gintama and danshi kokousei

edit:
Nichijou, Kill me Baby, azumangah daioh

I actually just finished the first episode of Danshi Koukousei, which was hilarious, had it open before i made my post. I've heard a lot about Gintama too, so maybe i should finally give it a try, the big amount of episodes is a plus because that way i don't have to change series every 12 episodes or so.

Friend tried to introduce me to azumangah daioh, but it couldn't really capture my interest and the art style just wasn't for me, i try to look past the character design if the content is good, but nah, i just couldn't get into it, maybe i was just too tired to really pay attention, i've been watching some Nichijou already, i had to since those deer german suplex .gifs are being posted everywhere and i had to see what the show is all about, haven't been watching it further than the first couple of episodes, though, and that was a long time ago...maybe it's just the way these series look, Kill me Baby seems to be more of the same.

try the Zetsubou Sensei anime. Of course there's also Seitokai Yakuindomo.

If you decide to venture out of your comfort zone to a hidden diamond among anime, I highly recommend Detroit Metal City. Though that show is hilarious for other reasons, not those you listed.

Detroit Metal City seems like my thing, i watched the first episode this morning and i was already laughing at their hardcore song lyrics, they really got some attitude alright...

haven't heard of Seitokai Yakuindomo, tried Zetsubou Sensei, but didn't pick it up after the first episode.

Watching Ouran High School Host Club right now and it seems to fit most of your criteria. I'm enjoying it a good amount too.

Seen it, i enjoyed it quite a bit too.

edit: now that Polar Bear Cafe thing looks ridiculous enough for my liking.

.

In conclusion, Lelouch did it on purpose. He wanted to, the show says he does and, oh why I do believe he flat out says to Suzaku that he did. Suzaku even records him saying it.

That was nothing but lelouch taking responsability for the accident.
At that point , considering the circustances was there anything else he could have said ?

I think you're giving me too much credit, honestly. I'm not really looking to be scientific about this, and circumstantial evidence will suit me as well as any other. Perhaps I give an air or impression of being scientific, but only to my mind as I address the problem of accidental activation of Geass, which we all take note of as being an instance of bad writing. My argument relies most heavily, I would say, on the fact that the writers must've known they had really stretched for that scene to happen, and then didn't ever bother to try and cover up by showing someone else experience it.

But then, most of R2 can be summed up as "They just didn't care" anyway.

Ultimately, I think the cause of this mess is that they mostly cared about collectively making an entertaining show and the director in particular cared about having some core themes underneath that, but they never really cared nor put much thought into explaining the mechanics of Geass as a power in detail, other than in direct or indirect service to either of the above. Which is bad form and they were clearly rushing it, but since I believe that was tertiary to either of the two main objectives, I'm curiously fine with this.

In any case, it's time for Valvrave!

Yet another entertaining crazy show, though one where Okouchi seems more willing to explain most of the space vampire mechanics in the process.

It is possible if Kyousougiga continues putting refried recaps in front of me while people wrongfully exclaim it is the show of the season. Now a live action recap? If we move forward with the story and they keep up with the brilliant parts that I saw early onwards, my opinion might change. Otherwise, yea, this is going to be the Watamote of the season.

I thought you were saying it won't be the best show of the season. Make up your mind!

Imaishi continues to deliver.
I was wondering if they'd actually let Ryuko take down one of the E4 this early in the series. Glad to see they didn't. And hell, he even got a power-up. Also dat equality.

I couldn't get into Azumanga Daioh either. The humor heavily relied on the whimsical feeling and the moe girls being moe so it never stuck with me. Maybe I needed more ridiculous situations, which the other shows have. It's awesome you liked Daily Life, loved that show. As to Nichijou it's a shame you didn't keep going, it gets better as it keeps going with more ridiculous skits.

Seitokai Yakuindomo is definitely worth watching, and keeping up with it. Some of the most openly sexual humor I've seen in anime and almost zero ecchi. Zetsubou Sensei is definitely something that could be seen as an acquired taste because of its bizarre nature and its very abstract second season.

As to Polar Bear Cafe, the show is not ridiculous. Don't know what you're expecting but the show is more about an extremely light hearted comedy with some great characters aimed at reviving your childhood wonder and getting rid of the cynicism many of us get as we grow up.

Ah, I see, some of you missed that last season, I shall be brief, Watamote was and is one of the most agonizing and worthless anime titles I have ever had the misfortune to watch. I guess Kyousougiga would never become that, but still, I wish it would bloody wasting my time and get on with things.

The live-action special Episode 5.5 isn't a recap; it showcases the location scouting that the staff did in Kyoto.

Incoming 50 page argument! >_<

Probably the best episode yet. How they're gonna keep this going for 18 more episodes will be something.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure TV 17

This episode ended up being more interesting than it appeared to be at first. I liked the fight because it had Jojo's tricks being turned against him
though of course Jojo thinks faster in the end. I had to laugh at the decisive blow being accomplished by a geometry puzzle.

So what's the standard way the Pillar Men's names are written? Should I write Wamuu or Wham?

His name on Wikipedia as well as the Jojo wiki is "Wamuu," which is reflected in how his name is written in kana (Japanese Wikipedia confirms that the group is just "ワム!", which makes sense, considering the long "u" wouldn't make any sense at all), but I've always called him "Wham."

The reasoning behind ACDC/Esidisi is similar (the band AC/DC is エーシー・ディーシー, with long vowels; the Jojo character is just エシディシ).

I think calling Cars "Kars" is extremely stupid, frankly. I think it bothers me for the same reason that Mortal Kombat's insistence on respelling all words that start with a hard C with a K does.

I don't think they really have official romanizations in English yet, so until All-Star Battle comes out next year, just do whatever you want.

I mean, I guess the English subs on the Japanese Blu-rays are "official," which might be where those romanizations came from (I honestly don't know).

Samurai Flamenco 5

I wonder if we're ever going to meet Goto's girlfriend. Their relationship is really in a rut and they exclusively communicate through texts now. She tells him she won't see him until he becomes happy. Then he takes the action of being a proposal to join forces with Samurai Flamenco, something pretty long coming.

It was kinda tough watching Hazama become exposed to that director and how jaded the man became with his job, how he had been directing superhero shows for two decades and was so bored with it he couldn't even remember anything he'd directed. This seems to be one of the central themes of this show; people becoming jaded and worn down by the mundane routines they do every day. Goto is a big example of this. Hazama and Mari are others, as they really only get into things when they are being superheroes. Hell, it's when they're doing this on the side when they're most effective and enthusiastic at their jobs.

Ending was a fairly long time coming, but that doesn't make it any less exciting. More Moe-san to come as a result? That would be nice.

Well, that's great. It has just avoided the pointless filler of most harem-y shows. Good thing that this confirms that Tada Banri isn't spineless. i do wonder how Linda is going to shake this up somewhere down the line

Team Linda for sure.

Haha, all I could think watching that scene is that losing his memories might have been a blessing in disguise.

Seriously. He's less of a punk now and doesn't need someone to "watch over him". Big baby.

..But, he did
just run away crying and hid in a toilet stall for hours so maybe the old Banri is coming back

Thank you for the detailed info. I can confirm that those romanizations are indeed used in the official English subtitles, and I will stick with them in the future.

Golden Time 6

The return of the tea club was good to see. Episode really went heavy with the drama after that. They sort of rushed it in a way because I don't think there was enough transition from fun to serious.

I assume we are going to get a love triangle out of this.

Samurai Flamenco 05

I would actually imagine the police would be a little more concerned about how Flamenco Girl keeps electrocuting and bashing with a mace the bad people. They just seem a little nonchalant about this all.

I have literally no idea how you could even draw that from what I've said. You're confusing the issue for what reason, here? To make a snappy statement? Because I've been perfectly clear on which form of activation I don't think exists.

I'm not trying to confuse the issue, I honestly can't see how Rolo is relevant to the point you're trying to make any more. The reason you brought Rolo up in the first place was as an example of someone who used his Geass a lot but it didn't
activate "by accident"
. But we've established that neither of us thinks
a Geass would ever activate by accident EXCEPT for the moment when it transitions from "under control" to "permanent"
. Since Rolo's Geass never made that transition, I can't see how his situation makes any difference either way.

Oh please, I know you're mad that you argued my argument, but trying to turn that back around is silly and beneath you. What I said in no way invalidates my statements or supports yours. Trying to take the other guy's statement and say it supports yours is an old and withered tactic. Neither of us needs to rely on such cheap theatrics any further.

Not cheap theatrics. This is my honest opinion. If you're accepting that Lelouch
honestly believed that he didn't want to give that order to Euphie
- and it sounds like you're not just accepting that, but outright asserting it - then that's exactly the main point I've been trying to make this entire time and there really isn't much point arguing about it any more.

Though since I just thought of a fun counter to one of your arguments, I guess I'll keep it up a little bit longer for the heck of it XD

In conclusion, Lelouch did it on purpose. He wanted to, the show says he does and, oh why I do believe he flat out says to Suzaku that he did. Suzaku even records him saying it.

Okay, my interpretation: Lelouch didn't do it on purpose. He may have done it on purpose on some mental level, but that wasn't the main mental level that we actually saw him expressing or that the series depicts as his own main interpretation of events, so we might as well call it "subconscious" as anything.

The show itself does not, at any point, say he did it on purpose. If you have any evidence to support that particular claim, then please present it, because I can't spot it in any of the arguments you've presented so far.

And yes, he does eventually say to Suzaku that he did it on purpose, but that scene is actually one of the biggest reasons why I dislike your interpretation of Lelouch's actions.

The entire point of Lelouch's confession in that scene is that it is a lie. Lelouch, who has been deceiving the fuck out of everyone to get what he wants, is being offered one final chance to be honest, to try to redeem himself in Suzaku's eyes by explaining the truth of what happened, that it was all just an accident, that for once he was actually not in the wrong, that he was actually trying to do something good.

But Lelouch recognises that he has committed to his path of "darkness" so far at this point that trying to be honest, to hang on to the small amount of pure "goodness" he has left inside him, would be pointless. It would be an uphill struggle to convince anyone to believe him, and it wouldn't even serve his purposes any more. So the lie he tells serves as a final decision to abandon any last shreds of hope at traditional redemption, to accept the fact that he will never be seen as anything but a villain, even by his one-time good friend.

This is one of those few scenes in R2 that I actually feel is well and meaningfully executed, and ties in perfectly with the themes of the series as a whole. Your interpretation turns it into an honest confession of guilt, which I don't think feels nearly as meaningful as a decision. Everyone already believes he's guilty; there's nothing especially meaningful about confessing to that. The only reason the scene holds meaning is because he's denying the one piece of pure goodness in himself that he himself knows to be true. Committing himself to the decision to fully "become" the villain he's constructed (and this is the decision that leads to the Zero Requiem in the end).

...And now, on a different note, the new argument I mentioned I've come up with!

You've been saying that one main reason you think Lelouch
activated his Geass intentionally
is because otherwise it would be too big a coincidence for his Geass to
conveniently lose control at the worst possible moment
, right? And that
all the thoughts and actions of regret he had immediately afterwards were just him trying to justify it to himself, to pretend it was an accident
, right?

Well, actually...I don't think that's possible.

If what you're saying is true, then
his Geass didn't accidentally activate. Rather, he intentionally activated it, and that intentional activation was the trigger that caused his Geass to become permanent. But isn't that just as huge a coincidence as the one you're trying to avoid? Of all the hundreds of times he used his Geass, this particular one, the big one that he wanted to deny to himself, just happened to be the one where it became permanent, thus allowing him to pretend it was an accident?

In fact, it's not just a massive coincidence, it's actually a contradiction.
If Lelouch had intentionally used his Geass on Euphemia, and it had just happened to become permanent when he did, he wouldn't have known it had become permanent, so he wouldn't have been able to pretend seconds later, even to himself, that it was an accident. The only reason he realised that his Geass had become permanent was because it issued an order to Euphemia when he wasn't trying to use it.

So in fact, I seem to have even managed to disprove the "subconscious" theory that I previously thought was possible.
To explain Lelouch's realisation that his Geass had become permanent, that order had to be a direct result of his Geass activating of its own accord, so it can't have been triggered by any intention of his own, conscious or otherwise!

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure TV 17

So what's the standard way the Pillar Men's names are written? Should I write Wamuu or Wham?

The spellings that don't match the band names make much more sense! because in the original Japanese, their names are intentionally given spellings (and indeed pronunciations) that don't quite match those of the original bands. They're intended as thinly-veiled references, not as using the band names wholesale.

I think the arguments people give for using the actual band names fall into a few different categories. There are people who point out that Araki does use an awful lot of band names wholesale later on in the series for Stands, so the same should be done here. But that's ignoring the fact that those Stand names use the same spelling/pronunciations as the original bands in the Japanese, whereas the Pillar Men names don't. They're intended to be different kinds of references. Particularly in the case of Wamuu, his name has a long vowel at the end of it. The stress is on the second syllable. This would never be the case in a Japanised pronunciation of a word where that final "u" vowel doesn't even exist. So turning "Wamuu" back into "Wham" is just twisting the name almost beyond recognition IMO.

And then there are the people who use the original band names simply because they think they sound better. But I'd argue that the opposite is true. It sounds frankly stupid for ancient beings to be named modern-sounding things like "Wham" and "ACDC". Being called strange-sounding names that only vaguely resemble modern words, though - that makes sense for remnants of a lost culture.

Incidentally, Cars/Kars is the one borderline case where his Japanese name does sound exactly the same as the band name. But I'd guess that's just because the name is so simple to begin with, there wasn't really much to do with it. I prefer the "Kars" spelling personally because it's more in line with the other two, and looks less silly since it's not a modern word being used wholesale. But you could definitely argue that one either way.

Acchi Kocchi

This show gave me as many heart attacks as I was expecting, which is a lot because Jesus Tsumiki, JESUS. As cute as the show may be I feel that most of the comedy fell flat or simply wasn't as charming as your usual SOL show like Kiniro Mosaic or even A-Channel. Also I want more of that delicious Christmas cake onee-san, UNF UNF. This is basically mostly for the most :Cajun of people looking for something that's unhealthily cute and fluffy with not too much else.

Pretty solid episode. I liked the idea the director portrays about being jaded and passive. The idea that the two Flamenco cover each other's weaknesses is cool too. I should have seen that ending coming though. I feel there is going to be a wave of Flamenco's soon

Kyousougiga TV is slated for 10 episodes and we're 5 episodes in and they've all been background/flashbacks on characters. If the next 5 [actual] episodes aren't current/present time in the show I don't know how they expect to finish the story.

I noticed something great with the tone this week too - The director's tone and manner of speaking when replying was a lot like the older cop Goto works with when he was replying in the first episode. In both cases, we're looking at young adults working in a field which children probably find glamorous based on their perceptions having conversations with senior people in the same field who are jaded and no longer interested in passionate small talk about their career.
