From their HR managers' twitter.

Looks like more and more games are being made with CryEngine.

Update:

It might only be their Austin studio?

Now that is interesting. Is UE on the decline? It feels like there are very few games announced that use UE4.

Dishonored 2. CryEngine.

Man I aint heard shit about the Unreal Engine 4. I know with everybody having their own proprietary engines it wasn't gonna have the chokehold it did during this generation, but damn its like it fell off the map. I haven't even heard about Epic Games next title.

The only studios I know that are using it are Black Tusk Studios with their new Xbox One IP and Lionhead with Fable Legends.

Anyway, Dishonored 2 with CryEngine 3 will be amazing.

So what the point of Bethesda having Id Software now if their studios working on cryengine for next gen projects instead of id-tech 5? ( and Doom4 seems to be in development hell)

Good I like that engine more than unreal, or at least the current gen version of it. I think it's strange hardly anyone that we know of is using UE4 though.

Wasn't that confirmed back when those emails leaked and Jason from kotaku was called a press sneak fuck? :lol

Well, three games use idtech already, The Evil Within, the new Wolfenstein and Doom 4 is supposed to be on track this time "or else..!!!"

Not that bad, we'll see if more titles are announced using it soon - a year from now.

Can id tech 5 match CryEngine feature wise? I am not that familiar with these engines, so maybe CryEngine just is the better one to use.

It will interesting to see what WB and 2K are doing with their studios. They are almost the only ones left at this point.

I missed the news. I googled what you said and just read about the leaked emails. But how does the CryEngine bit relate to being used for Prey 2.. it could be for some other title.

Well Monolith have always used their own Lithtech engine but I could see Rocksteady etc using UE4.

dunno... but it might be because id-tech 5 don't support open world, so if Arkane want Prey 2 or Dishonored 2 to be more open/full open world they'll need CE3.

still tho id software should've prepared id-tech 6 by now (was in development iirc) to give Zenimax an engine good for all their games and studios, but it seems like that is not the case. id software seems like going super fast to shutdown land because of how useless they are for Zenimax.

This news is very interesting. CryEngine looks nice, but very few developers used it in current gen with good result. Let's see how it will turn out in next gen.

FYI, this is HR person for Battlecry and Arkane Austin, who are working on a new Prey, not Arkane France, who are probably doing Dishonored 2.

Battlecry are definitely working with Cryengine, but I dunno if Arkane Austin are. Could just be a typo for condensing both studios into one tweet.

Rocksteady ***has*** to use UE3 up to 2014, per an exclusivity agreement WB signed with Epic.

WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT LICENCES EPIC GAMES' UNREAL ENGINE 3

NetherRealm Studios and Rocksteady Studios Will Utilize Engine Exclusively Through 2014

Burbank, Calif. - March 17, 2011 - Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced a long-term studio-wide license agreement with Epic Games to use the award-winning Unreal Engine 3.

The development software will be available for any team developing a Warner-published game across PC, console and mobile platforms and, through 2014, will be the exclusive game engine used on projects being developed by Rocksteady Studios who are currently working on Batman: Arkham City and developed the critically acclaimed hit Batman: Arkham Asylum for WBIE/DC Entertainment, and NetherRealm Studios, the team behind award-winning Mortal Kombat franchise for WBIE.

"Unreal Engine 3 is one of the leading development tools available for today's creative teams and it is a perfect fit for both NetherRealm and Rocksteady," said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Mortal Kombat and Batman: Arkham City use the engine's state-of-the-art capabilities to provide the important foundation in bringing gamers the experience they are looking for."

"We're very excited that the talented production teams at NetherRealm and Rocksteady will continue to make Unreal Engine 3 their exclusive core technology for the next few years to create the exceptional titles they are so known for," said Mark Rein, Vice President, Epic Games. "We look forward to seeing how the engine will contribute to the upcoming games from these teams and potentially other Warner teams and external developers who develop or publish with Warner."

There is no point. Only one full game has ever been released using Tech 5, and that game took five years to complete.

It is almost certainly a trainwreck.

I don't know if I should be happy that developers have gone off Unreal engine, but whatever Arkane game with that engine should be sweet. Dishonored had great art and character design despite UE 3, but here there wouldn't be limitations.

I guess because they started to address the ridiculous licensing.

Hopefully they continue to improve the engine in a non-technical way, it's clear that it is very capable.

Exclusive engine agreements? What's next, exclusive shaders?
What the heck is up with UE4?
Xbox One timed exclusive

I think we'll end up with the same stale, homogenised looking games elsewhere.. doesn't matter much to me. Maybe Epic got too greedy?
