Media Create Sales: Week 45, 2013 (Nov 04 - Nov 10)

Vita isn't going anywhere... in Japan.

Outside of Japan is another matter. The system sold 48K units in German for the first 9 months of the year. It's YTD through September in the US is 250K.

Im referring to members putting vita in the hot seat for selling so poorly when the wii u is selling much worse, and after the wii at that. Then have the nerve to complain at my goal post comment when if this were last gen, the 3ds would've been the a "failure". The 3ds would be luck to get psp's numbers after all is said and done. As smokey said, vita is not doing great but it's not going anywhere either. The revisions and vita tv are indicators.

Wut? The 3DS is at 13.7 million in two years and nine months, and the PSP at 20 million after eight years and 11 months.

It would need a Kanye West GBA-like premature interruption for the scenario you're suggesting.

I don't think it's too early to talk about a handheld successor from Sony.

Or rather, I don't think it's too early to talk about how there won't be one.
All high end xperia phones/tablets being able to play vita games with a separate iPod touch like model for dedicated handheld purist seems really likely to me. There also might be a chance that they won't limit it to just Sony smartphones but I doubt it.

Remote play was the reason I got a Vita. I can see it picking up some extra customers once the PS4 launches and people see it (hopefully) working.

Not expecting gangbusters or anything, of course.

That's basically how I see Vita, or rather the Vita's internals surviving in Western markets - as a PlayStation TV microconsole and inexpensive PS4 accessory/second room extender; with the actual Vita also simply becoming a [more expensive] accessory.

Vita is dead outside of Japan.

Remote Play certainly will not change that.

Yeah nothing is changing the tide in the west this late, but as an accessory to PS4 it should do ok. I think I'm honestly more interested now in how Vita TV does in Japan than 3D World. If people are actually interested in Vita's baseline could theoretically go higher than the PS3's ever was as cheap as it is. Unfortunately Vita's lineup presents problems for the long term with how irrelevant Sony is software wise.

3DS still has 2 more mainline Pokemon games left in it, at least.

Successor will be here in 2016, but 2015 (and even 2014) will be pretty slow, especially compared to this year.

Are you counting remakes as mainline?
There has been hints in-game that they are making a new set of games that will take place in a new region. As for whether that is the next set of Pokemon games or not, that is unknown.

After B2/W2, we don't even know if they will make a singular 3rd version either or direct sequels. It's up in the air since it seems they're going to do something different.

If they want they can also release Pokemon on 3DS after the 4DS is out like they did this time.

One thing to note, with all the failings SCEJ has with the Vita it has actually managed to cultuvate its biggest IP in a long while in Soul Sacrifice. It's honestly surreal because SS didn't actually put out amazing numbers, but it did better than anything SCEJ developed for the PSP or PS3 (I think?). In fact Gravity Rush is pretty up there as well. So while Sony's internal support for the device might seem slim they are actually doing better than they were with the PSP. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter, but it is a fun comparrison to draw.

Any reports on how Vita TV is doing?

Something is very wrong with the way you aproach handheld market.

edit: At the end of October 3DS topped 2012 software. 2 months remaining with one being December.

3DS sales took a boost all around the world. I can't see why it can't reach PSP numbers considering how it's currently selling and if they manage to keep this up.

Not only that, but 3DS still isn't as cheap as the DS was when it really took off. I think PSP numbers are more than doable.

This is clearly the new norm, now. Every week, people praise the Vita for dismal sales. I have to wonder when people will wake up and realize just how bad it's performing, and take note of the fact that Sony seems content to just let it die, or at most transition it as some kind of luxury PS4 accessory and not it's own proper game platform.

You'd be completely justified in making that comment if this were an NPD thread, but it isn't so it is hilariously wrong. If SCEJ were content with letting it die they wouldn't have launched a new hardware revision, and alternative sku. They wouldn't have talked to third parties to ensure the platform has a release list that looks healthy. They wouldn't have Soul Sacrifice Delta, Gravity Rush 2, Freedom Wars, Over My Dead Body 2, etc. in development.

White Knight Chronicles, Gran Turismo 5, Hot Shots Golf 5, and Tokyo Jungle all did better than Soul Sacrifice. Though SS will probably surpass the latter.

Nice use of "etc." there. Unfortunately, it's filling in for one or two more titles.

Sorry meant new IPs. And you're right WKC did better.

So how much do you think the 3DS will sell in Japan for the rest of the year? Considering it includes the holidays, I'd assume the 3DS would sell at least 1-1.5 million units (1.5 would be pretty high imo).

Let's see, so the 3DS sold 80k this past week. If it were to sell at this pace for 7/8 weeks, it'd already be between 560-640k easily. Now if the 3DS were to sell let's say 450k in the last 2 weeks of the year (xmas and new year's), we add 290k to that baseline.

840k - 930k

I'd assume in addition, the releases of One Piece, Puzzles & Dragons Z and to a lesser extent Zelda (I'm cautiously optimistic that Japan might like this game a lot)/Mario Party could have some effect, and that it'll generally sell more than 80k a week in December. That'd could easily add 100-200k I'd say, although I could be wrong.

What else could be released...

Already announced:
Smash Bros.
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Yoshi's Island 3DS

What could they make:
Metroid (2D?)
Star Fox (unlikely)
F-Zero (unlikely)
Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby remake
Pokemon Z
another Fire Emblem
a new IP?

Third party ideas:
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Bravely Default 2, Dragon Quest XI

Vita needed a GTA really, and a fresh feeling one despite needing to reuse 4's assets. Some must have game the west obsesses over (a far better COD may have done a good trick too) to justify anyone owning the device. Unfortunately ALL of Rockstar was working on V, so theres no satellite that could have even made it as their development circles the insane 1000 member gang. Bioshock never materialising was another nonsense moment too.
They could start with a port of San Andreas. Porting RAGE would take a lot longer.

Sound about right.

If the 3DS were to sell about what its doing right now (80-90k avg/week), it should be@4.1m YTD by the end of Nov this year (Week 48 2013, Nov 26 - Dec 02). It has no big games for the rest of Nov, so I think it's safe to assume it will continue to sell about what it's doing right now.

Now Dec is interesting. Last year apparently it sold ~1.2m on Dec (Weeks 49-52 , 2012 Dec 03 - Dec 30). I expect it to do about that this year too, maybe slightly better.

So overall 5.2-5.3m YTD.

But I do think that the $100 micro-console as a companion to the PS4 is a viable accessory.

It depends on a lot of factors, honestly. For starters, the Vita TV can't play every Vita game, and that's likely going to hurt it. On top of that, that's still $100 they could just use to buy PS4 games, which consumers actually want in the West.

I'd be surprised if there were all that many people buying the Vita TV to play Vita games in the West. The compatible titles are meaningless to Western tastes, and the Vita itself overall is meaningless already. If people buy it, it will be as the PlayStation's Apple TV.

I don't really think a crap will be given that it can't play all Vita games, I don't think people will even care that it plays Vita games at all.

It's basically a PS4 streaming device. It saves someone buying another PS4 for another room in their house, if they're so inclined.

Okay, that actually makes some amount of sense, then, even if there are cheaper streaming devices readily available.

first day

GE2 50-60% both version
Vitatv 30%
CoD 60%
Winning 11 30% ps3 (15% psp???)
Band Bro P 10%

Good stuff for for God Eater. Need a better idea of the shipment for Vita TV, but unless the stock was extremely small selling 30% of a new model shipment day 1 seems good.

Thanks for the info.

I would also like to know how much Vita TVs were shipped.

So that means GE2 sold between 250k - 300k (both versions) on day one. Does anyone know the % of sales that the first day represents when compared to the first week?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Kirby Triple Deluxe for 3DS will hit Japan January 11th - so Nintendo wont slow down their 3DS releases anytime soon it seems.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/balj/index.html

tbh thats sooner than i expected, but on the other hand we didnt even knew about A Link Between Worlds a couple months ago.

Er....I mean it makes sense to release in January as last year Nintendo lost momentum because Jan and Feb were barren, but they are literally releasing straight out of the holidays. What's lined up for Feb?

Edit: I guess there is DQ.

AmanoBuff

depends on the game but 2/3 is a decent average

Thanks. So GE2 could be selling up to 80% - 90% of its initial shipment. That would be a hell of an opening week.

Wow, this is soon. It seems Nintendo wants to keep a constant flow of games, but I wonder if being so close to the holidays won't hurt sales.

You guys think it's easy to reach 100 billion yen operating profit?

If Nintendo has more 3DS games anywhere near completion they will release them this FY too.

And rightfully so if Nintendo wants to keep their handheld domination.

I feel like 2013 may have been the peak of the 3DS.

Hoping for more surprises from them and various 3rd parties for the 3DS

RSE remakes, FFVI or FF Tactics A3D pls
