Unlimited Free access to Xbox Fitness? Apparently not exactly true...

So it appears to be quite the deal given the cost of P90X and Insanity so I was quite excited as I was already looking into those. In fact I would say this was my deciding factor in not cancelling my Xbox One which should arrive at my house later today.

But after looking at multiple review sites you have to pay for some of the good videos. For example $26AUD ($24USD) for two Jillian Michaels videos:

Which is what I feel Microsoft led me to believe. What's worse is after you pay money to unlock certain videos, you dont own them either, because they are still behind the Live Gold Paywall.

So for me, I feel this is yet another 180 from Microsoft and a betrayal of trust. Can anyone who has an Xbox One provide more details I can add to the op? How much is free, not free?

The videos are legit workout videos. The thing I am now noticing is that the free ones are basically one or two videos from a workout set. They provide a button to buy the DVDs to these sets, lol. There is a decent mix of workout types so you could hobble together something resembling a plan. There really isn't too many videos on here and it is easy to see why they made this thing fee with Gold, there isn't enough content to warrant a sub.

From PorkFryRice:
10 minute and 20 minute solutions are Free with Gold. They range from Belly Fat Burner to Cardio Kickboxing. Too many to list.

Mossa, P90X, Insanity all have Free with Gold but i think those are limited to a certain workouts. Right now i see Mossa Fight Workout 1 and Mossa Core Workout 1 are Free with Gold for example.

There are some like Tracy Anderson and Jillian Michaels with prices and "Free Workout" underneath them.

I thought this was known. In fact I was under the impression it was free with Gold until next Nov, not Jan 2015.

Damn.. I find it kind of amusing everyone posting stuff like.. Wait Xbox music also cost money?? Plus live?? Fitness has more pay options??

Did these people not use a 360 last gen?

Oh is this about the free for 2014 only? That's been known for a while. I thought this was about the content being weak

This makes sense and is in line with my expectations of the service. It would be a great feature if everything was behind 1 paywall, these workout programs cost a good deal of money, there would be too much work to get every course free under 1 program. They are competing with each other after all.

As it stands it sits nicely in line with the worst of Xbox Live. It will be locked behind 2 pay walls with extra content available, none of which you can ever own.

All of the handling around the Xbox Fitness app seems downright insane when you compare it to the Health and Fitness app that the Windows 8.1 update came with. Tons (over a hundred?) of different workout videos, dietary plans w/ recipes, and miscellaneous medical info.

For free (at least, as far as they've discussed...). I don't think there are even any ads in it.

Edit: Ok now I'm confused - my initial thought was that we get ALL of Xbox Fitness for free for a full year. I only skimmed the OP (my bad) and assumed that even in the first "free" year, we would still have to pay for certain videos. Is this not the case then? If it's all free for a year then I'm back to being ok with this because that's how I assumed it worked...

I'm feeling less bad about ordering the PS4 first now (I just saved a retarded amount of money that it was too hard to pass up)

Out of either console, this was my most sought after "game".

I was still debating selling my PS4 when it arrives to get the XB1 but now I will just wait until march and look at people's reviews


...also I fell off my roof like a dumbass and sprained foot pretty badly so won't be excising fo fa while anyways :p

I've been in the xbox fitness threads, we all pretty much knew it was free until jan 2015, now the amount of workouts seem low, but the paid wall we all knew if you followed xbox fitness threads.

That's a shame. I don't know if many people will be interested at those prices. Especially when it was advertised as being free with gold for a year.

Read more. Even now much of it isnt free, if I'm understanding correctly.

Honestly, the biggest problem with Xbox Fitness is that being a separate subscription service where you cannot access the content anywhere else, it shouldn't be behind a Gold paywall.

The problem here is calling it "unlimited access", no matter what other explanation they use. We had a similar law suit here in germany for internet "flatrates", where Deutsche Telekom was forbidden to use the word "flatrate" for something that would not be considered a flatrate by the general public.

Its just misleading and annoying to deal with.

Yes, as I understand the reviews and comments from Xbox One owners, even for the first year only some of it is free. And some of the good stuff is quite expensive in 2014. Which doesn't match my expectation when they said UNLIMITED access for free the first year. Again, I won't be able to try this out for myself until I get mine tonight. I am only reporting what others have said.

I just read one of the links, destructoid is saying there are paid content too, can someone confirmed, because I thought everything was free(with gold) until 2015.

So, if true this pretty much kills any and all hype I had for this feature... Paying a subscription to only get a small sample of the workout videos you need to actually put together a fitness plan? Not cool.

The "fitness pass" gives you access to everything though right? or is there still pay stuff on top of that I'm confused.
