The only things that i don't like/ need confirmation on is.

Youtube not being a source for share button captures. I have facebook, and creating a facebook page to store them ain't a huge deal, but still, youtube is preferred.

And 2. I wan't to know for sure what HDD i should be buying to upgrade. The FAQ says 9.5mm, i've heard 12.5mm fits? Can i use seta 3? 7200rpm? I need to know, would like to get this stuff ready for launch day.

Wait, I just checked the EU blog... I had read the wrong price.

Games are set at £59.99 RRP!
And 69.99 euro.
But not in the US, oh no, they're keeping the old 60 USD retail there.
What the hell, over 30% markup.
This is the real bomb right here.

I am very disappointed about the lack of MP3 playback/DLNA support. However, it does not impact me personally, as my PC and PS4 are connected to the same two TVs in my room. I still want to see them add it regardless, especially for those who want to stream their music to their living room. One thing that I will miss, though, is the ability to create walkup music in MLB: The Show. And to those complaining about the restrictions by devs when capturing gameplay, remember the HDCP for gameplay capture will be removed soon. You would not be limited in what you capture and post online. Of course, you would need to buy a capture device to do so.

I am replacing my 360 with a PS4 on my TV in the Den. I use the 360 to stream movies from my PC. Can I not do that with the PS4?

So let me get this straight... it's up to the developer if I can use ps3 fightsticks or not?

I have the TvC stick and the Injustice stick, and I want to be able to use them on Injstice ps4...

As of right now, no. DLNA support wasn't on PS3 at launch either, it came 6 months later. This support could be added at any point, or it may not be. So I'd leave the 360 there for DLNA playback as of now. Planning on doing the same, but with my PS3, until they patch this in for PS4.

@yosp just linked to the PS4 Q&A on his Twitter. So any moment now he's going to start reading all the feedback about DLNA.

The £59.99 RRP in the UK is a laugh no retailer in there right mind would try that unless its COD or a GTA game.

Hey guys I have an Ipod next to me so you guys shouldn't care about MP3 support..

Stop QQ you guys."

This needs to stop. We shouldn't cloud the situation by arguing against features just because you don't use them. I assure you MILLIONS do in fact use them. I stream using PMS daily and I LOVE playing SSX with my music that reacts in-game to what I'm doing. I also greatly miss Rhythm games that allow uses of your own music. I'd kill for an AudioSurf on PS4. We need to think outside ourselves for a minute. These aren't expensive features to implement and we can all benefit from them. It's a no-brainer!

Pretty lame that only facebook is supported for share videos at launch. I guess I can upload them to facebook, rip them from there and then upload to youtube but that's a bit of a hassle for something that's supposed to be simple.

Here's my question I posted as a comment on the blog. Still awaiting a response, maybe somebody here can speak to this?

I'm in the same boat and when I got a vita I realized the true nature of the problem so I said fuck it and got a master account with plus and I haven't looked back. It's ridiculous though I even called up customer support and made some lie about how the master account owner died and I couldn't order games so I needed to upgrade a sub account.

While I am upset about the MP3 issue, this does make me happy that I have my computer connected to my TV and I only watch Blurays.

Sorry to those that are upset about the DLNA issue, and I hope it does get added soon :(

Right so other then MP3 files not being supported, from what I can gather using other content such as video files via USB works fine right?

The whole media server / DLNA support not being supported is something that can be added later after launch if there is enough demand but I personally never used it.

I'm a PS4 guy, but it's inexcusable for features to be stripped out from one gen to the next. These consoles should be constantly moving forward, not taking steps backward.

That includes anything from rumble tech, to Media Center Extender, to 7 controller support, to .mp3 playback. It's bullshit and blind defense of stripped features just for the sake of defending your favorite console is getting ridiculous.

These omissions of basic PS3 features is BS, no ifs, ands, or buts.

"A bit of a hassle" is a bit of an understatement. Ain't nobody going to do that.

It's disgusting isn't it

It honestly seems like all the praise went to their head, and they have fallen back into the old Sony mindset on how to screw over their consumer to get that extra penny.

Why does it always have to be a battle with companies making it them vs the consumer; just do what we tell you to do ffs. Its not rocket science and yet every company seems to make this mistake.

And yeah, all the people saying its launch don't worry, then bloody well say that. Is it that hard to say "Not available at launch but will be released in future firmware updates". I still wouldn't be happy but it would be understandable and I would be relieved knowing it WILL come. Now I am not so sure, it seems like they want a controlled box that tries to force their own products on the consumer at their expense. Seems pretty damn intentional. Buy our blu rays, buy our music service, buy are overpriced games... damn lucky that the launch selection is pretty shite now I guess. Won't be missing much once I get rid of the thing.

Also, this is us moaning, Joe Public won't be reading this forum or that blog. They will go in blind turn on their machine and think, right lets get this the way I like it to look (as they would their smartphone). Oh I can't do that. Hmm ok, I guess I will chill out to some music. Damn, that doesn't work eh? Alright, I guess I will go and get a game. Hmm not many games, ah here is one... SIXTY QUID?! Fuck this, I will stream some videos instead.... yeah... I can imagine many people getting slightly annoyed by this new generation.

Oh well. I will just move my extra Apple TV from the bedroom or leave the 360.

SIXTY BLOODY QUID!! For a disc!

Hell no, I thought they said it would be in line with current gen?

Jeez, apart from the early adopters the UK sales will likely tank at those prices. Xbox One will start looking cheap after a few games if they have prices at current gen. What a waste of money. Hopefully sales are affected so they amend this rubbish, although some will eat that shit sandwich and call it the best they have ever eaten.

Madness.
PS3 game have a £59.99 RRP, it's right next to the price you pay

In keeping with Sony FAQ style:

No.

But the answer is a maybe?!? You can grab stills in games how would you manage them if not?
I don't believe that, thats crazy

It's a launch console (for now) and guess what they want to make sure works? The games, how they run, the online and all the little things that go with the games and online. It's first and foremost a game console and they are treating it as such... even if a few things still suck that aren't there off the bat.

I don't know man... there are quite some missing features in the FAQ where they say it'll be patched in a future firmware update... MP3 and DLNA support are not amongst them.

I doubt it there isn't any indication that the PS4 will even recognise external storage such as a USB memory stick unless its in "safe" mode.

Agreed.

There's zero excuse for it.

I am however thankful we're actually getting fucking concrete information from Sony about what's there and what isn't. Regardless if the information sucks or not, it's good to at least be told the damn truth.

Looks like Sony sees more competition in the US. It would be interesting if X1 prices are lower in Europe then the above. Some reason though I doubt it, but we'll see.

In an ideal world we'd be able to play any music via DLNA and have it playing in the background while playing a game. Nothing offers that apart from iOS devices and PCs as far as I'm aware.

How many PSN friends can I have on PS4?

PS4 supports up to 2,000 online friends, an expansion of the 100 friends limit for the PS3 system. On PS4 you can quickly expand your friend list by connecting with people you’ve played with recently as it does on the PS3 system.

The PS3 system will continue to support up to 100 friends at one time. If you build a friend list bigger than 100 on PS4, network servers will automatically filter your friend’s list when you play on a PS3 system. Additionally, you will be able to set and lock a pre-determined friends list to be used while you play on the PS3 system if you wish. Support for the ability to display all of your friends in most applications and games is planned, however, some titles will be limited to the current 100 Friends limit.

Surprise surprise, Sony forgetting about the Vita. I need a higher limit on my Vita, goddamnit!

PS4 marketed as a gaming system. People mad that it's not an entertainment center system.

Sony didn't reserve all that ram for system use if they didn't intend on using it. More features are coming and it will get closer to being the ultimate living room device, but until then I think it's a bit much to deem it 'unacceptable'.

Those upset about the themes: notice their wording. It won't work *as it currently does on PS3*. We could get themes and customization options later that don't work exactly like the PS3 themes. Worry not.

:(

That's so dumb. I mean, how hard is it for them to change a username? I've changed my XBL gamertag twice. It's not the most important thing in the world but for something so seemingly basic it doesn't make sense why they won't allow it. Anyway, that's my two bits. Sorry for those who wanted to change their PSN IDs.

This actually reminds me of something. Is there a way to check if a PSN ID has already been taken? I might get a PS4 first and I want to know if someone's already taken my idea for an ID.

I doubt it there isn't any indication that the PS4 will even recognise external storage such as a USB memory stick unless its in "safe" mode.

The "safe mode" quote was referring specifically when installing the first software update. Why would they go out of there way to specify not supporting MP3, but not other file types? Seems odd to me.

EDIT: Not being able to use external drives or media servers is a big step backwards. I think the agenda is quite clear here, at least for now that they want a closed environment so that users have to purchase from their store or use the apps available to access content rather then from alternative sources.

Ok, I tried to find this in the FAQ but couldn't. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question (I'm pretty sure it is, but I just need confirmation):

PSN and downloadable PS3 games were coded for the PS3 architecture.

PS4 has totally different architecture.

So I'm guessing that just because PSN carries all the data over to PS4, that doesn't mean I'm going to be able to play those games. Sound Shapes and Journey and Okami HD et al aren't going to magically start working on the PS4.

If that's the case, and all I'm missing from my PS3 PSN account is trophies, fuck it. I'll just make a new PSN name (cause I hate mine) and start with a clean slate for PS4 games and just keep the PS3 around to play PS3 content/games.

I think it's more people mad about stuff that was there in the PS3 more than anything. And even in the case of the MP3 thing where Music Unlimited is the alternative, MU isn't available in all countries.

If DLNA support will be added later, then they need to come out and say it. Although it's still sad not to have it launch. The damn thing is x86, they could literally use the XBMC backend wholesale and overlay their own UI.

I feel bad for people that used custom music, but I never had the desire for that. I prefer to experience games the way the devs intended.

As for media server support, I am disappointed about that, but I'll just continue to use my PS3 for that.

Wow I did not expect no DLNA or MP3 support. I kinda assume most of the PS3 media capabilities and features would be present in the PS4, I assumed wrong.

I might actually hold off purchasing one next year as its a feature I used constantly. Hmm I'll have to think about it.

Surprise surprise, Sony forgetting about the Vita. I need a higher limit on my Vita, goddamnit!

They already did. It will work the same way as PS3. Showing the 'top' 100 users starting with online users first, and then showing all offline users alphabetically until the total of 100 is reached.

It's really a fair compromise.

can someone explain me the 160 gig hdd size thingy?

I´m allowed to "upgrade" my hdd but only with a smaller sized HDD??

someone enlighten me please

Custom music is kind of a must for online gaming, like FPS, RTS, and MMOs.

Single player stuff, I agree with, though.

Gotta say Music Unlimited is inferior to Spotify in every single way. Got a year's subscription for 10 euros, which is a tenth of what Spotify costs, but would not resubscribe at full price =(

Actually it will work that way within games. If you start the friends app on Vita, it will display up to 2,000 friends.

It sucks that the PS4 can't do basic stuff the PS3 could yeeears ago. MP3 playback, DLNA streaming, generic BT headsets.

This seems thread worthy to me:

"Across different games" suggests to me that their plan is to make suspending of games be something more than just for the game you're currently playing. Like you could suspend Knack. Start playing Killzone. Suspend Killzone and then resume playing Knack and have it be exactly where you left off. Anyone else reading it this way?

160GB is the minimum size you can install, not the maximum.

Pretty much only relevant if you were planning on putting an SSD in there.
