When he can prove that he paid for the console at Target and that it was 100% their shipping error, they will reverse the ban. That's what I'm assuming here, yes.
If they don't... well, they deserve the shitstorm. They'll probably just leave his console banned until launch day.

i would agree with you guys aside from the fact this is NOT how it worked with the 360
and not because of the millions of users, its just the system.
They probably have numerous checks and balances to go through before they ban a machine. after all, they wouldn't want to do it unnecessarily (despite whats happened here but its a unique situation, which i am not defending)

Well they have someone sitting there watching YouTube 24/7 apparently. And the banning came soon after. There aren't many XB1s out there to connect right now, I'm sure it wasn't hard for someone to tell which console was his. Put 2 and 2 together.
well this is a unique situation as i said. as i floated before its entirely possible the check he was sent to is a 360 one and it thinks its a modified console because its not looking like a proper 360
outrageous? quite possibly but not beyond the realm of possibility given we are 2 weeks out and a whitelist definitely exists.

This has to be the WORSE kind of PR for Microsoft, at the WORSE time. I'm sorry, but Sony don't pull this kind of crap for early releases. I got my 60gb PS3 3 days before launch, and I didn't get banned. People got their PS Vitas ahead of street date, and they didn't get banned. This is why Microsoft gets so much bad press, because they earn it!

not them specifically. Specialist company hired for lead up to launch to watch youtube. these companies exist purely to do this and are contracted to do it

It's just hilarious that MS 1st banning is before the launch has even happened.
So according to MS, youtube videos of the console are totally ok because that falls under "it's mine to do with as I please".
Well if they unban his console either on release day or soon after then it would help their PR.

Fixing a mistake will rarely result in a net positive. They would really have to go out of their way to make this PR that can be considered "helpful".
A) It'll probably never ship early so he can say whatever he wants. And
B) That's not what happened here either.
Looks like they blocked access to Live because its not ready. (or broadcasting an unfinished product).

We're talking three weeks out, not a month or more before when none of that stuff is ready and showing it in an unfinished state would be bad for marketing.
He cannot connect to live but apparently can play games still. This ban may be something new since Xbox One is a new console. But as far as I know, Microsoft does not lift console bans.

So the lesson of the day is that if you receive an early MS console and post a video of yourself unboxing it, please remain anonymous and untraceable aka wear a ninja suit, voice modifier, use an alias... Or your console am banned. Right?
