PS4 Remote Play - Two screen multiplayer (NfS: Rivals)

That probably wont work...didnt they say last week that remote play needs to be like real close and on the same router lan(inside your house...)
They said for optimal performance. If you have good enough upstream and downstream on both ends it should work just fine. Latency will obviously show. But I can still mess around with the menu and die a lot in the game!

lol no. From the moment Remote Play appeared 6+ years ago on PS3, it worked both at home and away from home. Outside from home, lag can destroy good gaming experience, but we need to test this with PS4 which has much more streamlined remote play service than PS3.

Holy crap I just thought of something...

Since I can't pick up my PS4 until Friday morning at 8am... And I need to work that day... I'm going to get it, set it up and enable remote play -- head to work with my PSVita, and play with the PS4 from work!!!

Man its going to be SO awesome!!!

Think I'll put Knack in the drive before I leave too! =D
Good luck with that, Sony explicity says that Remote Play is best used when playing on a LAN. I believe that the amount of connection latency between your home and your work would never make it worth it.

It doesn't require that, but it probably won't work all that reliably over the internet. It's going to work best in an Ethernet (PS4) - WiFi (Vita) or direct connection situation.

Hmm, this is good news. I really hope more games do this (D3 pls).

Saves the $60 for a new controller if you already have a vita!

Maybe we could get some Wii U style asynchronous mulitplayer?? eh? eh?

That's Cross-Play between two versions of the same game. There isn't a NFS game on Vita this year.

Oh, no shit :|

Well uh, more people should play Spelunky.

It will work fine outside of home at short [sub 100km] distances and a nice 802.11n router at the end. 100km is ~15ms max, even with really shitty infrastructure.

Vita seem like a required companion to PS4 to me now. Good stuff. Play the DC fighting game against someone in your house while you're on the toilet!

Since Remote Play has its own dedicated resources I don't think there will be a downgrade on the TV?
Remote play isn't generating two different renders from two different viewports. There will be a resolution cut for each screen, just like how it would be if you were playing it split screen on the same TV.

Wait? PS4 is rendering 2 separate fullscreens of gameplay for local coop?

Sony never mentioned that before. They only mentioned pure mirroring. Greggy needs to reconfirm this.
They actually did, PS4 can support up to 4 PS Vita local co op

YESSSSSS!!!! FUCK YES!

Local play is revived! Screw split-screen.

Okay, buying - if I somehow get enough cash :p

I didn't even know Knack supported that, pretty neat.

True, perhaps in these situations it is down to the individual developers to patch such support in.

No, that is 4 exact mirrors.

Greggy mentioned 2 distinct views for PS4+Vita coop. That is something different.
Beautiful.

No, that is 4 exact mirrors. For example playing Rayman or Diablo, every screen shows same gameplay, but each vita control its own character on screen.

what are you talking about I have done this on Wii U

Of course, i didn't mean that the WiiU can't. I thinkt the guy on twitter asked if it wil be like WiiU (as in render two screens) and he got it wrong and said yeah exactly (thinking just about the remoteplay part)

I don't think the other guy in the picture (the one playing on tv) is on the same game session.

Oh I I misunderstood. thanks for clarifying.

next gen is going to be pretty awesome

Wait, so is it working or not?

"two screen multiplayer" seems hard to confuse

Nowhere did he confirm this was running off the same console. I think what he meant was one person can be playing the game via remote play and can play multiplayer with someone else online.

Bog standard stuff.

Ah I see well I hope it works well enough for you to play the game...keep us posted on Friday to tell us how well it goes... ;)

The thing is that the "network distance" between two routers isn't always related to the physical distance between them. The packets in this example could go to the other side of the country only to come back to a nearby location ms later, and that's more than just 15, it all depends on service providers.

This isn't new, Knack supports this. I guess it's new in the sense that we didn't know NFS: Rivals supported this.

I thought the Vita screen would mirror what the PS4 is displaying on screen, that certainly seems to be the way Knack co-op works. I don't think both players seeing their own different views is something we've seen, but I could be wrong. Sounds pretty awesome though.

it is a little confusing but I think Miller is smart enough to know when someone asks him "is it like the Wii U where one person has the TV and the other has the VITA he knows what they mean"

It sounds like you can have local co-op with one person on the TV and the other person with their own view on the Vita.

this is how it works on Sonic racing and Marvel Lego on Wii U and see no reason why this would not work here.

What they said was you can connect up to 4 PS Vita to Ps4. There was no specification whether it had to be the same feed on all 4 or different feeds. Of course it depends on the game, racers need different feed because you are controlling the separate cars while in diablo, the camera follows a main player and you have to keep close to remain in veiw just like little big planet.

What? So what you are trying to say is remote play works with online games. I don't think that's what's going on...but we need clarification.

I think their might be another TV+PS4 setup to the left, can sort of see a console shadow, perhaps it's connected with that.

Also I have hope thanks to gaikai and stuff that remoteplay might not be too bad even outside your home.

the reason why it might not work here, is that until now we were only ever promised that the Vita could mirror what was on the main screen. the PS4 hardware would have to be capable of rendering and streaming a separate viewport for this to work.

which, you know, you'd think they'd have mentioned.

are people sure this isn't the tablet/smart glass esque thing where the other player is dispatching choppers etc. That will work on Vita too.

There's nothing stopping individual devs programming support for such a thing in their own games though.

Split-screen already is rendering the same image 2-4 times, can't see why split-screen games can't support spitting that out across the network to Vitas and Vita TVs.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
So happy that this saves me from buying another controller.

Could be, of course, we just never knew of that till now, and i think they would have already said this if true.
And you can't see from the picture if they are in the same session (the vita is on a track, the tv one in a menu)

And just to be clear, one player vita and one player tv will 100 % work as long as it is only 1 screen, like we have already seen with Knack. The only question is if it can render two seperate pictures, like required in a racing game.

Of course i hope that it will work with 2 different screens, that would be awesome!

they can only do this if the PS4 *hardware* supports doing it. at no point before has it ever been suggested it can.

You mean from the OS side? I'm sure the PS4 hardware can handle this. (even if it requires graphical downgrades on certain games, which happens with split-screen anyway).

Rendering 2 different screens would be awsome but i dont velieve it.
Scott is probably playing through RP from a second PS4 standing in front of him.
You can even see a cord comming out off this second PS4 on the left!

They have a video encoder and decoder in there which can probably do multiple video streams simultaneously so it probably won't be that hard.

If you look at Gregs twitter someone asks him "wow two players at the same time with thier own screens???"

he responds to other people and does not correct that guy.

I am still on #teamtwoscreensonegame

Did some more Googling... this isn't local co-op. NFS Rivals is online multiplayer only so this thread is pretty misleading.

How the hell are they doing this?? I though remote play literally takes the video output and sends it to the vita? So they can instead send a hidden screen? That's fantastic, especially as I have preordered NFS:Rivals and have a vita. Does the game have normal split screen too?
