i love the show but haven't been a huge fan of this season at all with the exception of van alden's story/arc.

did anyone notice in the shootout at the end of e11 that the bald checkers dude was missing? does he have something to do with 'daughter' disappearing perhaps? the chubbier dude and the one that always wears the hat was out there with chucky, but the other wasn't.

I always felt more pity for Gillian than anything else (more after Jimmy died than before), but I was not surprised to see her get caught finally. Boardwalk Empire doesn't really let shit go.

Except for Eli randomly rage-killing an alderman that no one ever seemed to miss haha

You mean duckroll's post and my post from last week? If that's the case, sorry dude. :(

Just finished this week's episode. Enjoyed it immensely. It was happy to move at a leisurely pace and let us watch the characters interact with each other.

I'm a little concerned now that Eli's wife (can't recall her name all of a sudden) is the one who's going to get clipped, inadvertently. They spent so long on her this week -- more time than she's ever gotten before. Or they could just be setting us up to feel very sad when she's lamenting her dead Eli next week. Not sure yet.

I was very happy with the resolution of Gillian's storyline. I mean, it's profoundly tragic, but I enjoyed the long thread of it.

Also, boy did Harrow have a different look about him this week. He looked positively domesticated.

Going to read reviews now.

Yeah. I mean kudos to you but when the reveal happened I thought back to your post and felt deflated. =(

Same here. As soon as the guy got shot, I remembered that post and instantly put two and two together. What could have been a shocking reveal was not so shocking after all. THANKS A LOT JVM

Aaand this episode is another example why Boardwalk Empire doesn't belong in any 'best X' conversations.

Pretty much static with little contribution.

I don't get Gillian's arc this season and why it should have graced our TV. Conceptually, i don't know why they keep throwing her from the frying pan into the fire. Give her a break. We knew it's going to end badly with how happy she was and knowing Roy has secret agenda. The only good thing about was Gillan's two confessions about her youth and in this ep about how you can live with yourself.
The worst part is how out of a sudden she gives up the fight on Bobby and seems very relieved about not taking any part in her grandchild's life. Complete 180 with no attempted reasoning as far as i recall.

Why do we needed so much time spent on White staying put and doing nothing. There was little insight to glean from Oscar. I'm perfectly fine with Chalky and Daughter going off somewhere. I hope she hasn't betrayed him but what other reason is there for her disappearing right before she gets her wish?

I swear, if after the next ep we learn that Nucky did keep his suspicions about Eli, then i don't what to say. Why does super important information keep falling into his lap? Why is luck still the permanent factor Nucky is alive and in business?

I'm not sure anyone will ever consider Boardwalk Empire to be in the best ever catergory. Not every show has to be though, Boardwalk is certainly watchable with excellent presentation, sometimes that's all that is needed.

I literally haven't a clue why you still watch it.

I guess I like the set/costume design and how it pictures life in the 20s/30s. Fascinating stuff to me. I'm amazed how much work goes into the outfits that they wear. I really liked Gillian's outfit/hat that she wore when she saw her grandson.

Does anyone think that Eli might not be turning Nucky in but will be the hero when he takes out some of the competition? Somehow, I can't imagine that Eli is going to get killed or end up in jail. Seems too obvious to happen.

Maybe...I'm thinking now that his son wants in on the business he's going to try to trap Knox somehow. The weird thing is, he could probably put a cap in Knox's head anytime he wants but he's letting himself get strung along.

Nucky won't be caught because he's selling his business in Florida.

Hah...I forgot about that murder in Eli's shed.

Wow, it's like they totally nixed the direction that plot could've gone.

I agree that the reasons for taking down Gillian were stupid, but no one ever gets arrested for murder on this show, so that's something right?

I will miss her though. She had a real period sensibility that eludes most of the cast.

Isn't that what Pinkerton's did? Elaborate stings in the old days? All I know is I used to love old stories about the Pinkerton's till I read about the union busting, Deadwood and now this show.

This is a bit of a stretch, but if you listen to podcasts you might try these. They feature The Ghost of Richard Harrow communicating with the living.

In this he describes how he ended up in Heaven and the various Heavens that exist

This show has never been about events in each episode. From the start it was simply deals that Nucky would make for minor gains and the nothing is often the best part. Had Nucky not gone on the path to become the next Gaston Means, a less violent, less event involved character I'm not sure I would still be watching.

I'm getting that feeling too. The title is not inspiring much hope, but it could of course be meant another way.

I don't want this to end like how Season 2 did. :(

Season 2 was definitely Jimmy's season and this has been Chalky's in a similar way, so it wouldn't surprise me. They killed of Gyp last year and it would be more surprising to have Narcisse survive and have show not fall into villain of the season mode, hopefully the show doesn't kill them both as they are two of the best characters :(

Season finale time! I hope Gillian and Sally make it. I also hope Chalky and Narcisse make it. Also, Eli and Willy.

They're all going to die aren't they :(

I think this show and GoT have made me reach more of an inner peace about whether a character on a show lives or dies. Would it be sad if Chalky were to go? Yes, it would be very sad, but on the other hand it opens up room for someone (e.g. Narcisse) to move forward and take a larger role. I regret it when friends I have had for years move away, for example, but I meet new people and form new friendships and learn new things I might never have learned otherwise.

Also, if you want a good reason for Narcisse to remain and Chalky to go -- Chalky is married to the alcohol business and Narcisse represents the next generation of business, heroin.

On the other hand, Narcisse takes the story away from its Atlantic City roots, so perhaps too much centered in New York if they leave him. Hard to say.

Also, have I said before that I think that Chalky's daughter will be a major character next season? I think getting jilted will set up a parallel story between her and Willy, as they could both be fatherless children "in the business" after tonight. It would be interesting to see her working under Narcisse's tutelage, and Willy under Nucky's wing. That would go very well with the title of the final episode.

I'm putting my money on Gillian and Eli and
Chalky
taking a fall tonight. Also, I have a feeling that (spoiler based on one of the sneak peeks)
Richard's massacre at the end of last season could be brought up in court this episode, as they show him on the stand in Gillian's trial
.

Edit: Could be that Richard's father-in-law dies, although that's a stretch for the title of an episode. He's too peripheral to the entire story.

That's true. Jimmy's death proved that no character is too sacred on this show. Besides Nucky of course. I could easily see the show continuing on without a skip sans Gillian, Chalky, Eli, etc. though. I just would rather they didn't. ;)

That's an interesting theory, and one I wouldn't mind coming to fruition, especially if Gillian dies tonight. We need more female characters on the show and Chalky's daughter's scene with Narcisse last week suggested that they may have more in store for her character than previously thought.

RIght, that's what initially pushed me into the idea. I mean, Willy working for Nucky is simple but then having Maybelle also working for Narcisse at the same time would be really great. Nucky is far more interesting with a foil like Jimmy or Eli.

Everyone is already dead!

Very excited for the episode tonight.

Always found Eli to be an more interesting character than Nucky personally.

I'm scared for Richard the most. There was a quick scene in the episode preview that got me really worried.

Oh man, I'm so anxious. I can't take it.

After seeing that the current thread was done by Cornballer (which according to my records means 100% chance of being a good show) and saw Michael K. Williams in the banner, I decided to catch up with this entire show over the past few weeks. It's quite an entertaining drama.

I'm not sure anyone will ever consider Boardwalk Empire to be in the best ever category. Not every show has to be though, Boardwalk is certainly watchable with excellent presentation, sometimes that's all that is needed.

This, rather accurately, sums my overall thoughts on the show.

Please don't kill Chalky, Please don't kill Chalky, Please don't kill Chalky, Please don't kill Chalky, Please don't kill Chalky, Please don't kill Chalky, Please don't kill Chalky, Please don't kill Chalky

This is what I've been pleading the entire season. My heart was barely able to make the last few scenes with him thus far (barring the Daughter conversations as I'm not too wild about the character's contributions to the season). That goes double for the last episode.

I was extremely certain of the fate of death at first, but I'm not positive anymore. The blatant (but still got me good) build-up of the ambush on Chalky was the perfect opportunity to get him while he was vulnerable, uncertain and outnumbered. Now that the previous episode has transpired with him knowing his cover's blown, I'm hard pressed to find a situation where he'll slowly and deliberately have his back up the wall again. They could always make it sudden, of course, but history serves that Boardwalk Empire can be one that takes its time with the dramatic regarding more-or-less major characters.

On a side note for this past episode, I'm very glad Gillian got what was coming to her...for real this time!

I just watched the last episode pretty high, it was some real intense drama and i almost lost my shit at Roy Philips. I genuinely didn't see that coming at all, thank god i can't predict these sort of shows.

Roy Philips is also a Ghoul from Fallout 3 isn't he, outside Tenpenny Tower?
