So Target shipped someone an Xbox One already? [Update: console-banned until launch]

MS have become an expert at shooting themselves in the foot.
This guy was the best PR they've had in months, just a genuine dude saying positive things about the Xbone.

And he got banned.

Glad Major Nelson is helping out. Microsoft should have never banned this guy in the first place, they really need to fix the automated systems..but at least they're trying to help this guy out.

Good thing my Xbox One purchase is to support games then. You may reconsider one day.

I have other consoles to do that...MS have been anti consumer from the start only backtracking after outrage, and this isn't a great way to start a launch.

I don't see an issue with banning him until the 22nd.

If he remains banned after that, then yeah that's fucked up.

lets fix this sentence

"don't see an issue with him not being able to access the service until the 22nd"

thats a much better way. 'ban' is such a harsh word that MS should not be using and implies bad things

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I saw this thread last night but didn't comment on it now I see the updated thread title and I can't help but comment now.

Microsoft had an opportunity here. Let's think about it for a second, how many positive threads on the XBONE that made it past 10 pages (100ppp club). Not very many that I remember.

Here MS had an opportunity to build some hype that didn't involve their putrid PR which is an extremely good thing and what do they do, ban the console and throw a little more gas on the "Fuck Xbone" fire. Well done. Jesus.

This really makes me want to get an xbox one, everything looks so cool. Does anyone know if we can play our game while downloading on xbox one aswell?
You won't be able to play games while you download the day one update, but other downloads after that should allow you to play and download at the same time.

C'mon guys, the console was in this guys hand waaaay before street date. It was probably a fail safe on MS's behalf to ensure they didn't have a batch of consoles get robbed from a warehouse and for them to go get sold on eBay.

Give MS a break. Nelson is already sorting it out.

"Here, sign this NDA and we can unban your account!"
I agree, MS will offer to unban for an NDA. Here's what's interesting if you're this guy. Do you:

A: Get your access to Live back, or

B: Decide to ride out your 15 minutes of fame by posting more screenshots and info on Twitter, make a bigger name for yourself so that in the long run you'll have more followers on Youtube and generate more income.

I bet he picks A.

That's cool that you have other consoles to do that, what I'm saying is my purchase of an Xbox one will be to support games not so much Microsoft. Generally don't care about who makes the console. I reckon they aren't doing too bad with their launch. Preorders are high and clearly people are hungry for it. It'll come out and folks will play it and then I'm hoping to looking at the first page of gaming discussion and see gaming discussion and not all this anti-X company/console nonsense.

Major has had a thankless job this whole launch. I feel bad for him, I've met him and the podcast crew a few times at PAX-E. Really hope he can get it sorted for the guy.

If it came down to sign an NDA and don't talk about it til launch day, I'd take it.

Nelson has always been a major tool. He might as well be wearing a green leather gimp outfit with an x branded on his exposed buttock.

Hyperbolae aside, many would have more respect from the man if he were at least reasonable and unbiased towards even the negative aspects of MS, rather than be the ultimate apologist. It would give his opinion more credibility. But no, his tone is too submissive to take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Its a job he's chosen. No pity for his flack.at.all.

Whoa this thread exploded. Is there a summary?

Guy supposedly ordered Xbox One (not day one) at target.com on Nov 4th and it showed up yesterday.

He already was a youtube / twitter contributor with gaming related stuff, so he does an unboxing video and posts it to Youtube

The then starts tweeting pics of the dashboard like a mad man, stuff we have never seen

Then he plays COD and plays with snap and stuff

MS take his Youtube video down

The console got banned

He goes to bed - meanwhile stories are breaking on Kotaku, The Verge, etc.

Major Nelson is on the case

Whoa this thread exploded. Is there a summary?
  • Guy gets Xbox One shipped early from Target
  • Decides to post video of an unboxing on YouTube
  • Continues uploading images via gyazo of the dashboard, Xbox Games Store and whatever else you'd come across on the console
  • Browses Xbox Games Store and shares images and details of what is available, descriptions and whatnot
  • Video gets flagged on YouTube
  • Console is banned from Xbox LIVE
  • Users, going from graphic whores to lawyers in the matter of days, believe that Microsoft are abusing their own Terms of Use and the ban was not justified

Do you have a job at all? In PR specifically? I'm assuming not from your post and personal attacks on a fellow neogaf member.

I'm sure this point has been already brought up, but I can understand why MS would take measures against people leaking stuff like OS operation, etc, mere weeks before the console launch

but the way this has been handled...-shakes head-

Glad to see Major Nelson is on top of this. Hope it works out for the guy who did nothing more than get us all excited about the Xbox One.

Well yeah, but when ignoring the negative is what is putting food on your table, you kind of have to be that dude who looks the other way. I'm not saying it's right, but I'm saying it's his job.

He's reaching out, hopefully will get a positive resolution for the dude, even if it's just a way to make his job easier. I used to listen to the podcast up until the e3 reveal and it became the head in the sand hype machine, before that they would talk about games on Wii U, PS3, 3DS, etc. Now it's all just "Hey here's Phil Spencer to tell you why the internet was wrong, and we were right!".

Okay thanks, I guess that what I meant, if I can play a digital game while it downloads in the background.

This leak was so early that my bullshit meter went off - I figured there was some shady business going on. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Thanks guys. Glad his Live account wasn't banned. Major Nelson needs to get his console unbanned ASAP and I'm sure he will. The dude wasn't even mad about it going by his tweets haha. Sounds like he was really enjoying it.

As someone who does: guy obviously has an employer who's very, VERY precise about messaging. I don't think it reflects badly on Larry Hyrb as a human being, if anything it shows that he's dedicated and conscientious, but the "Major Nelson" character has never seemed to be particularly focused on keeping it real.

It will reflect well on both him personally and his role if he does manage to come through with a no-strings unbanning. On the other hand, I don't think he'd necessarily be to blame if he can't; Frank O'Connor is definitely legit and -he- apparently got overruled during the Halo 4 PR debacle.

he works for them.

what else should he do, given his role?

he wasn't. only sonygaf has found another reason to be angry about a console they will never buy so the rest of gaf have to suffer it. it's getting tiresome.

People who can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p are graphic whores?

Someone sounds bitter.

What's I'm shocked that no one is really talking is the fact that it takes 25 minutes to install a game before you can start playing it (Installing 40-50ishGB games from Blu-ray that only need to have half of the game installed to start will NEVER take less than 15-20 minutes)

Remember when when people were bitching about the PS3 installs?

From what I've gathered the PS4 doesn't require any mandatory installation of game prior to starting as it does it all on the fly....

so COD didn't crash?

I don't think the higher ups are needed for this ;)

Really? Someone is leaking things you obivously have kept under wraps for a reason. They obviously have a launch strategy and this wasn't a part of it. Sounds like it would require someone high up to look into it and make a decision.

That may or may not have happened but things will be sorted out once proper people are notified. The issue here isn't the single user in particular but how to handle this situation as more and more cases arise the closer we get to launch. Being that he's the first he gets direct attention.

Don't do this.

Or this.

It's not an MS / SONY issue, it's a consumer rights issue.
