Steel Diver Subwars rating pop up in Australia

Just saw this on twitter. Game's called Steel Diver Subwars. Platform is unknown at the moment, but it's probably that Wii U F2P game (was it even confirmed it'd be on Wii U, though). There's apparently going to be online, according to the rating itself.

Miyamoto pushing too far. WiiU? lol

Tank! Tank! Tank! is F2P too, although it's not directly from Nintendo.

It doesn't mean anything. I think every game there is classified as "multiplatform".

I wonder if it's not just publisher ticking the "Multiplatform" box, just so they don't have to re-file for classification for re-release. May be wrong though, could simply be the ACB being lazy.

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

At minimum $800 a pop you better believe it.

Interesting. Wonder when we'll see the full announcement. Never tried the first, but I'd be interested in trying this out.

During the (Wii U?) Nintendo Direct that should be broadcast between now and mid-january. Or maybe tomorow during a surprise Chotto Nintendo Direct, who knows? :p

Out of all the ips they have or have access too they choose some stupid submarine game for their first venture into f2p.

Why not DQX Nintendo? :(

Maybe because Square-Enix isn't going to sell one of their most valuable IPs anytime soon?

Besides, Iwata already said their F2P would be less know franchises/new IPs, and not popular an already established franchises like Mario or Zelda where people are already accustomed (and quite happy) to pay full price.

Looking forward to this.

me too
steel diver was such a charming game on 3ds, imho, reasonably underrated because of its full price retail business model
it would be really a good fit for a F2P model on Wii U (with touch control on the gamepad and so on)

It was revealed some time ago that a version of Steel Diver would be Nintendo's first free-to-play offering, but we've now got a solid title thanks to The Australian Classification Board.

Steel Diver: Sub Wars has been rated "G", with a cautionary message stating that the online experience could change during play. There's no mention of the format, but we're assuming for now that it will be on the 3DS, just like the original game — although this time it will naturally be download-only.

It shouldn't be a direct port, however — Shigeru Miyamoto has already stated the free-to-play business model will drastically alter the way in which the game plays.

Steel Diver isn't the most obvious choice for this kind of title, but it could prove to be a valuable experiment for the company. Will you be supporting the release, or do you think free-to-play is an area Nintendo should avoid? Let us know with a comment.

Apart from the length, was Steel Diver good? I never saw it cheap enough to pick it up.

I thought it was. It was disappointing on the content front for it's price and that's mainly what it gets hit for. However I think that it is unfairly judged at a times. Some reviews didn't even bother mentioning the commander mode in the game which can keep you busy for a while. I even question if some reviewers even made it that far before scoring the game as it unlocks I believe as you play the main mode. However as an actual game it was pretty good and showed off the 3D well.

So looking forward to this new version when it comes out.

Perhaps the 3DS update with Miiverse and NNIDs will be put to good use, and there'll be cross-platform play between it and Wii U.

I dont like steel diver because its one of those games you HAVE to be perfect.

And it dosent help that the controls were kinda very hard to master (and that took the fun out of it)

Its the same reason i dont like rhythm heaven. You miss one single note, you have to start all over again.

If nintendo manages to make a sub game with fun controls and be a little more forgiven, then they could make something very special.

Otherwise we will be, again, complaining that nintendo could have taken this time and resources to finally take a nintendo spin on the HD shooter genre (i know, i am the only one who wants this)

I say with the 3DS update and Kirby on Jan 11th in Japan, there's no way we don't get a ND sooner rather than later.

Yup, that's exactly what I was thinking. I mean, they could always have an overview trailer around Christmas, but there was a Nintendo Direct last week and nothing about that Kirby game. There's definitely something going on at Nintendo.

No, it is something that's decided on a game to game basis. And even if they had with Dragon Quest X, and Nintendo wanted to make it F2P, Square-Enix would still need to okay the whole thing, so in the end, it's still up to Squeenix whether DQX goes F2P (it won't).

My guess is they'll re-reveal Mario Golf with Miiverse communities like MK7/Wii Fit U, Subwars, 3DS Miiverse info, Fossil Fighters: Infinite Gear footage, and more Kirby/DK/MK8 info & trailers before the end of the year. Maybe more info on the next Wii Sports Club sport? But, I of course, am only guessing.

If done right, this could be a really fun game , if they put some depth on it and microtransactions are only there for cosmetic stuff

hopefully it will be at least ALSO on Wii U. I don't know why but I'd prefer it on the gamepad quick gameplay sessions I often play at home

Yea thats what I am hoping for it to be cross platform online game WiiU/3DS

I expect the next Nintendo Direct to be more WiiU focused, since that last one was more 3DS and the one before that was more WiiU, so early Dec I expect another ND then.
