The 3D mario games have never been system sellers (except 64 maybe) I don't know why people thought it would be any different this time.

Wow...the whole chart just looks bad.

But the real winner in the BOMBA fest is Nintendo. Can't believe how bad Mario did. Only a 5K boost in hardware sales?

Still confident in that 9 million sales forecast, Iwata? Yikes.

The race to 3 million between Pokemon and Monster Hunter 4 finally ends. And oh hey! Another Taiko Drum game in the top 20! (damn it region lock)

What a great week for Nintendo home consoles, Sony portables, the Final Fantasy franchise, the Mario franchise and the Taiko franchise. Japan is truly in for a treat, they don't know what to ignore first.

Well Nintendo if there was anytime to push the panic button, it's right now. They better hope 3D World has legs otherwise Wii U is screwed in Japan for the rest of the year and probably for the rest of it's lifespan over there once PS4 launches. Also pretty disappointing Vita drop but at least it seems to be holding steady at over 20k. Can't remember the last time it was below that.

Lots of bombs dropping this week. Mario is on the low side and the lowest original Mario 3D debut by quite a bit. The WiiU bump is terrible and they will need miracles now to turn this system around.

Lightning debuts as expected and very poor as well. But about as SE should have hoped really considering how badly they've treated the franchise this gen.

As another poster brought up in last weeks thread. Mario's opening was less than half of Call of Duty Ghost in Japan. Let that sink in.

Massive drop for GE2, not so bad for PSVita, very dire for Wii U.
I don't know what to say anymore about Wii U condition :(

Can some post Bravely Default sales numbers? I want to see how it did compared to LR. Anyway PS4 in Japan will be fascinating to see if it fails the console gaming in Japan may truly go full niche.

As said in the other thread, I don't know if we can consider One Piece a bomba. Especially not in the same vein as Mario and Taiko.

I dunno, at least Mario should have some legs. I dunno about One Piece...its opening is only around the same as the Unlimited Cruise SP ports and there was a real push for it. Shipment seems huge so I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the bomba bins soon if it doesn't develop legs.

Ha. Aha. Ha.

Just to follow up on the stupid questions, how come the Japan numbers are so frequently (and accuratley I guess) reported, whil NA and rest of the world numbers are not (or are they?).

I'll shut up after this...

The Japanese have companies that report the figures to the public. North America is a bastion of evil capitalism that charges for everything and sends grandmas to death panels. (NPD does monthly numbers and doesn't release them to the public)

"Japan, you are officially under arrest for having terrible gaming tastes. You have the right to remain silent when playing. Anything you say or play may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before playing with the police and to have an attorney present during gameplay session now or in the future. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any playing, if you wish. If you decide to play any game now, without an attorney present, you will still have the right to stop playing at any time until you talk to an attorney. Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?"

I'd argue that some of middle-aged (20-40 yrs old) gamers' taste in Japan is being Westernized very quickly. I'm sure more and more people are preferring GTA over Mario.

Well, I guess that's that for Wii U hardware sales.

3D World might have some legs going into the holiday season. People sick of waifu Lightning. Everything else... eh.

Wow Mario and Wii u did horribly but gaf has learned me that everything is fine. PS4 will usher in a new era for Japan surpassing the ps tripple.
