don't know about you guys, but I am NOT getting the smooth framerate that some others claim to have gotten. It looks like a weird slideshow when the gameplay starts. My computer is new and is pretty good machine that has handled everything I've thrown at it with ease, so it's not like it doesn't meet the specs. Also when i got to the point where it wanted me to switch weapons, my cursors was constantly moving down. It would not stop. I noticed it did the same thing when I went into the options menu as well.

Had that, restarted PC and it went away.

Now, though, I'm contending with a worse issue: if I watch any cutscenes, the game crashes. Durante, pls.

@durante: as a fellow countryman (or at least as someone who lives in the same country as you) I just had to say I'm very proud of you :D (even though, like I said, the resolution is the least of my worries)

Now go on and fix the gameplay ; )

Anyone find out if they fixed the zooming on the map from the other versions? I always question how they thought it was a good idea to have a pretty zoomed in map and have the slider zoom in even more.

Holy shit.

Durante you are amazing.

Mad props. I've always wanted a PC version of this game, non-broken of course.

RSG might actually get a sale from me, thanks to you.

We owe you, big time.

as annoying as that is..the fact that it automatically rotates is even more infuriating. Shouldn't be that hard to fix that..right? RIGHT?

This works pretty well, the aiming feels great, but for some reason any time I try to take out a weapon the weapon wheel just starts infinitely scrolling.

Doesn't seem like there's a way to stop it either. Does this not occur for you at all? I've heard of others having the same issue on the Steam forums and they were only able to fix it by unplugging their 360 controllers.
