Call of Duty: Ghosts online multiplayer discussion thread

saw someone streaming on ps4 and there are 3 new game modes I think

ground war
dog tag collect (forgot the exact name but it said you take the dog tags like kill confirmed but you have to put them in a designated spot.
there was another one

anyway I'm disappointed the number of people in matches doesn't go up :/ only ground war has 18 people
was expecting at least 14 for team deathmatch and 18 would be fun for infected.

it'll be worth the $10 upgrade though

Can anyone with a better understanding of network traffic flow help me understand how lag can affect your game?

Specifically, this problem is intermittent, but has now happened enough times where I don't think it's going away; I spawn and fire an automatic weapon - bullets come out in a nice steady stream. I reload, run, find my first target, pull the trigger and single shot, pause, shot, shot, pause, steady stream. Stutters like I'm letting go of the trigger but of course the trigger is being held consistently. Note that usually by the end of the first pause, I'm dead anyway.

For the sake of this question, I have 30mb down/5 mb up service through my ISP and am using a Dark Knight router (set up for Xbox Live). I have experienced this problem both wired and wirelessly.

It's all the more frustrating because I have no idea what is causing this.

lag isn't mostly determined on your upload and download speeds, it's mostly on PING, ping is the time it takes from when you press the shoot button, for it to register on the server so if you and he press a shot and he has lower ping, he's going to win.

A lot of people I know who have a lot of upload and download have bad ping and some ISP's also throttle connections at peak times.

What platform is this on? I am assuming PC as this sounds like a spike in fps, try turning down some settings if this is the case. Also check your NAT type see if it's open or not.

There have also been reports that it is the netcode, which is some thing you wouldn't be able to do anything about.

After playing this game for over a week this game is worse than mw3. I started of well but now that people understand the levels it is just non stop camping and corner hiding.

I literally cannot finish positive anymore. The maps they made simply encourage camping. The maps are too big, there are too many vantage points to camp and too many corners to hide in. The spawns are awful. 5 times a game I get killed in the spawn. Last night I spawned and was flash banged a split second later.

The spawns are so bad that they need to make the spawning player invincible for 3 seconds to discourage people camping the spawn.

IW, or whatever is left of them need to stop making COD games.

PS3 -> PS4 user here

I got everything transferred, downloaded, installed, and proceeded to load up a TDM match (map was Octane)

First thing i noticed was the glorious upgrade in texture quality and resolution. It was funny finally seeing it for myself after reading opinion pieces and reviews these last few weeks - the difference in image quality is painfully (beautifully) obvious.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is, being a PC gamer at heart, to finally see a console game on my 60" displaying an image that doesn't vomit on my retinas with jaggies. So satisfying, cathartic even, to finally see high-resolution / aliasing whatever you want to call it in a console game.

Cant speak highly enough about the image quality, its still call of duty and its still a port, it doesnt look as "ground-up" pretty as shadowfall does but i'm more than happy with the IQ.

Now, the problem:

I noticed a drop in framerate, for approximately one second, two different times during the 5 minute match. Its quick and it feels patchable, because it runs so beautifully at every other moment.

I need some kind of confirmation that a patch is in the works to address this. I would still play this game willingly if it wasnt patched, i would think - but its something that needs addressing.

Awesome. Looking forward to trying things out. I heard they have disabled Wii Remote aim assist again due to some issue, but I also heard that dedicated servers are still planned for Wii U : ).

And in response to your comment in the previous Wii U thread:
Freezie KO said:
I disagree on the slower progression. Nothing stopped you from testing guns thoroughly before. Meanwhile, I've put 9 hours into the game, and I still only have 4 primary guns unlocked. I want to experiment with guns, attachments, equipment, perks, and killstreaks, and I'm being arbitrarily blocked from doing so. The unlocking in this game is unbearable.
I have now changed my mind and agree with you. It's so slow - especially without the 2xExp. I was level 20 a couple nights ago, played around 5 matches for the next 2-3 days and was only level 21. So SLOW!

I think the game doesn't encourage camping as much as it discourages running around the map like a chicken with your head cut off . COD has been about the instant action for so long that I think people are frustrated that you can't easily run a circle on the map and dominate players with predictable spawning. I agree the spawns do need a lot of work but I'm enjoying the maps more and more. Though Stonehaven has completely fallen apart, that map just isn't fun anymore unless your winning. So many guys sniping that you're either doomed to be locked in the castle or risk it out in the open to get popped from a distance after a few seconds..

The main issue I'm having right now though is running into clans/team pub stars who go obnoxiously hard. You can try as you might, but if you're running solo you aren't gonna turn the tables on them, at least for the win. I don't care too much about the try hards as I do the Matchmaking continuously throwing me into the same lobby with them after I quit out, sometimes 2-3 times even before a game has started. It's really annoying that with so many players online I keep getting matched with same dudes. If I quit twice out of the same lobby in the span of a few seconds I wish the game would figure to connect me with another.

Stonehaven is total shit. 60 fps? I don't think so (360). Anyone else have a noticeable frame-rate drop off on this particular map, especially ADS?

You don't like them because they're winning? Should they try to lose? A single player will almost never beat a coherent team. If that's the way the game was designed, I don't know if I'd want to play it.

Yup. I've noticed it on that map on the 360. Only seems to happen when facing the ocean side of the map, and ADS as you mentioned. It's a minor issue to me, and I've noticed similar small examples like that on previous COD mp maps.

Does anyone know if the PS4 and PS3 versions are using the same servers? Like if I'm on PS4 can I play with my PS3 friends?

If this was happening it would have been announced. It has not been announced.

Anyone play Ghosts split screen online? Does the second player have to sign into their PSN account? Normally, you just press X and you're in but the PS4 wants my buddy to sign in. Am I missing something?

Lol no dude. That's not what I meant at all. I'm more irritated that I keep getting matched with 6 man teams even after I quit out (mind you I'm almost always one of the last to quit out on my team). I don't expect to beat them single handedly either. I just don't care to be matched with a well coordinated party when you'll never get a chance with a group of randys.

It also just seems weird that they'd go so ham in pub matches when they could play clan battles/GB or whatever. Seems more like they are just looking to shoot fish in a barrel watching the dickish way they play like capping A and C on Stonehaven but making sure to be reaaaaaal careful not to touch B so the other team has no way to exit the castle + thought out killstreaks for maximum beat down effect.

They aren't doing it to win so much as to set up a meat grinder. That's some fun sucking junk to come across but it's whatever, people play geeky in all games. Just don't keep matching me with them when I jump out for the second time is all I want.

Another observation: Based on the map design, I've noticed a lot of spawn camping/trapping. I've had it happen to me on numerous occations while playing domination. A lot of the time, it's nearly impossible to get out of one side of the map because you can't possibly check all the camp spots and there is usually a height advantage that leaves you exposed. Easily the worst maps in the series. MW3 were gold compared to this crap.

Exactly! I personally don't find the maps or spawns THAT bad when people are playing loosely but they are terrible when you have a good team that can watch all exit points for a small section of the map. I also mostly play Dom so I feel the pains bro <3

I play TDM but I don't think most players are purposely spawn camping in that gametype. The spawns are so horrid that you almost always end up getting shot in the back or shooting someone in the back almost instantly.

Can't speak for everyone, but our clan often plays pubs because we have more than 4 members on and don't want to exclude anyone. Unfortunately that leads to 200-30 beatdowns when we play Dom, but it's not like we leave matches when we're faced against other teams. We just don't want to wait an hour for a match.

Also, in previous CoDs, it was advantageous to only cap 2 points. For StoneHaven, A and C are clearly the best points to defend since you can spawn trap in the castle. In Ghosts, it's better to cap all three points, but I can see why a team would want to trap the opponents at B.

In any case, I just get tired of people calling others try-hards. It's just a meaningless descriptor that's used when someone's losing. But if that person wasn't trying to win as well, they wouldn't be getting so worked up over it...

is there co-op multiplayer online with this game?

Yeah, for several modes. Extinction is kind of whack though as I can't figure out how to bring a party into matchmaking. Its like you gotta get in a room and hope it doesn't fill up before you can invite your friends. Only mode like that though. Its weird.

Yeah. It's like they totally started this game over from scratch but removed a lot of necessary features that people have come to expect. We can finally mute individual players now, but then they removed mute all. Also, for some reason some people (parties?) are grouped together so if you mute one person, it automatically mutes the other people in the party. I ran down the list muting everyone the other day only to hear some 12 year olds yelling. Confused, I re-muted them only to realize that when I muted the first one, it muted both, then when I muted the second one, it un-muted both.

We still haven't gotten the mute single players option on Wii U, even though they just released a patch.

Quickscoping is still annoying as hell, really prominent in Cranked for some reason.

anyone did the upgrade from ps3 to ps4 for $10? how does it work? did you get a code or something? I want to do it for the xbox one version of ghosts,

About how many people are playing the ps4 version online?

I was watching a stream earlier of CODG gameplay on a PS4. The guy said there was about 8,000 people online when he first started up this morning.

So that's pretty decent for a system that just launched.

Awesome. Looking forward to trying things out. I heard they have disabled Wii Remote aim assist again due to some issue, but I also heard that dedicated servers are still planned for Wii U : ).

The Wii Remote aim assist removal is unfortunate. I especially notice it when trying to hit moving targets with the sniper.

Now, this would be fine, except for the fact that half the players are playing with aim assist and the other half aren't. So if I miss a sniper shot, I'm fine having to line up my shot again, but not if the other player can snap right onto me with auto-aim.

Hopefully the fix is coming soon.

Huh? I've muted single players multiple times on the Wii-U before the patch came out. Did they remove it in the patch or do you just not know where to find it?

I imagine it's something like snapping onto targets through walls which got introduced in a patch in BO2 (then fixed) - I remember noticing my aim snap onto someone through a barn door last week in Ghosts and thought it was odd...Oh well

Idk, yo. I think you should fly solo for a bit so you join a lobby with a team utterly massacring your guys so you can see what it's like on the other side of your clan beatdowns and see if you still think "try hard" or whatever, isn't an apt descriptor. It's like bringing a near NBA level team to the local court and playing with random people like it's the Finals.

Of course everyone tries to win man, I personally don't get too hung up on losing. I find it much more annoying to get spawn trapped by camped up teams of players and having difficulty finding another lobby. Just like you said they don't have an obligation to lose or not play douchey (purposely spawn trapping is douchey), I also don't have an obligation to stick it out and play with them. Which brings us back to my main point that MM sucks to get away from those kinds of teams lol.

What is wrong with me or the game?

In other CODs, I have a quick enough reaction time if I see someone walking without their sites up, their dead. For some reason, in this game, I'm getting killed every single time.

Anyone else having a hard time adjusting? I know it's quicker to get killed too, so that's adding to my problem.

I don't know what's wrong, I can't put my finger on it... but I really don't think I'm going to like this game...

The netcode doesn't suck like BO2, so your shots actually register - this means that being out in the open is a bad, bad idea, and getting into heads up coin flip firefights is an equally bad idea for long term health. Gambling that your reaction time can beat their reaction time + internet latency +/- quickdraw/stalker/ready up/focus + their guns kill speed is not a winning tactic.

Take Dead Silence, Amplify, a Silencer, and slow the fuck down. Don't take Marathon. Don't sprint around corners.

You don't need to camp in corners, just pick an area of the map and lock it down. Roam around killing anyone that tries to enter your space. If the spawns flip, rejoin your team on the other side of the map. Limit your exposure to the center of the map or high traffic areas.

Code was in ghosts box, put it in on ps4 lets you buy it for $10. Just entered my free $10 PSN code that came with my ps4 after that and got it for free.

You need to learn the maps and adjust to the game.

Sleight of Hand also actually - you should never reload instantly after a close quarters kill because there is always going to be an enemy investigating the noise/death marker/minimap blip/tracers/team party callout.

A basic magazine can take out two people easily, exmags three. FAD or MSBS more, LMGs, well, their whole team really :p

Down a target, scan for his buddies, then reload.

Ping is great for close quarters. Knowing there are people around can really save you from doing an ill-timed reload.

I prefer Amplify just because Ping is negated by Off the Grid, which a ton of people are running - plus the ping sweep takes a moment to hit its full range, which can get you killed (and Amp at least returns Dead Silence to normal volume level).

I like ping a lot in theory but it hasn't worked out so well for me in practice :(

One other thing about close quarters encounters - you're often at the mercy of gun stats at those distances, because both players are going to be accurate.

Roughly in order it goes shotguns, lucky sniper shots, the msbs, ars with burst fire, the ameli lmg/pistols/marksman rifles/ars with semi auto, smgs, ars.

Within the ars, msbs > arx/fad > 2010/badger/805 > ak/remington

Within the smgs bizon/cbj > vepr > vector/mtar (which themselves are about equivalent to 2010 level ars, so not as good as fast ars or smgs!)

And remember Rapid Fire will bump smgs or lmgs up a notch or two from the rate of fire gain.

That is not a list of 'best weapons', its just a list of damage + fire rate and how fast you're going to die up close to those weapons, so if you're consistently using something like the MTAR, 2010, AK12, or LSAT, you're going to find yourself dying (always) to the MSBS and frequently to the faster killing weapons.

Trick is to avoid getting into those 'who shot first' type fights in the first place. Or forcing them, if you're using a shotgun or rapid fire smg :D

I definitely agree that matchmaking sucks. I do often play by myself and I know what you're talking about. There are many times when I'll go 20-5 (especially on Hunted) and we'll lose because my team all goes 5-15 or 0-12. After the match, I'll leave the game to try to find better teammates and get matched in the same lobby again. It does suck. I agree. I can't blame the other team for being better though. I can only blame my teammates for sucking. Anyway, I do understand where you're coming from. I just think the anger should be redirected to your teammates haha. The other team can't spawn trap you if your team is good enough to break the trap.

Some games are pretty bad lag-wise. A lot of times I'll be watching a spot and then get killed literally as soon as the person pops up on my screen. On the killcam it shows a lot larger delay. The netcode is just weird for this game. A lot of my teammates have also complained about bullets bending around corners (lag) and paper thin walls (which is just how CoD works lol).
Marathon will get you killed. It really encourages bad behavior.
Nah. Marathon is godlike in objective matches because getting to your position first is extremely important. If you're new to the game, I wouldn't recommend running at all after the first 10 seconds of the match. However, if you know how to read a mini-map and have an idea of where the opponents might be, marathon is great.

With SoH being so fast, you can often reload right after a kill as long as noone's in your immediate line of sight. My rule of thumb though is to reload as I'm ducking into cover.

I think Extinction is incredible. Way more entertaining than Zombies, not to mention a lot more reliant on team tactics/help. If that's the mode that tips the scale for you, I say go for it.
