So Target shipped someone an Xbox One already? [Update: console-banned until launch]

Using a OS is different.

Besides most people here use windows for PC gaming. What can you do? Switch and mac and lose 98% of the games you bought on steam?

You're still supporting the company, however. I'm just saying if you can't stand MS, hurt them where hurts, don't buy any of their products. Consumers really should flex their muscles.

I'm a Mac user, though I don't think your message was directed at me. I avoid MS products at all costs.

No not you. I had no idea what PC platform you used. I was just positing generally.

I see Kotaku jumped on this story and followed it along with us, posting his tweets and keeping people updated. Kudo's for reporting on stuff in a timely fashion!

Hmm, I'm sure they'll get around to updating that the console was banned any minute now...

The youtube thing is what gets me. Those views could've earned him thousands of dollars.
I hope he sues Microsoft and/or Youtube.

I have no words for this situation. Why are they so anal about breaking street dates?

He got banned for posting youtube vids. Not for playing his Xbox One games offline/online.

Uhh he's probably just banned until the 22nd, if it's permanent then yeah that's fucked up, but I seriously doubt it.

This is ridiculous from Microsoft, what exactly did this guy do wrong? its not his fault he got his console early, he is doing exactly what everyone else with a social fanbase would do upon receiving their console!

I sincerely hope MS get sued for this, this just epitomizes everything ANTI-Consumer about them and the cherry ontop for everything they have done wrong with their PR since their announcement.

Cant believe MS screwed up probably one of their biggest PR positive spins...I was enjoying watching this unfold and I had no plans to buy an x1.

There are alot of gamers who would want to post pictures of getting something early. The temptation is simply too great for a lot of people too ignore.

but the verge article does say the MS RP said the other guy was free to do what he wanted with it right?

English isn't my first language but it seems being free to do what he wants with it includes playing online and posting videos on youtube.

Wow that sounds like it would include going on Live and uploading videos to Youtube, don't you think?

I'd agree with that, we really need to know all facts before blasting either party. Anyway, at least it clarifies you can use it early. I won't be uploading any vids if mine arrives early though, just to be safe!

It is to maintain a fair competition. If there were no punishment for breaking the street date, the stores who get their stock first would have an advantage (as in they could start selling things early) compared to the stores who get their stock maybe 1-2 days later. I think it is good that they are strict on keeping the release dates, but this responsibility is however on the stores themself, not on the customers.

EDIT: I fixed a typo.

Isn't Microsoft the one that's pushing that this is the generation of sharing? Now we know what they mean - sharing only what they want, when they want it. In other words, they want to give you the power to spread their message ... But, if you're off their points, you're fucking screwed cuz they'll take you down.

It's bullshit. There is no reason to ban someone for sharing videos of a console when they've frelling released unboxing videos and UI videos themselves! There is no defense for the behavior.

And that's how it starts, one random Joe post his speculation and others just take it as fact. He didn't post anything except for unboxing on his YouTube channel. Holy shit, it seems like Microsoft apologists can make up anything they want to make Microsoft look better.

I will blast Microsoft for banning his console, that is all levels of fucked up.

English is my first language and that's exactly what "free to do what he wants" means.

Press sneak fucks are in a tizzy because some of this shit is still under NDA for them until next week. Microsoft wants to control all info and when it's released, it's that simple.

That makes more sense.

NO it doesn't....he didn't sign any forms, he didn't agree to not post footage of an item he bought and paid for online. He's not a fucking paid off journalist, who had to sign top secret NDA agreements with the cooperations before opening the system. It was his to do what he wanted with it, and no fucking street date should stop him from doing what he wants with something he legally purchased, and was sent to him early by mistake.

God...this is bull shit that anyone is finding a reason that this is okay.

It's called picking and choosing your battles.

Sorry i enjoy owning a home and don't want to sell off my business and be homeless because i don't like microsoft. Sure, let me just stop working on windows based machines, stop selling windows and just shut up shop, lose my house, sell my car and live under a bridge.

Get a grip on reality. Just because i dislike their consoles and don't approve of everything they do with said consoles or their actions on said consoles doesn't mean i absolutely despise every single bit of their company. I happen to enjoy the lumia series phones.

It took about 30 minutes or so to fully install ghosts I believe. Not positive, time has been FLYING by tonight

Does that mean the X1 can't play games while installing from disk like the ps4?

It's the same thing for both consoles. When you put in the disc, you have to wait for the first "chunk" of data to install. Once that's installed you can launch the game and start playing and the system will continue to install the rest of the game in the background.

BTW both Sony and Microsoft have a limit to the size of the initial "chunk" of data so it will never get out of hand. The "You can start playing at 50%" part is also not set in stone. I mean, depending on the full game's size the fist chunk might equal 50% (like we've seen in this thread) but it might equal 25% or 30% or whatever. So don't get hung up on the exact % number, this will change from game to game.

guys what if... and this may not be crazy (given its a weekend as well)

What if current Live thinks that the Xbox One is a modified console (which is why consoles get banned in the first place)

so you connect in and don't have a special gamer tag (that the media get for reviews etc) so connects to OG Live lets say, it reads the hardware, and says nope thats no 360.

Now, this is potentially a bit nuts, but i imagine this entire system is automated. If it is, then it would read the hardware for differences to a 360 (and a One come 22/11 or even now perhaps) and ban appropriately.

Not defending the actions, just putting it out there.

Amazing at Microsoft managing to turn potential good PR to bad PR.

Also amazing are some of the idiots defending Microsoft. Sure they're allowed to ban everyone using Xbox Live if they want to. That doesn't make what they did right or something that should be defended by any consumer.

Actually the PS4 can play from the disc as soon as it is inserted.

Oh I agree with you. This isn't black or white. There's not liking MS's console business and enforcement policies in that division, but being satisfied with other offerings.

I'm just saying if you're raging about MS on a daily basis online, instead isn't of just raging, boycott their products.

But I know that MS's scope is wide--IT, Enterprise, etc., so it's not possible for everyone.

But if it is something you can do, hit them where it hurts. I'm just saying that consumers should exercises their voices.

On ps4 you can start playing instantly.
Killzone is like that for sure.
