Media Create Sales: Week 46, 2013 (Nov 11 - Nov 17)

SS did really well for an SCEJ new IP. It's around 200k LTD now excluding the double pack. Sony finally made a good push with regards advertising SS.

For Freedom Wars they have a chance to repeat the success. The developers are proven to be good in this genre, the art style is better for the mass audience than SS. It has been in the famitsu top wanted without having any gameplay trailer yet so that's kind of a success already. We'll see if Sony delivers this weekend.

not sure if you are serious

I had a feeling Smokey would be singing in this thread.

Great numbers for Vita. Cannot wait to see next weeks numbers for the Wii U.

I actually expected a lot more from the fresh Vita family - God Eater 2 did well, but I expected Vita TV + Vita to go above 100k at least, but still it's a nice change from those bizarre sub-15k weeks months ago

Had God Eater good legs? I have to look up the game as well; played the first one on Vita, but it seemed kind of boring to me (even though that weapon transformation animation was pretty dope)

And I want some Mario 3D stories!

Has the holiday shopping season started in Japan?

The 3ds should be selling similar to last year because there are a lot of people who haven't bought MH or Poke no?

Isn't holiday shopping season started in December due to New Year Holiday, not November? Anyone who lived there clarified this. I just know this from Kobo-chan lol

Vita TV, as I expected, doesn't come anywhere near 100k first week sales. That thing is gonna drop like a rock next week.

Nope. Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 both sold like 900k each on PS1. The Donkey Kong Country games sold millions too.
Oh I know, but those were 2nd party flagship IPs; GTA V maybe the highest first third party seller with no ties to a Japanese first party dev.

I don't really get the surprise at Vita TV not doing that well.

It just really doesn't seem like a product with Japan in mind.

I imagine these first week sales are just gadget junkies.

Hey, Vita! Nice numbers!
Next I'd like to see a similar bump on Wii U with Mario and then I want neither system to drop below 10k ever again.

They probably won't be under 10k for the rest of the year.

Hopefully Wii U can at least ride it out until Donkey Kong, and then Mario Kart 8.

Still have no idea why the latter isn't launching this Christmas.

They likely wanted to repeat the Wii strategy.

Wii launch - 2 December 2006
Mario Kart Wii release date - 10 April 2008

Wii U launch - 8 December 2012
Mario Kart 8 release date - Spring 2014

Obviously now it looks like there should have been some place-switching with other games to have Mario Kart 8 out for the holidays, but hindsight is 20/20. The game is just not ready yet, simple as that.

Can't wait for some outside observer to make the sendationalist headline VITA SALES 400% WEEK OVER WEEK, SURGES AHEAD OF 3DS

Vita TV / GE2 numbers are lower than I expected, actually.
They made articles about 3DS outselling Vita 40:1 in some weeks where 3DS had a big release. So why not?

The low number sale of VitaTV didn't surprise me. It is the hardware sales split with the regular Vita that does.

Sony needs to continue pushing Vita TV over the holiday. If not, we could be looking at another PSP Go.

Good week for Vita, although I didn't realize that included the Vita TV. That makes it less impressive imo, but good for Vita and God Eater 2 nonetheless. Is this the highest launch for a Vita game?

The Wii U held fairly well. Mario 3D World & Taiko are out this week (aka next media create) right? I'm surprised the 3DS is dropping like it has, I expected it to hold for longer.

One Piece: Unlimited World Red is out next week 11/21. I assume it comes with the special 3DSes? I'd guess 3DS sales could go up with that. Of course there's Mario 3D World & Taiko as well. Should be an interesting week next week.

Surprisingly good numbers for God Eater (150k would have been good imo).
Gave the Vita a nice boost, together with the Vita TV beating the 3DS. That is quite an accomplishment. Even if this lasts only for one week. Will be interesting to see what it will sell over christmas.

The Wii U still dropping but the drops are not huge, perhaps it can stabilize above 10k, which would be a good first step on the ladder to respectability. I expect the Wii U to sell better than the Vita over Christmas. The real test will come when the PS4 releases though.

... or maybe the game simply wasn't ready in time for a 2013 release?

Can anyone explain why the PSP is still mentioned in the "breakdown" section at the bottom? The PSP Go hasn't been selling for I don't know how long, time to let it go and kick it off that section.

?

That's exactly why I said "The game is just not ready yet, simple as that." They could have made it so it would release earlier, but they chose to prioritize the development of other games. Let's say we could have seen MK8 this holiday but 3D World would have had to release later. They chose one strategy over others. Whether it was the wrong one is something that can only be judged in hindsight, thus "hindsight is 20/20."

Indeed. A 99/149 system has a ton of potential. The extra install base would do wonders to Vita game sales as well.

Nice nice :D Hopefully sony advertises both the vita and vitatv in December for the holidays as well

GE2 is off to a great start ..good. Heard good things about it from some friends who got the chance to play it

Hopefully wiiu will get nice bump next week too with Mario

GE2 is solid. Hopefully it has legs, hearing some good things about the game.

Vita Tv sales and Vita bump are disappointing. 3DS sales are disappointing as well.

relatively good sales for Vita. Expecting more would have been a tad incoherent

If one was not to look at the sales, keeping in mind that new hardware as well as the biggest Vita release of the year just came out, and read the posts in this thread you would think the hardware sold 300k+

Any reason to expect 300k+ if one doesnt know what the sales usually lies on though? "Biggest title" also doesnt necessarily means much on its own. It depends on what you compare it to. Its the biggest Vita title this year indeed, but its not that big if its being compared to games that sells millions of copies.

I just got Taiko and its the first time i found the miiverse application on a game interesting since Mario U, with the exception that it don't appear only when you loses. The game also looks much better than the last versions.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Ah yes. The metric of "good sales" is now the Vita selling 100k more than the 3DS did on the release of Pokemon and 2k more than the 3DS did on the release of Monster Hunter.

That is our 'totally based in reality' expectation of God Eater and Vita TV, you see. Yep.

If Vita TV bomb in Japan, I'm not sure anymore if we will see it in the west. With 2 giant systems battling in home console market, I don't know if there's space for mini console like Vita TV.

Wait this isn't confirmed for the west? Would have definitely made the Vita much more attractive for me, although it's again a little waning considering that it apparently doesn't even play all games.

PS4 streaming is a feature made for the west. If they don't bring it to the west, I would be surprised.

I'm still a bit ignorant about the Vita TV, but it seems like a product that'd be better released after the PS4 is available. Isn't one of the selling points its ability to remote play PS4 games to a separate TV?

I love my Vita and PS4, but I wouldn't get a Vita TV or have any interest whatsoever if it weren't for the PS4.

so... 50k+ for Wii U next week? 30k+ thereafter until 2014?

last I heard the hype hasn't been great for 3D World in Japan. Has that changed at all?

Code:
[B]FAMITSU HARDWARE SALES, WEEK 46, 2013 (November 11th - November 17th):[/B]

PSV - 90,996
3DS - 60,978
[B]WIU - 14,006[/B]
PS3 - 11,715
PSP - 3,925
WII - 736
360 - 365

Wii U retained its numbers better than I expected. I guess that marketing boost is paying off to some degree.

Of course, the real test is next week's sales, with Taiko no Tatsujin and Super Mario 3D World to woo customers.
